TESTAMENT: New Audio Interview With ALEX SKOLNICK - Apr. 22, 2010
Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal of Metal Assault conducted an interview with guitarist Alex Skolnick of San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans TESTAMENT earlier today (Thursday, April 22). The chat is now available for streaming in two parts below.

TESTAMENT bassist Greg Christian will be interviewed on DJ Steel's "The Metal Assassin" show on Friday, April 23 at 11:00 p.m. EST.

Canadian guitarist Glen Drover (ex-MEGADETH, KING DIAMOND, EIDOLON) filled in for Alex Skolnick on TESTAMENT's recent tour with MEGADETH and EXODUS, which kicked off on March 1 in Spokane, Washington ran through the end of the month.

TESTAMENT performed its first-ever album, "The Legacy", in its entirety during the month-long trek that found these thrash titans crisscrossing the nation on the "Rust in Peace" 20th anniversary tour. In this monstrously massive celebration of metal, TESTAMENT felt it was time to throw down the gauntlet and bring people back to the roots of their visceral and vice-tight music, re-invoking songs which helped lay the foundation for a thrash generation. "We wanted to give the fans something different," said Chuck Billy. "We wanted to play these songs which have not been played since we've been touring [the latest TESTAMENT album] 'The Formation Of Damnation'."

TESTAMENT's highly acclaimed 2008 release, "The Formation Of Damnation", was reissued on February 23 in a deluxe tour edition. The two-disc edition includes the band's comeback album plus bonus footage of classic tracks and more.

Technically wise Skolnick is probably better, both have a lot off feeling and style. Hammett is a bit more emotive or at least used to be. There is no doubt in my mind that old Metallica is superior to old Testament though and Kirk was a huge part of that. Also testament and Skolnick were almost certainly influenced by Metallica and Kirk so give tallica credit for defining what thrash metal is. I would go with Kirk but close contest, testament and Skolnick are awesome.

Alex Skolnick still ranks up there with the best metal & rock guitarists, past and present - vintage players like Gary Moore, Brian May or Randy Rhoads, as well as younger ones like Ron Jarzombek, Devin Townsend or Jeff Loomis.

Kirk Hammett was great during the 80ies, but nowadays - not so much. Skolnick vs Hammett? The Formation Of Damnation vs Death Magnetic?

There is no contest.

Agreed, if judging purely by current form, Skolnick is better.
