Michigan Girl Dies After Attending SLIPKNOT Concert

Danielle Quisenberry of Central Michigan Life reports that Alecia Holst had no idea when she left for Detroit Friday night (April 16) to attend a SLIPKNOT concert at Harpos Concert Theatre that it would be her last. Holst did not return to Mount Pleasant. While at the concert, she went into sudden cardiac arrest, her heart failed and she was rushed to St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit where she died Tuesday night. She was 21. Doctors are unsure what caused the arrest. Drugs or alcohol were not a factor. Her friends at CMU, the same friends she had at Thornapple Kellogg High School in Middleville, where she spent her young life, will remember her as the smiling, but stubborn girl who kept them grounded. about a month ago a Loyola or Cornell lacrosse player was killed when a ball (lacrosse balls can travel in speeds excess of 90 mph, and they are way harder than baseballs, trust me) struck him in the chest.
If someone has an arrhythmia, or if you are struck at just the right time above the heart, it can interfere, with something known as the qt interval and stop your heart.
This poor girl may have had the dumb luck of being hit in the chest by a mosher or stagediver/crowdsurfer, and boom, that's it, your dead.
The point is, when I first read JJ's post I was like "WTF does this have to do with security guards?" Well, it may.

Dude, I was going to say the same thing. Here in San Jose, a kid was killed when a buddy of his punched him the chest. The autopsy showed that he had a heart condition/arrhythmia. Your theory is a pretty good one.

but had no idea what was going on. After the concert I was walking out and there were police cars, ambulances, a news crew, and a fire truck outside with lights and sirens going off. I thought there was a fight or something. I had no idea this had happened. J.J. is right Harpos is a joke when it comes to fights and shit. Security would rather sit on there asses and smoke then break up fights. Its in the middle of the shittiest part of Detroit and when you get inside you think your safe? Nope. Its probably safer outside dodging gang gunshots.

This is really sad. Only 21 years old , not nearly enough time here. I kinda know how its like , i had alot of friends and family members that didnt make it to 21, really melancholic shit man. Yeah concerts are insanely wicked now adays, nothing like how it use to be back in the good ol days when they were more traditional to go too. Nowadays you have a bucnh of kids going there to have an excuse to fight ( if you live in south florida, youll knwo about all the pussy ass fucking skinheads) Ive had a couple of my younger friends still in their beginning adult hood years get serioulsy fucked up at some of these concerts. What i think is what funny is when all of these people do this lame ass shit at concerts like hate breed and lamb of god but when its a concert like immolation or dying fetus , those pussy motherfuckers wont even step in the pit.. Its a shame.... Well i would like to express my condolences to the family and all of her friends, regardless of what music she liked, she was still a young human being who probaly did not deserve to die. Rest in piece my metal sister.

yeah i mentioned this earlier today on the Joey Jordison thread. my older brother i believe was there, i was gonna be there too but i couldn't get a ticket. i go to CMU. i probably have seen her around or even met her before but don't remember.
a damn shame, it was front page news on our campus paper today, saw a picture of her and a whole article about her. again, a damn shame. my condolences.

I believe the point of us offering our condolences is not merely to pay respects to a random deceased individual, but to show our support to her friends and family who might be reading this. Do you want to read an article about your friend's death at a concert and read, "She's not worth the 4 seconds it would take to type 'my condolences'"? Fuck no! If anybody who knew this girl reads this article and sees all the support that the friends and family of this girl are shown by the posters on this board, it might put a smile on their face and make them feel just a little better. So what if it doesn't affect me or you in the slightest - I think of others besides myself, and I'm sure the same applies to most of the posters here.

That happened to a friend of mine before my senior year of high school. First person I ever knew well that died. He was attending an overnight lacrosse camp, went to sleep one night and never woke up. He was 17 I believe.

Pat Tillman was about as alturistic and loyal a person as you can be. He is the first person that I have ever met that has died in this war. I have about 20 other friends over there right now fighting. If you want to give props to somone you know who has died for a cause that they believed in tear it up. I went to this show, let me tell you..it was completely oversold, and apparently the heat was turned up, to help sell drinks.If anyone should be sued it should be Harpos!The girl apparently died for 5 minutes but was revived.That was all i heard.But i was just standing upstairs away from the pit and i was sweating like a dog!!

I was at this show. It was definatly oversold.
If you would have seen how jam packed the floor was, you'd understand how she died.
I'm 6 ft 1, 220 pounds. I can take care of myself, no problem.
I took one look at that floor and wisely stayed off. You could not have squeezed another body down there if you tried.
Very sad. I saw the ambulances when I left. She wasnt the only one hurt that night.
Whoever was with her should have known better. Take it from a veteren of over 400 concerts - If a big guy like myself stayed away, She definatly had no business being down there.

Okay w_hellfire..I didn't try to make this into a political thread, nor would I ever. Politics suck.
8 soldiers from my area have died in Iraq. Six of them were young metalheads. They supported local metal bands as well as well known metal bands. I'm not on Blabbermouth begging Bori to put up a news story about them. They (like Pat Tillman) were brave and loyal individuals. Braver than some of the heartless whiney posters on Blabbermouth will ever be. They died for their country. To me, EVERYone of those soldiers living AND the dead are heroes.
And uh backfromthedead? This "fuckface" was merely replying to the poster's asking Bori to post a story on Tillman because he was into metal..read a little closer.
And finally to WasteofFlesh? Evidently you've never lost anyone close to you, BUT how do you know if any of Alecia's friend's may read Blabbermouth and might feel a little better knowing some humanity in this world actually DOES care that she died at such a young age and we're sorry for their loss? that's pretty sad...first of all, i grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area, then moved near Detroit where everyone tells me to steer clear of Harpos. Not saying that she died because of the venue, but it's just not a good place to go if you wanna avoid any violence. I have a lot of friends that attend CMU, yet none of them have mentioned this incident to me yet.
I gotta mention that nobody said she died because of Slipknot. Now I would've gone to this show specifically for Fear Factory as I'm not a Slipknot fan...did they say it was during any specific band's set? Oh well, i guess it was just one of those freak things, i hope it doesn't affect future concert rules and such, except to maybe have someone on hand that can deal with medical emergencies.

I was at that show and me and my buddy were standing by the bar watching Slipknot's set when 4 of the workers started running up outta the bottom level by the stage just trying to get her some water, RIP Alecia. Harpo's is the shittiest place for a concert, their security check is "ticket please", you could walk right in with a gun and they wouldn't even care, but that's where are the metal acts usually go so i'll be there no matter what

you're right about walking in with a gun. is it true that there have been shots fired in there before? i coulda sworn i heard about there being bulletholes in the ceiling or one of the walls from a long time ago?

Oh hell yeah, there have been shots. Tear gas too. I could write you a book about all the crazy, stupid shit I've seen in that place. Thats not the first death either.
Back in 96(?), We were parked across the street from FEISTY CADAVERS singer Steve Crass and left just 5 minutes before he was shot to death.
Anyway, having witnessed this mess and how it went down (oversold, shitty useless security), I dont know that I'll be going to Harpos for too much longer. If that place was run properly, that girl would probably still be with us.

that wasn't 4 workers, that was me (the only girl, other then her), 2 guys I was with and another guy standing by us who was nice enough to help.
It's fuckin bullshit that damn venu didn't have anyone who knew shit working there! TYLADOG is totaly right! fuckin shithole place. They had no first aid kit, no medics, no AED, no nothing!
I sure as hell hope that Harpos gets what it fucking deserves over this....

but the cops are investigating this one, I'm not going to repeat what I've been told by them but they want to talk to anyone and everyone who was there about the conditions inside. if you're willing to talk to them email me at mcmaster_b@hotmail.com and I will email you the cops phone # (please make Harpos your subject so I know what I am getting an email about). It's good to see that people can't drop their holier than thou image long enough to respect someone that died attending a concert.
I've been on this site for awhile, and I recognize names, and some of the same people bitching were crawling all over the posts when Great White's shit went down.
But she was a Slipknot fan, so its cool that she died, right? Some classy individuals we got here.
