FANTOMAS, MELT BANANA To Hit The Road Later In The Month
- Mar. 12, 2004
FANTOMAS, the band featuring former FAITH NO MORE vocalist Mike Patton, MR. BUNGLE bassist Trevor Dunn, MELVINS guitarist Buzz Osbourne and SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo, will be teaming up with MELT BANANA for a month-long tour beginning on March 25 in Ventura, California.
When asked recently by Billboard.com if FANTOMAS will perform their recently released third album, "Delirium Cordia", in its entirety on the upcoming trek, Patton said, "No, we won't play the whole thing. I did design one set where we never play loud. It is basically just going to be little small islands you swim to in the middle of the swamp. It is going to be drone city, baby. We are, for the most part, going to lean really heavy on this ambient stuff, and we are going to basically set up to bore people to tears."

For those of you who aren't familiar with Melt Banana, they are a female-fronted Japanese band who kick-ass. I wouldn't call them metal, and I was skeptical at first when I went, but they kicked my ass, and usually it takes some brutal-ass metal to impress me. Their bass player is also a chick, and the guitar player wears a mask over his mouth cuz he's got some really bad disease. Fantomas rocks too. I wish I could go dammit!
COMMENT | What About Florida?!?!?!?! posted by : freakseed 3/12/2004 9:16:26 AM
Fantomas is quite an interesting novelty, but how can this tour deprive me of Melt Banana? Banana TOTALLY destroys everything in it's path!! There most recent album "Cell-Scape" is relentless! I am very disappointed that this tour comes from the southwest then totally disses Florida and heads up the east coast. VERY disappointed. Come on Patton, bring Melt Banana down to Florida for cryin' out loud!! And by the way, to comment on the last post, not only is the bass player a chick, so is the singer... and she rips!

Mike Patton is fucking hilarious. He is an insane genius...anyone heard his record about cooking Italian food? good stuff.
I would for once like to see him do something serious with his immense talent however, as none of his many side projects (aside from Bungle) ever gave me the chills the way a few Faith No More songs used to.

Dave Witte hasn't always played drums for Melt Banana only on the last couple of tours. Hopefully he'll tour this one as well. Shit, Witte then Lombardo, that's going to be beautiful.
