01. Bon Scott (AC/DC) - Angus is the real frontman of AC/DC 02. Freddie Mercury (QUEEN)- Good voice but gay ass moves. The clothes didnt help. 03. Robert Plant (LED ZEPPELIN)-Jimmy made him sound good in the studio. 04. Dave Lee Roth (VAN HALEN)- Cant sing live but makes up for it by being entertaining. He's top ten. 05. Steven Tyler (AEROSMITH)-Not a big fan but he deserves to be in the top ten 06. Ozzy Osbourne (BLACK SABBATH)- Boring live. Saying "I cant fucking hear you" a thousand times doesn't make you a good frontman 07. Axl Rose (GUNS N' ROSES)- treats his fans like shit, dances like hes in grade eight, and has to read lyrics off a tele-prompter. Shithead. 08. Bruce Dickinson (IRON MAIDEN)not a fan but the guy has stage presence and loads of energy. 09. Roger Daltrey (THE WHO) was good for his era 10. Phil Lynott (THIN LIZZY) cool guy but doesnt belong in top 10
Paul Stanley is #1. One of the coolest voices in rock. He also has more stage presence, and can fire up a crowd better, than anyone on the above list.

Uh James is a great frontman. Forget all those pussies who just sing James has the greatest riffs in heavy metal and sings while he is playing. There arent very many metal bands that have a lead singer who plays guitar and does both well. It's usually a band and a singer in the world of metal. Besides that his stage presence is very noticable. He interacts with his audience all of the time.

AliceInChains2: I'm not playing hard to get. I'm simply not interested, ok? I'm sure you're a very nice girl, but like I said, I'm married. Besides, I'm guessing that you're a minor, and pursuing this relationship could end me up in jail. So, no thanks. I'm sure you'll find another guy that you love more than me. Just give it time.

Hetfield doesnt get a mention? Like Metallica or not, you can not deny James of being a superb frontman deserved of being way up toward sthe pointy end of that list. Certainly a lot better than Axl fuckin Rose. Admittidly I dont like Axl, but getting into fights all the time and getting ass kicked on top of stopping shows for no apparent reason and inciting riots does not make a good frontman.

Dio has rocked for a long, long time. Now it's time for him to pass the torch. He has songs of wildabeasts and angels, He has soared on the wings of a demon.
It's time to pass the torch, You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you. We're takin' you to a home, But we will sing a song about you.
And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of. You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow! Your sauce will mix with ours, And we'll make a good goulash, baby. Dio, time to go! You must give your cape and scepter TO ME. And a smaller one for KG. Go, go! Dio, Dio!

Metallica (news - web sites) drummer Lars Ulrich has reportedly been hospitalized in Zurich, Switzerland, with an undisclosed ailment, forcing him to miss the band's performance Sunday (June 6) at the Download Festival in England. Slipknot's Joey Jordison and Slayer's Dave Lombardo filled in for Ulrich, literally at the last minute, as Metallica reportedly sought volunteers from other bands backstage. No other information was available at press time about Ulrich's condition.
According to reports online, Metallica arrived onstage a half hour late. Frontman James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo came to the front of the stage, where Hetfield announced, "Unfortunately our drummer, Lars, is in the hospital. We don't know what's wrong, but we wish him all the best. Some friends of ours are gonna help us out, so we're going to make rock history tonight!"
Lombardo performed the first two songs of the band's abbreviated, 11-song set, with Jordison taking over on the third number of the show.
Ulrich's longtime drum tech, Flemming, stepped in for song number six, "Fade To Black," before Jordison came back for the rest of the set, delivering what Virtual Festival called a "truly legendary performance." Although plans were initially made for several other drummers to join the band onstage, Jordison never left from the seventh song onward.
Metallica set list from the Download Festival:
"Battery" w/ Dave Lombardo from Slayer
"The Four Horsemen" w/ Dave Lombardo from Slayer
"For Whom The Bell Tolls" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Creeping Death" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Seek And Destroy" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Fade To Black" w/ Flemming (Lars' Drum Tech)
"Wherever I May Roam" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Last Caress" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Sad But True" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Nothing Else Matters" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot
"Enter Sandman" w/ Joey Jordison from Slipknot

i could name plenty, but one fact maybe that this is a guy that could tell the audience to fuck off, jump into the crowd to beat up a fan, incite a riot, walk off stage and never come back, etc. and STILL have people lining up to see him the next time he visits that city. alot of things go into making a good frontman (or frontperson, yes janis needed to be on there) and excitement, unpredicadability, and danger are just some of them. axl's got those and more. shit, even in his day jim morrison cursed out his own fans, no one says shit about that. and as for bon scott, sorry, but i dont even see him as top 20 worthy. top 3. robert plant, freddie mercury, and steven tyler.

Where is Halford, Jagger, and Dio? Those three cannot be left off any frontman list. They are way too important to just be given the cold shoulder.
The rest seems fair. Bruce Dickinson made the top ten, so it's obvious that the people who made the list were using at least half of their brains.

Good list, and Bon is one of my all time favourite singers. Of course everybody has a list of his own, and it is impossible to please everybody. So I think it is a very decent list, unlike the horrible Rolling Stone list of best guitarists. I would only add Geoff Tate to it, the guy has an amazing voice, just listen to Mindcrime. Even though the last 3 Queensryche albums were crap, the guy is still one of the best singers in rock music.

and phil anselmo, too. all great frontmen, though lately Phil has only gotten fatter, drunker and more incomprehensible.
Chuck Billy would be cool too.
Patton is a twat but you have to admit he's a good frontman.
Axl Rose can go eat dick, he sucks.
MAX CAVALERA, he's great too.
LEMMY and Alexi Laiho all have great charisma.

What kind of heartless bastard are you to deny Gaahl's mommy the opportunity to see junior as an official classic rock frontman? Once that is over with, he can start his carpet cleaning business.

This list is missing someone else: Bon Jovi. I know some of you are too young to remember when he was underground, but GOD DAMN! If you get a chance, do a google search for "Deathtongue". He was in this band (under a different stage name...I think it was Opus) and they opened for Ozzy back in the day. They were just as important - if not MORE important - than Metallica ever was.

I don't give a fuck if you like him or not, but Jonathan fucking Davis is one of the best lyricist when it comes to serious songs, and AINT NO ONE sound like JD. His stage presence is also awesome, and he loves his fans.
The Axl Rose bashing is ANNOYING! He is fucking awesome, I don't give a shit if he cussed at a fan or whatever.
Hetfield should be on this list, Danzig should be, Kurt Cobain, Jimmi Hendrix god damnit, WHERE THE HELL IS JOHN LENNON!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?????? ???????????????!!!!!!!!!
Robert Plant owns.

Plant deserves to be number one, even though he looks like shit right now. I think if Joplin is on that list, Hendrix needs to be on there too. Feelthedarkness, ummmm Jonathan Davis eats a bag of dicks, and for a frontman so does Kurt Cobain. Also you spelt Jimi Hendrix wrong. Only 1 M my friend

I honestly can't figure out when you're joking and when you're being serious. I know you're joking about Jonathan Davis but you must be right about Plant. What gives? Also, I hope to God you're kidding about Kurt Cobain being on this list. The only list that overrated junkie belongs on is "Top 10 Shotgun Deaths".

I will not disagree with the list as who is #1......but that is only my opinion.Bon is the "Rock N' Roll Singer" with the way he lived and died a Rock N' Roll death.I wish he could have survived to compeat with the likes of Mick Jagger,Robert Plant or Ronnie James Dio.....it would have been fun to see what he might have done outside of AC/DC as he did some decent stuff with his earlier bands The Valentines & Fraternity.I would have loved to hear a followup to "Ride On".......

I'm kidding about Kurt, but am serious about Jonathan and Jimi and John Lennon.
Jonathan not in the top 10 list, but he's still an amazing frontman. You can trash nu-metal all you want, it's a fucking label. Only nu-metal bands I like are KoRn and Slipknot.
Anyway, Mick Jagger is also missing from this list. Bullshit.

Let's remember that this is about classic rock frontmen. If this were about singers and musicians of the past decade or so, of course Maynard would be up there for me too. I've always believed that to be a legendary frontman, you need to have incredible stage prescence, a great singing voice, and the true leader of the band you are in. It is also my belief that Robert Plant is most definately the greatest frontman not only because he was all three of those things but because he embodied everything rock and roll was about.

I must say that some the people posting on this site are some of the most ignorant posters to ever come across a rock/metal site.
How anyone can criticize Axl is beyond me, the guy is one of the greatest ever frontmen, no discusions.
It doesn't seem like he will ever release his new album, but if he does, im gonna see alot of people here eating their own words.

Why is Scott above Plant?????? PLANT RULES ALL!!! as does Halford, and if i recall he's at 30 or something stupid... behind Axl Rose... who doesn't deserve to be there... even Paul "im an obese, wife beating drunk" Di'Anno of Iron Maiden (in at 64) has more place in that list than Axl Rose... David Byron from Uriah Heep should clearly win hehehehe... or Ian Anderson

GET SUM FUCKIN TASTE. a gud frontman in total shud giv a gud performance and afta seein the band u shud wanna c them agen and agen n stil wanna c more. Axl,Freddie,Robert,Roger,Mick..etc the roger deserves to be there cos they were biggest band in rock at one point, DO YOU THINK YOU GET THERE WITH A SHIT FRONTMAN? NO!!! get real, the bands tht r gr8 wil go down as classics not judas priests or thin lizzy, gud tunes n lyrics but wil never make top frontmen. top frontmen don't mean ur fave fuckin bands in order. the who r far from my top but roger daltry was ace as a frontman,no ques nomttr wot ne fuckers may say abt him.
