KING DIAMOND: Live Album To Surface Next Year - Dec. 16, 2003
KING DIAMOND recorded several shows during their recent U.S. tour and are currently in Sweden at guitarist Andy LaRocque's studio (Los Angered) outside Gothenburg listening to the tracks and deciding what to use towards a possible live CD. "[The recordings] sound great and a live album should be finished next year," drummer Matt Thompson said in a recent online posting. "We will tour Europe in 2004 if all goes as planned."

KING DIAMOND's latest CD, "The Puppet Master", was released in late October through Metal Blade Records.

What's your point. Rob Halford can sing pretty fucking high too.

I'm partial to Abigail and Them myself, but nothing will ever top MELISSA!

SUED King diamond back in t he late 80's and WON. Chaim's claim was that King's makeup was "familar, similar and comprehensively and comparitvely based on the images presented, owned and copyrighted by the band KISS." Next thing you know King (Kim) had to change his look.

Was flawless and brilliant. Four, count 'em FOUR god-damned encores. Including "Halloween" and "No Presents for Christmas", complete with the SATAN uh...oops I mean SANTA suit. His new cd "Puppet Master" kicks ass also. The DVD included with it, may be one of the most evil ghost stories I have ever heard.

And besides, the new makeup arrangment King had A) fit the story of Conspiracy, and B) wasn't different enough to avoid the accusations presented against him.

The Downtown show was pretty cool, but King did three encores the whole tour. In fact, if they didn't keep doing encores and just played straigth through, they could've fit another song in. Also, a King Diamond show would be so much better without all those damn theaterics! That's why if I had to choose between DVD and CD, I'd take the live CD anyday.

Also, Puppet Master is good, but the only KD I like less is House Of God (the only KD album I don't like). Some classics exist though, like Puppet Master and Blood To Walk.

I hope Metal Blade wakes the hell up and puts out a King Diamond live album this time (3CDs!). They've been putting it off for far too long, and the fact that this live release that they're working on right now still has a tentative status is very discourageing.

Actually Gene only THREATENED to sue, and it was after King had already changed his face.

I remember most people's reaction at the time was that Gene was an ass for doing this. Not only was the makeup not even that similar, but it made Gene look like he was picking on the 'small guy.'

Even tho King does some cheesy theatrics, his music is still pretty good. Anyone remember the 1st Mercyful Fate reunion tourin the 90's? King opened with the PA intro for "Don't break the oath" with a "slide show" of lightning, we were laughing so hard we almost pissed ourselves! There were 2 screens on either side of the stage that has slide shows throughout the set, no video, talk about about CHEESY! I know the intent was there, but so was Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge". Sometimes it's better off to drop the props & just play the music. I love Mercyful Fate & KD's music, a live DVD would be great to see, but probably embarrassing to release at the same time.

I saw the Puppet Master Tour in Tampa, and all I can say is that it was INCREDIBLE!!! I already have the 2 live King Diamond albums, and still listen to them on a regular basis. I eagerly await the next release, and hope that one day we will be able to see a King Diamond DVD... I also second the motion that there MUST be another Mercyful Fate album and DVD in the future... I'd love to see them live with the original lineup...

If King had come out in the last five years or so, it would be super-cheesy; but he's been doing this since the early-to-mid-eighties.
Plus, his lyrics are usually pretty good. Whenever I get a King album, one of the first things I do is read the lyrics. It's like reading a short story.

Since I am an old bastard, I saw King Diamond on the Them tour and the whole show was sick. He brought out "Grandma" in a wheelchair and slit her throat!!! In fact, even though I wasn't a fan, Armored Saint opened up with John Bush on vocals.
Either way, King Diamond is truly a huge influence even on music which is out now. The melodic, classical sounding leads which a lot of bands play these days (ie Arch Enemy and some of the last Carcass releases, Soilwork, etc.) take their influence from what King and his bands (both Fate and King Diamond) did. He is truly an inovator and deserves the recognition for never deserting the type of metal which he plays.

I've been a big fan of King's since Abigail and he has never disappointed with an album. Sure, I like some better than others, but you always know what your gonna get with King. By the way, "Them" is the greatest King Diamond cd and one of the best metal cd's ever!

King PAVED the way for all the black metal you hear. Don't Break The Oath (Mercyful Fate) set new standards for how dark music could be, and still does! Ask any black metal band out there what King Diamond means to them!

I saw KD in Philadelphia w/my girlfriend in November and it was easily one of the best shows we've ever seen, even better than Maiden over the summer. Everyone should buy The Puppet Master--great story and solid songs.

P.S. King had to pay that greedy fucker Gene Simmons an undisclosed sum in an out of court settlement. All the $ that morons have pumped into Kiss's bank accounts still isn't enough for them, so they had to squeeze an underground metal act for cash. Pathetic.

For the LAST time, the album is called PUPPET MASTER, not MASTER OR PUPPETS! Learn the difference. Metallica didn't even invent their own music, what makes you think they coined the term puppet master? The metallica album's title is metaphorical. King's title is literal. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE.
