HEAVEN & HELL's DIO Tribute At U.K.'s HIGH VOLTAGE Festival: More Video Footage Posted Online - July 29, 2010
Surviving HEAVEN & HELL members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice played a very special tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio, this past Saturday (July 24) at the High Voltage festival at Victoria Park in London, England. The musicians were joined by legendary former DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH man Glenn Hughes and Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who sings for power metallers MASTERPLAN and has just released his own tribute to Ronnie.

The setlist was as follows (vocalist for each track listed in parenthesis):

01. The Mob Rules (Jorn Lande)
02. I (Jorn Lande)
03. Country Girl (Glenn Hughes)
04. Children Of The Sea (Glenn Hughes)
05. Turn Up The Night (Jorn Lande)
06. Voodoo (Jorn Lande)
07. Bible Black (Glenn Hughes)
08. Falling Off The Edge Of The World (Glenn Hughes)
09. Die Young (Jorn Lande)
10. Heaven And Hell (Jorn Lande, Glenn Hughes)
11. Neon Knights (Jorn Lande, Glenn Hughes, Philip Anselmo)

Check out a professional photo gallery from Express & Star.

Newly posted fan-filmed video footage can be viewed below. Additional clips are available here and here.

Proceeds from this performance will go to the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund.

Immediately following the High Voltage concert, Hughes revealed exclusively to Express & Star that there will be a Dio tribute album, "with some megastars," to raise funds for to the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund, as well as a major show in Los Angeles in March 2011.

Jorn can definitely sing these songs. Look, no one can replace RJD or his voice, but Iommi, Butler, and Appiece need to keep the momentum going. If these guys stop, it's all over!

...he's a great singer, but not for these songs! he has a different dynamic to his voice and i appreciate the fact that he's paying tribute to rjd but he doesn't fit dio era sabbath.

i love the album and demos he did with tommy ionni but he should stick to his solo/other projects.

just one opinion.

Glenn looks retarded. He really does not fit these songs at all. I have heard the whole show, and the songs that Glenn does the vocal duties for sound the worst out of the whole show.

He can't keep a steady tone throughout the songs to stay consistent like they should be. Jorn did tons better than Glenn.

Plus, Glenn looks like the average brain-dead teenage male nowadays. Hate that look.

....I think if the remaining members want to stay together they should call the band something else, not H&H or Sabbath. We know Ozzy won't be doing anything with them anytime soon, other than maybe a few shows. Also, they should get a singer that doesn't sound like Ozzy or RJD; perhaps an unknown. Either that or retire, but don't take a chance on tarnishing the legacy of either band. Just an opinion.

This just goes to show that Ronnie was WITHOUT PEER in the world of heavy metal.

Jorn and Glenn are amazing, but they simply cannot do what Ronnie did for over 40 years. Ronnie was a once-in-a-lifetime talent that we probably won't see again in the world of metal.

I'm sure that Jorn and Glenn were well aware of their limitations as well, and just enjoyed being there. Critiquing this show is so beside the point...it was simply a celebration of Ronnie James Dio, and they pulled it off admirably.

Everybody has made some great points. I am a huge Glenn Hughes fan, but he isn't of the same style as RJD. The fact is that Glenn Hughes and RJD were tight as hell. Glenn wasn't auditioning to get a job with Tony, he was paying TRIBUTE to his FRIEND. That's it. He did a helluva good job paying tribute, but that's all. He ain't trying to take Ronnie's job.

And consider how difficult it was to do the show...Glenn has huge balls becuz he dealt with the pressure and he knew there would be haters.

Glenn probably wouldn't take the Sabbath job even if it was offered to him. He is close as fuck with Ozzy too... he doesn't want to piss Ozz off. And Geez probably wouldn't carry on with Glenn unless it was called something else besides Sabbath or H n H.

I would like to see Bill Ward finish his solo stuff. Tony and Glenn continue making awesome music. Jorn, Geez and Tony and Vinnie continue with a band, and one more Ozzy Sabbath album.

Oh, and I would like to see Tony Martin and Ian Gillan collaborate with Iommi one more time too..

I love Glenn Hughes but he has been doing funk for so long I don't even know if he can sing a straight head rock song anymore. Jorn fits this style of music at this point in their careers much better. Sidenote=I had the pleasure of catching a younger Jorn singing with Yngwie (and that was VERY short lived)just before that pairing went up in flames on the road opening for Dio on the Magica tour in a small theater in Denver

Jorn sings great on the HnH but if he can't write songs then he's just another Ripper. Hughes is a great vocalist but he's aged and possibly best in the studio no adays. Now I don't fancy that Last Show Ever thing there cause I think this material will always be played and requested so its up to them if they are going to go through the motions of denial or cut through the chase and admit to move on. I say lets get Jorn enrolled in music theory school 101 cause I've heard his original stuff and well hes not as good as Ripper and Ripper is terrible. Truth shall set me free.

Iommi sir, you rule!

about Glenn not being able to sing the notes properly?

he's doing fine. does he have Dio's timbre? no, of course not. but hardly any singer can mimic another.

he's on key and has the power.

this Jorn guy doesn't sit as well with me, but he aint' bad.

and, for what it's worth, Glenn pissed me off to no end with his call-out to the designer of his suit in one of his Dio tribute videos: that was the lowest-class move i've seen from a season metal vet in years.

but Glenn can sing these songs technically. and he sounds decent.

people make up shit based on what, i don't know. he doesn't sound off-key, he doesn't sound "funky," he just sounds like Glenn singing Dio Sabbath.

good night.

p.s. he does look like Scott Weiland's dad, like he's trying too hard to be current (much like some 55-year-old woman wearing a mini skirt) but that doesn't diminish his vocals here.

i see nothing wrong with Hughes look or the looks of any of the others. and what has that to do about the performance, im sorry i cant hear it hear but im not sure he would fit singing Dio songs, but im pretty sure Dio couldnt have sung much of Hughes material.
Hughes is one of the best singers ever, with a great range. Dio was a great singer but still he didnt have that great of a range.

but great of them playing tribute to Dio, hope there will be a few special concerts somewhere in tribute to him.

I've got a bootleg CD of a show Hughes did with Sabbath the first time round and he struggled so much after the third song it was painful. Ray Gillen was drafted in 2 nights after as a result (God bless him). He is powerfully ot of his deapth here as Ripper would be. RJD's tones allow only a tiny number of suitors to do the MATERIAL justice, not REPRICATE his voice, Jorn is one, Tony Martin is another or maybe someone different like Michael Kiske or the guy from Silent Force or Dream Evil. Would Ian Gillan do a tour? Anything to keep the Sabbath ship afloat, we do however have to let go of Ronnie, these songs show how irreplaceable he is and any form of attempts at continuity with H&H as it was would be ill advised. New band new album but please - NO OZZY!!!

When I heard that this one-off show was happening, all I could think about was how much I wished I could have been there to see it firsthand. The first thing that was apparent, was the amount of emotion in the faces of Tony, Geezer and Vinnie onstage. When I listened to Wendy Dio's speech, chills ran down my spine and a tear ran down my face. And as far as Jorn Lande goes...I think he did a phenomenal job paying tribute to the man who is obviously one of his major milestone singing influences. One can only hope that all of the internet trolls who were talking shit about his DIO tribute album, will be forever silenced. Obviously if he is performing onstage with Heaven and Hell, then he's got Wendy's blessing. Glen Hughes, a vocal phenomenon in his own right...also kicked major ass in my opinion. No of course, he doesn't sound like Ronnie James Dio. But he brought his own powerhouse of a voice onstage and delivered a fitting tribute to his friend and peer. And I hope that when the Los Angeles show takes place..Heaven And Hell can extend invitations to other supreme vocalists in the metal world to pay tribute to Ronnie. Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Tony Martin, Mike Tirelli...there are many that would be worthy. "Now it's time for The One to go, to the Temple Of The King" \m/ Ronnie James Dio \m/ Never Replaced, Never Forgotten

@born1972: are you sure that's fair? It's not like Jorn suddenly developed an interest in Dio because it looked like Tony & Geezer might need a singer. If you look back, it's clear he's been a huge fan all along.

Glen was paying tribute to a good friend. Jorn was paying tribute to a childhood hero. The other three were paying tribute to a good friend and bandmate.

I really don't think there's any call to look at it more cynically than that.
