Atlanta Radio Station Drops Hint About VAN HALEN Reunion
- Feb. 20, 2004
|
|
LiveDaily.com reports: "One of the worst-kept secrets in rock may soon be publicly revealed Atlanta radio station 96 Rock's website features an item under the heading 'The Reunion They Said Wouldn't Happen,' next to which is a blurred, 1995 photograph of guitarist Eddie Van Halen. " 'Keep listening for a major concert announcement ... SOON!,' reads the item. "Late last year, former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar announced that he had rekindled his friendship with estranged former bandmates Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Rumors suggest that the three, along with VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony, are recording new material and will likely tour this year."

I think we all know what that one is... Even tho Dave is basically washed up Vegas act now. It would be awesome to see them one more time for the helluva it. I got to see them on the Diver Down tour and 1984... That was what Rock n Roll was all about.

Isn't it interesting how Sammy Hagar and Van Halen were both awesome on their own, but when they joined forces they turned into one big pile of suck. Almost like they canceled each other out or something....

I liked some of the Sammy era. But! If these fools would just forget all the silly shit(the past) and give Dave a chance. Time is running out. These guys are not getting any younger and neither am I !
Sammy was/is too sappy and light weight. I know he is a cool guy and all...Takes more than cool to front V.R. (Ask Gary Crome) Nothing is V.H. like Diamond Dave. So what! He is an asshole-(aint we all)...
Sammy = I will not buy the cd or never go see them live!!!
Dave= I would be a first day buyer of the cd and tickets (to maybe even more than one show)...
SEE THE DIFFERENCE?!(opinons i guess)
DAVE=SCREAMS MADNESS. SAMMY=JUST SCREAMS!

The station has talked about this for months. They were talking yesterday afternoon and said that it would be BOTH Hagar and Roth. Hagar is a lock, but I would seriously doubt Dave would do it....he's been burned by the brothers too many times!

This could be a banner year for concertwise. I can die a happy man and cross Van Halen AND Rush off my list of "to see shows" if Van Halen/Van Hagar does reunite. I could care less who was singing as long as Eddie was shredding. C'mon Ed, make it happen!

I am a guitar player and I was once a HUGE Van Halen fan. But, once I heard the first single with Hagar, I was no longer a fan. In fact, 1984 was Van Halen's Black album, in my humble estimation.
As much as I love and respect his contribution, I would just assume have the "good memories" than see them attempt a reunion.
I know I will be crucified for this, but, his playing is no longer interesting to me. Remember Atomic Punk? Fire? I'm the One? Somebody Get Me a Doctor? ERUPTION??? So many more, so little time. THAT was interesting and innovative.
If they were to get together again, I get the sense that I'd have to go back to my cocaine habit to stay awake.
Lastly, there is no taking away his immeasurable contribution to rock guitar. His legacy is evident everywhere and most of us can't deny that. My hope and prayer is that should they decide to get together, please, PLEASE make it worth it.

Remember, 1984 is when they REALLY broke into the big time. I mean among rockers, they were already a househole name, but it was their biggest to date...the "breakthrough". That's why I made the Black album comparison. And for what it's worth, I didn't say I didn't like it. In fact, I knew how to play that song note-for-note. Trust me, I was a DEDICATED fan, got to see that tour and for all intents and purposes, it was the most euphoric time of life for music.
When Sammy joined, to me, that was the end of it for me. He was a great singer and still is, but Van Halen with DLR was it for me.
So, I agree with you Dave is old...a caricature of himself. Sammy is still viable as evidenced by his singing and success after VH. But, like the song says: "Aint nothin' like the real thing, baby."

Saw them in '78 for their opening debut at DOG#3 in Oakland, CA, then in Dec. '78 opening for Black Sabbath. Then '79 for Van Halen II. That was Van Halen! If they hire Dave again, this will be the concert of the year. Which year? or as evh has stated "What summer?" Go see 'em then kiddies!

"drunken squirrel cock".....that shouldn't be funny but it is.
If they can't get DLR back ten I agree with having either Seb Bach or Dio as the new singer.
Too bad we'll never know the benefit of Van Halen fronted by Rhett Forrester, though. That would be fucking sick to see and hear.

. It IS funny - funny how other posters refered to the "inbred" line, yet you only refer to MY post - proving that I am still VERY much on your radar - thanks for pointing that out.
I quote you:
"From now on, I'll just ignore your stupid ass."
What happened? Give up? No guts? Wife wouldn't let you? Just couldn't pull it off, could you - typical. I mean, you already admitted you have no spine back a couple of months ago when you admitted you feared your wife to the point of hiding your music from her because you were AFRAID she'd bail on you, right? As such, this comes as no surprise.
Welcome back.
