THEATRE OF TRAGEDY Split With Singer, Vow To Carry On - Aug. 26, 2003
Norway's THEATRE OF TRAGEDY have parted ways with longtime frontwoman Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull.

"Having worked together for almost ten years, we have now reached a point where we find ourselves with differences of opinion that cannot be bridged, and completely incompatible sets of ideas for the band's further development," the group said in an official statement. "The rest of the band will continue working with full force under the name THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, and sees this as an opportunity for further musical experimentation and evolution. This also involves finding a new, permanent, female singer, although not necessarily a replacement for Liv.

"Let it be said that there is no animosity from the band towards Liv, and we wish her all the best with her work."

As previously reported, Liv Kristine has teamed up with members of the German band ATROCITY (fronted by Liv's husband Alexander Krull) (photo) in a brand new group called LEAVES' EYES. LEAVES' EYES recently spent time at Alex's Mastersound studios in Stuttgart/Fellbach, Germany recording their first original songs, to be released in late 2003/early 2004 through an as-yet-undetermined label.

In addition to THEATRE OF TRAGEDY and LEAVES' EYES, Liv is currently involved in a pop project dubbed simply LIV KRISTINE. Two MP3 clips recently produced by Alex at Mastersound studios are available for download from Kristine's web site. Check them out: "The Woman in Me" (mp3), "U R the Night" (mp3).

This happened once before, when Ray and Liv broke up. I hope they get her back. Maybe Liv wants to be a pop star on her own now, I don't know.

maybe they'll return to the old sound and stop screwing with this pseudo-EBM/trip-hop crap.

Theatre of Tragedy should have stopped using that name after "Aegis," because that was the last album that even remotely resembled the original sound of the band. Hell, they could have kept their sound that way, with Ray's voice less gritty and death metal-ish, and they still would have been an awesome band. But the techno-popgoth-rock shit... Ugh.

As for Liv departing... Eh. I mean, she is a fantastic singer, but there are hundreds of attractive women with strong, operatic voices out there. Especially over in Europe. And maybe they'll find one that doesn't want to make the band even more pop.

I always liked Lacuna Coil more. T.of T.'s older stuff was pretty cool, but TheDarklingLord made a good point. "Aegis" was their last, really good album. All their other stuff lately has been, well.....blah. As for Liv, she has a good voice, but I know other hot, female singers who could run circles around her. Hope the new female vox won't lead the band futher down the techno-pop track. Go back to the hard-core metal sound that got me into them.

COMMENT | Liv was a fox.

Liv was hot. Too bad you could tell ToT was heading down the drain in the Aegis cd. Definitely a good Doom Metal band if you wanted to get into that music, but I really won't look forward to anything new from Liv unless she's in Playboy.

She was a really good singer, I hope that they can find someone better and just keep going.

And to all the cry babies always bitching about bands changing their styles, I got one word for you:

ULVER!

Now choke on that and quit your stupid bitching.
