SILVERCHAIR Singer Teams Up With Dance Producer In THE DISSOCIATIVES - Dec. 11, 2003
SILVERCHAIR frontman Daniel Johns and dance producer/artist Paul Mac have officially announced the birth of their new band — THE DISSOCIATIVES.

The pair spent about two months together this year, with writing and recording stints in London, Sydney and Newcastle.

The first fruit of these sessions will be revealed when the debut single from THE DISSOCIATIVES — a song called "Somewhere Down The Barrel" — premieres on Australian radio in February 2004. This will be followed by the Australian release of their self-titled, self-produced album around April.

Daniel and Paul have also announced that they plan to bring some other like-minded musicians on board for a series of tour dates later next year.

The first seeds of THE DISSOCIATIVES were sown back in 1997 after Paul remixed SILVERCHAIR's song "Freak". At the time Daniel and his bandmates were enjoying their second multi-platinum album and Paul had already racked up a decade in the vanguard of Australian dance music. In 1998, Paul was asked to add "noises" to SILVERCHAIR's third disc, "Neon Ballroom". Not long after that, he and Daniel began dabbling together in their home studios (the "accidental" results were eventually released as the online EP "I Can't Believe It's Not Rock"). Paul was also an integral part of SILVERCHAIR's acclaimed "Diorama" album — performing piano on six songs and guesting with the band during their ARIA Awards performance last year.

The pair's decision to form THE DISSOCIATIVES grew out of all these experiences and the fast friendship that formed as a result.

Both Daniel and Paul definitely see their new band as "more than just a side project". They recently shot a video for "Somewhere Down The Barrel" and they are both focusing completely on releasing their album and touring next year.

While they plan to work separately on other projects in late 2004 and 2005, they hope to eventually make more albums as THE DISSOCIATIVES.

"Somewhere Down The Barrel" and "The Dissociatives" will be released in Australia and Southeast Asia by Eleven: a music company through Virgin/EMI. Overseas release plans are yet to be finalized.

Maybe my take on blabbermouth is totally wrong but what does a dance producer getting together with an ex grunge wanna be who barely qualifies as rock these days have to do with a heavy music news page ?

Thats right, thats no misprint. Silverchair's last album, "Diorama", in my opinion is one of the best rock albums of all-time. It is AMAZING, and anyone who has an open mind to fresh and unique rock n roll, buy it! You'll be blown away!

And as much as I love and respect Kurt Cobain, he could NEVER have made an album such as Diorama, so don't go around calling him a Cobain/grunge wannabe.

I really hope Silverchair don't break up. They are awesome. Daniel Johns: stay with Silverchair!

I will say "their first few(2) albums were a bite off Nirvana" but on (neon) they started to grow and find a sound and then ((Diorama))- They were awesome, and left Cobrains nothing but a dust n' bones.

AWESOME AWESOME ALBUM *****Diorama*****
-Its not heavy metal but still very cool!

*Cobrains would have shit his pats had he heard this album- (Diorama) and he is prob. rolling over in his grave wishing he was still alive....

Sounds ok in my book .
It reminds me of a Marilyn Manson song off M.Animals.

It is better than a band name like: "pod" or "staind" or "cold" or "linkin park" orfor jesus christ sake bett than "limp pusscut"....
Now those are stupid names and stupid nu-metal !!!!

NU-metal sucks ass

here are some groups with some blindmelonesque sound:

Unified Theory / Abandon Jalopy (duh!)
Doug Martsch
Halo complex
Soul Asylum
Candlebox (when they go acoustic)

This album blew my mind . ((Diorama))- ....

I have never really heard anything like it .

If i did have to compare it((Diorama))- to anything ... For strange reason it reminds me of Kisses "music from the elder" and i say that cause it was such a complete 360 degree turn around . EXPERIMENTAL for Kiss then but still came off good ...

ok i am weird....

((Diorama))=
one of the greatest albums ever made !!!!

DISSOCIATIVES =
It has to do with drugs and shit and D.Johns , I am sure had his fill of drugs over the past 2years with that weird shit that happened to his arm.

Daniel Johns= Will prob turn out to be one of my fav. singers of all time(on a top 10 list)...

He is so young and is proving himself to be a fucking bad ass dude.He makes some pussy music (but damn i love it)....
Guess i am what i eat=pussy

His voice is awesome (one of the best) and his lyrics awesome & some of the coolest ever !
Esp. on DIORAMA (some of the lyrics are freaky , weird,spaced-out and shit)...
Almost on the Morrison tip!

but that is how i see it,

a cross between:
Blind melon-(lyrics&voice)
Jim Morrison-(poety&mystery)
and
Kiss -(music from the Elder)

These 3 (with todays tech.)

...any band that starts with the word "THE" is bound to be crap. Yeah, I know that's a bit close minded, but I associate 'the' bands with the whole garage rock scenario, y'know, the Strokes, the White Stripes, etc. And I thought Daniel Johns had some rare form of arthritis that kept him from performing with Silverchair.

Their EP should've been titled "I Can't Believe Silverchair Were Ever Important" and cynically repackaged with the "In Utero" cover just to fool the post-grunge trogdolytes stuck in 1994 gullible enough to listen to anything that even remotely sounds like third-rate Nirvana.

Oh, wait, did someone just say that Johns' new band sounds like Lifehouse? This band is so screwed.

...read my post again, I said "I tend to associate 'the' bands with garage rock scenario". You guys have to admit its very trendy right now to have a band name that begins with 'The'. Don't throw classic bands from the 60's and 70's at me saying they bagin with 'the'. Music is cyclical, and it has come and gone and is back again naming a 'the' band. A few years ago it was bands with numbers, ex. Sum41, Marvelous 3, Matchbox 20, etc. Before that it was the three initial syndrome, C.O.F., S.O.D., V.O.D., etc. As for 'The" Krusher, if I said it once I said it a thousand times, I simply stole the name from the old Bugs Bunny cartoon where he's a pro wrestler and faces an opponent named, "The Krusher". Nothing more to it, nothing less. Little did I know when I signed on that one time to this site I would be saddled with this name forever. I don't care though, I don't need to constantly change my screen name to confuse people, and I stand by everything I've ever posted.

COMMENT | Yeah guys, I see your point...

...and I sure didn't mean anything about the name changes, especially when people rip off your style and pretend to be something/someone they're not. And Melonhead, I know it was a joke, and it was a good one, I've been posting here so long I didn't even realize my own screen name had 'the' in it until you pointed it out! D'oh!
