RUSH Receives Star On 'Hollywood Walk Of Fame'; Video Available
- June 26, 2010
|
|
Canadian rock legends RUSH received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (June 25) in front of the Musicians Institute on Hollywood Boulevard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, on hand to induct the musicians were SMASHING PUMPKINS singer Billy Corgan and Donna Halper, a former music director at Cleveland's WMMS-FM who was among the first to champion the enduring band's 1974 self-titled debut album. " RUSH always stayed true to themselves and true to their music, and never lost their integrity," Halper said to cheers from the crowd that ranged from toddlers in RUSH T-shirts and baby boomers in tattered vintage "2112" tour jerseys. Frontman-bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson were in attendance to claim the 2,412th star on the Walk of Fame. Noticeably absent was drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, who was riding a motorcycle to the band's first tour date in Albuquerque on Tuesday. Read more from The Hollywood Reporter. Video footage from the ceremony can be viewed below.

I'm quite sure that Rush earned this star as a result of the music they have made post '81.

Yeah, I was there. I have the pictures to prove it. It truly was an experience I'll never forget. Legions of Rush fans, old and young. The anticipation thick in the air. Lifeson was hiliarious. Halper's speech was poignant. Corgan tried his best not to be a buffoon and succceed. Lee was humble as always. Neil wasn't there but everyone expected that. As we know he do this sort of thing. He knows how grateful his fans are. The star is in a cool place right in front of the Musician's Institute next to Motley Crue and Journey and near a bar! All in all is was very cool hanging with fellow "Rushians" comparing stories and looking forward to the tour. A great day for a Rush fan. Some "institutes" have it together in recognizing The Greates Band in the Land and others have not. All Rush fans agree, those "institutes" are irrelevant. We know and we don't need THEM to tell us what we already know. To Rush, as always, Thank You.

... but anyone who's willing to cough up twenty-five grand can get a star on the Walk of Fame (generally groups of fans raise the money and put in the application). That being said, Rush is awesome even if the only place they're playing close to where I live is the worst venue ever--Nissan Pavilion/Jiffy Lube Amphitheater/whatever the hell they're calling it outside DC. ONE one-lane road leading to a venue that holds about twenty-five thousand people. The first time I went was to see Rush on their last tour and after spending about four hours total stuck in a three-mile traffic jam I swore I'd never go there again.

I was 6 years old when I first experienced Caress of Steel. I'm 39 now and I never get tired of listening to Rush. They deserve nothing but the best. They treat their fans with the utmost respect.

@ ISTHATUGIL? - That's what I mean, it's post '81 Rush music that earned them that there star! Everyone knows that pre-'81 Rush music was junk and the stuff they play now is much better.

Pre-81, junk? Hardly. Permanent Waves, 2112, and A Farewell to Kings are extraordinary albums. Rush could have earned that star on those albums alone, despite producing really great music from then all of the way to the present day.

I was there. It was magical. I dont usually do fan boy stuff when bands come around, but this was a unique experiences with on of the greatest bands on the planet. Listening to Rush for the past 20 or so years, and then being 10 feet from Alex and Geddy was pretty cool.

From Day 1 Rush has made great music. Rush, Fly By Night, Carees of Steel, 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permantent Waves, all these albums are awesome and have some of their best musicianship ever on them. Of course everything changed for them after the release of Moving Pictures. Their most commercially successful album, and it was because of all the hard work from those so called crap albums that were made before. To make a comment that Rush earned this star because of the music they made after 81 is just plain ignorant. Rush got this because of their entire career. They have consistantly made great music throughout and I anticipate that this will continue with their next release. They should also be inducted into the SO CALLED ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, but those idiots do not know how the appreciate the truly remarkable career and achievements of RUSH. Fans of Rush know this is highly unlikely, but we remain strong in our believe that one day the RNRHOF will wake up and recognize true greatness. If this ever happens I'll be the first 1 there. until then I'll just sit back and enjoy all RUSH
RUSH RULES

I became a Rush fanatic at 16 with the release of Chronicles and I remember thinking at the time, 'damn, these guys have been around so long already and here I am just getting into their music. They'll probably break up soon.'
Absolutely love this band. Caravan and BU2B are two very kickin' tunes. Can't wait for Clockwork Angels and the arrival of my copy of Beyond the Lighted Stage through Amazon.

It's unfortunate that they didn't receive this exactly 300 stars ago.
Tonight on VH1: the television premier of Beyond the Lighted Stage!
Tuesday the DVD is released, with 90 minutes of bonus footage.

No band has worked harder than Rush, they are obscenely talented and amazing songwriters, they are the best ever (outside of Led Zeppelin...). No band is better live or in the studio. These guys are just regular dudes with MASSIVE amounts of musical gifts, and they never toot their own horn or brag like other bands.

What a fitting tribute to a band that is more than Canada and U.S. is taking great strides to recognize bands and their importance that are from and because they're from other nations.
Lucky enough they have a 35+ year running with the same line-up. Enduring indeed, and endearing that these 3 men from our time are so close to our hearts and souls that they will never die!
Live Forever rUSh!!!!!
the greatest band in the land!
