ACE FREHLEY Attends AA Meetings, Gets Serious About Sobering Up

According to a posting at KissKollector.com, original KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley is making a serious effort to get clean and sober again with the help of ex-wife Jeanette, with whom he has re-established a romantic relationship. Frehley, who has grown a full beard, has been steadily attending AA meetings and has stayed away from the party scene for almost six months now.
In other news, it now appears that one of the opening acts previously announced for KISS' Australian tour has been removed from the bill. At first it looked like SPIDERBAIT and GRINSPOON would be the opening acts, but SPIDERBAIT have already been taken off the drawing board so it's gonna be GRINSPOON and another Australian band that is yet to be named.

and the Invasion stuff and the wonderful work he did with kiss cds.
I even have REVENGE ,in which Vinnie wrote most of that

I ran into Ace at O'Shea's in Yonkers (close to where he lives/lived) about a year ago. Now I've know Ace for close to 15yrs and he was so hammered he didn't even recognize me. He was there for his solo bands drummers' b-day party. His cover band was playing there and they tried to get Ace to play and he was too wasted to even strap the damn guitar on. As we were leaving at 4am all I remember was watching him trying to navigate himself across Central Ave. Sad sight indeed....
Oh yea, het Boner....If V.V. is such a wonderful player, where has he been and what has he done since Kiss? I know, do you? Oh, wait, you'll just Google search and fill me in....This ought to be good......

Hey W.A.R. why such the hatred towards Bruce? Bruce is a great guitarist. So, you like Vinnie and Tommy or whoever better. So what! Your opinion. Bruce IS a part of KISSTORY!! wheher or not you like him or not. I personally don't like Vinnie, but he is one hell of a musician. But, I am not slammin him because of that. I'm glad Ace is getting help. I missed meeting him again at the KISS/Aerosmith show.

By early 1996, Vinnie had recorded a 4-song EP called, Euphoria, which showcased material from his soon-to-be-released album, Guitarmageddon. Robert Fleischman appeared on vocals but the EP was not well received and Vinnie went into seclusion once again. Guitarmageddon still has not surfaced.
Vinnie appeared in 1996 at several KISS conventions donning his Wiz makeup and costume before receiving a cease and desist order from KISS.
In January 1998, Vinnie's ex-wife, Annemarie, disappeared from her home in Connecticut and was not found until mid-2000. The couple had twin daughters.

Technically speaking, is a great player. Now that's not to say Vinnie is a slouch but there's a reason he's no longer a part of Kiss. Those of us old enough to remember can tell you that Vinnie caused his own demise with Kiss. He thought he was the be all, end all for that band. Obviously not. I remember Vinnie growing up in the scene here in CT. He's from Bridgeport and I'm from Stamford (20mins apart) and there were MANY occasions where we would run into each other and while he was always cool with me, that was not always the case with others. (Vinnie, from time to time, would check out the local talent. I'm 8yrs younger than him so it's not like we were part of the "scene" together)
Bruce is not only a VERY nice guy but is directly responsible for the Kiss sound that most of us remember fondly. There's NO NEED to wish he was shot in the head because you can't appreciate him in Kiss. It's bad enough that the guy was shot to begin with but to harbor such a strong opinion of someone you don't even know or know about is downright silly.
As far as Vinnies career is concerned.....well, there really isn't one. He's floating around TRYING to do something. Last I was told was a "possible" reformation of Slaughter w/Vinnie.
With most Kiss fans, Vinnie is remembered about as much as Mark St. John......

...when the VV Invasion album came out, me and my friends were all young and up-coming guitar players and were amazed at his fast leads (like I said we were young, maybe a little naive too). Then later there was a rumour that the recordings of his leads were all sped up to make them faster. Anybody ever hear anything about that? Maybe it was just a local rumour.

There were storys of Vin's playing being sped up. I personally can't confirm or deny knowing anything about that but I can say, from personal experience, that yes, he "was" a fast player. Now try to keep in mind that at that time there really weren't guy's like Malmsteen, Romeo, etc, so ANYONE who was playing "fast" was accused of having their playing "sped up".
He's actually not that bad of a songwriter either but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why he is where he is now.......His greatest accomplishment was landing the gig with Kiss, yet he was his own worst enemy in losing it too.........................

Vinnie lives in Nashville and keeps a pretty low profile while ghostwriting and ghost-playing for "hat -of-the-month" country singers. I live pretty near there and know a few people in "the biz" who keep me informed- NOT that there is a lot to tell.
I agree with WAR about Vinnie- IMHO, he is easily the most talented guitarist to have played in KI$$. Problem is, he does not play well with others. How he is keeping the old ego in check while working behind the scenes, I have NO idea. Maybe he just doesn't care since it's not his kind of music.
I would like to hear Frehley, Thayer or Kulick (St. John for that matter) try to play any of the solos on either of the VVI albums. AIN'T gonna happen, folks! VV is light years ahead of any of them in speed, techniques and all around fretboard knowledge.
BTW- I don't believe his solos were speeded up. Saw him live a few times and he pulled it off superbly! The boy can play.
Finally- Best wishes to Ace "Curley" Frehley. I do hope he gets on the wagon OK. I always hated knowing that a hero of my youth was a full-time sot.

Thanks all for the kind words...
It's funny sometimes reading the ramblings of some on here. I used to just lurk around this site gettin' my news and would laugh my ass off at some of the comments and discussions going on.
I spend a majority of my days traveling, meeting with equiptment reps, press, interviews and playing for some of you folk but mostly it's hotel downtime. (Thank God for laptops) I have T-Bone to thank for my registering because it was his sillyness that aggrivated me so much that I felt the need to speak my peace also. There are some brilliant minds on here and it's always a pleasure interacting with most of you. (Ok....... ass kissing over)
Now, as I've told the Bone before, I've been in this business for what seems like eons now and I know tons of people so if I can shed some light (see: TRUTH) on certain subjects, I will.
There are MANY in the business that frequent this site not only for the news but to also giggle their mother f'n ass' off at what is written here on a daily basis. However, we are all in "agreeance" that T-Bone is an institution all unto himself. I have said it time and time again....Either he's the stupidest person on the planet or he is pulling the biggest scam in message board history. For the last couple of days I have been attacking most of his posts like I have never gone after someone before. I try not to sink to that level but there are times when I truly can't believe I'm reading what I'm reading. I have to imagine that if B.Mouth wanted him gone he would be. I figure it's not to hard to ban his ISP, but what do I know......My opinion is that B.Mouth LOVES the bone. This guy cannot not only alter the discussion of a thread, but any thread he's on becomes the Bone against the world thread. (Shit, some of you even post wondering where the Bone is)
Those of us who've been here awhile remember Bone being gone for a bit. EVERYONE was wondering where the Bone was including myself. Lo and Behold, he returns and seems to have gotten stupider. (if that's at all possible)
Message to Bone: Conduct yourself like a semi-intelligent individual and people will respond in kind. No more ? ! + = etc,etc,etc...No more "so-n-so is GOD....No more wishing harm on others.....I could go on forever but you get the point. (I hope).

and put the conversation back on topic, and maybe give a little perspective. ace was great, back in the day. he had a style of his own , and could have done anything he wanted: except he just wanted to party and fuck up. hope the aa thing works for him. it does for some and not for other, but with the 2nd A meaning "anonymus" i have my doubts about ace's chances. sounds more like a ploy at getting some press.
oh yeah... vinnie WAS the most talented guitar player kiss ever had. too bad he couldn't keep it together.

The guy has needed to clean up for a long time. I hope he beats it this time.
I was fortunate enough to do a show with Ace and even tho he was pretty messed up, he was very cordial to this former Kiss fan. Bruce Kulick is another VERY nice guy along with Eric Carr (RIP). Met Bruce and Eric backstage and those guys were the heart and soul that kept me listening to KISS after the departures. St John was another cool dude. Anyone have any idea what he's up to now? Last I heard of him was when I picked up his solo "Magic Bullet Theory" cd in 2003..what a fucking incredible cd too. The guy is truly an amazing musician.
Drumguy, thank you for the sane and informative posts in the sea of mediocrity.. It's sometimes hard to read these posts..I'm like you and am on the road a lot and read many and just crack up at some of the childish flamings and the like. See you on the road brother.
