GLENN DANZIG Gets 'Knocked Out' By NORTH SIDE KINGS Singer Following Arizona Gig - July 4, 2004

DANZIG frontman Glenn Danzig allegedly got into a scuffle with NORTH SIDE KINGS singer and frequent SOULFLY collaborator Danny Marianinho following DANZIG's performance in Tuba City, Arizona Saturday night (July 3). The following is Marianinho's official statement regarding the incident, as sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"Before crazy rumors begin to spread I would like to explain what happened:

"NORTH SIDE KINGS (web site) were to play with DANZIG last night in Tuba City, Arizona. To make a long story short the whole show was a disaster and a few bands got bumped off. Mr. Danzig (or his management??) refused to push back the original scheduled time slot so NORTH SIDE KINGS and RAPID FIRE would have to play 'after' his set. Whatever — we agreed to play later because we drove 6 hours and didn't feel like going home without playing.

"Needless to say, as soon as DANZIG was finished, the venue turned on the lights and DANZIG's crew and the staging company began to take the stage apart almost instantly. I confronted Mr. Danzig backstage while he was signing autographs and told him I thought he was an asshole because of his 'rock star' attitude and no consideration towards the FEW other bands that got bumped off tonight. In a fit of rage he turned around and slammed me into the wall yelling 'Fuck you, motherfucker,' trying to be a big, tough guy in front of his fans. I, in self-defense, punched him in the face, knocking him out as he was attacking me again. He went down, bleeding from his mouth, eyes rolled back, and in shock that he got knocked to the floor so quickly.

"A friend happened to tape the entire incident and this is all documented. Many witnesses saw him attack me, and I did what any man would do.

"It was unfortunate that this went the way it did — and I hoped Glenn Danzig learned a valuable lesson tonight: Do not lay your hands on anyone unless you can handle what may happen.

"I apologize for nothing, except for the poor little kids that had to witness this big asshole get his ass kicked in a matter of seconds..."

	About time that Danzig got what was coming to him. It would've been funnier if the NSK fellow also yelled that the Misifts were better without Danzig (not true, but why not rub a little salt in the wound?). Of course, this doesn't motivate me to hear NSK anymore than before (collaborating with Soulfly doesn't exactly entice me...considering the past history of contributors to that band), and certainly his 15 minutes are already quickly burning up...but then again...when's the last time Danzig was relevant? Think about it? Who has given a shit about Danzig since he put out that horrible Blackaciddevil album? Danzig knows it too. He tried to branch off artistically, and failed horribly, so now he's gone back to rehashing his old solo material...only without John Christ writing the riffs, that sucks too. So he's been using other bands (Opeth, Lacuna Coil, Marduk, Behemoth, etc) as a draw on these 'Blackest of the Black' tours/shows in order to convince himself he's still a draw. So thinking about it...getting his ass kicked is the best thing that has happened to him in years. At least people are actually paying attention to him again. Btw- someone upload the tape on a server capable of handling massive numbers of downloads, heh.

	I have heard the street fight thing a lot, about how a street fighter would kick the shit out of a trained martial artist bla bla bla. American schools mostly suck anymore. 	Here in America I believe we are on the same channel about martial hobbyists You know the kind Show up to Kempo for an hour, learn some moves, and then leave your discipline as soon as you're out the door. If you train your body and mind when in class with 100% effort like a true warrior would then I agree with you. Let's be honest though, how many burger munching Karate or Kung Fu part timers even put 50% into their discipline. It is ridculously easy to get a black belt I know people who couldn't beat a fucking drum and they hold that title. 	Hey, didn't Glenn get his ass beat by Jani Lane of Warrant some time ago? As for Rollins, someone asked about his height earlier. I met up back in fabruary after his show in Milwaukee, and I'm 5'7" and am taller than him. Dunno by how much, maybe an inch or two. In many of his CDs though he makes a lot of fun about his height (go to his website and buy the "Eric the Pilot" CD...you will laugh your ass off at the most insanely true story...) Ok, said my peace. Glenn is a sissy who works out and wears pentagrams to look tough (I believe Billy Milano once said that "if he would have ever met Satan he would shit his pants"). 	I've been reading about all this "Blackbelt" shit. Unless you enter the ring and actually fight you're doing nothing but pretending. It's all forms much like dancing. Just like anything else you can't just study something and think you're ready for the real thing. Besides size is the most improtant thing that's why they have weight divisions. I love the man's work, but he is cocky and acted pretty stupid on this night. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I hope Dan gets the video up soon so I can watch it over and over again like we did in the Denny's parking lot after the show. No cheap shots, no blades, just a straight sock to Glenn's face and him spinning around and falling to the floor. The video couldn't be anymore perfect too. You can hear the whole conversation. And even through the video camera's speakers you could hear Danny's fist hitting Glenn's face. Amazing stuff. You'll all soon be humbled.

	This is my last comment because I do not need to justify anything regarding this maniac. The video will probably be available tomorrow. I would never pick a fight with a black belt, I am not some big toughguy looking for trouble. I have gotten my fair share of ass kickings. We have been filming a ton of footage for almost a year now, and had three camera guys at this show to film footage. Tons of tape from the entire day. Danzig freaked the fuck out completly way out of life. His camp has tried to post threads from me using my email address with statments saying this is false, but when the web hosts write me back they figure out that I never posted any rebuttle. His site banned my guitarist from making any statments on the7thhouse in regards to their bullshit comment saying I "used a sharp object." When the video is posted you will clear as hell that there is nothing in my hands. Maybe he cut his mouth on his "Vampire" teeth! Or maybe is face just opened up? Who cares - I was excited to play that show and was not expecting a fight. I was in mid conversation when he attacked me. And for the record- Danzig is NOT a little man- he may be short but he is in great physical shape. Better than me and I am at least 12 years younger. He threw me pretty hard and I reacted like anyone on this site would have. North Side Kings is not a touring band and really doesn't care about being popular. We are a hardcore band that does not want to tour. We are happy playing a few shows a year. And I wanted to clarify the subject before he put out somebullshit story- which his crew has already made crazy allegations. Still to this time he has not tried to contact me to apoligize for being a mental case...... Once again- I liked Danzig - otherwise we wouldn't have even been on the show. The guy is out of control. The video shows it all- and it was very uncalled for on his end. He caught me off guard when he attacked me- but I caught him with a good jab. Thats it in a nutshell. The lession here- respect the bands on your shows cause we are all people. Maybe when he is in Europe he will be more polite to the local bands on his shows. It's a shame this course had to be taken.

	This is a post by Leith the singer from Rapid Fire who was standing near me (and is the video) on what he saw: It is true. We (Rapid Fire) and the Northside Kings went up to Tuba City to play with Danzig up there. We get there at like five, and find out that the show that was supposed to start at one, hasnt even started yet, becuase the sound guys showed up five hours late. So, there are like 10 other bands besides danzig, and the show starts at six. Turns out, Danzig decides he doenst want to play at 12, hes playing at ten, which means four bands (including Rapid Fire and the NOrthside Kings) get fucked over, and have to play after him. Which is okay. But then, after Danzig gets done playing (with a huge bald spot i might add), he ends the show, has his crew turn on all the lights, and meanders off stage leaving all his shit up there. Then his crew starts taking down the mikes and everything. This is complete bullshit, as we were told we were playing after him. So, as dick face danzig is up backstage signing autographs, Danny from NSK goes over to him, and waits his turn, and when Danzig turns to him, Danny says " Thats messed up of you to have gone on then, you fucked over a lot of bands" And Danzig is all like, " we played when we were supposed to" and danny says, well now we cant play. And Danzig says, why dont you just play now? And danny says, we cant, your crew is taking everything down. After that, Danzig says "Fuck you mother Fucker" and pushes Danny. After the push, Danzig got a face full of fist, as Danny proceeded to Knock his stupid ass out. HAHAH, it was fucking awesome. The best part is, Danny was being totally cool and calm explaining what happened, and then Danzig calls him a mother fucker and pushes him like some tough guy, and then, I see Glen pussy Danzig laying on the floor with blood coming out of his mouth looking like he wants to cry. It was seriously one of the best things I have ever seen. Not to mention that I saw Danny NSK knock out (seriously knock out) GLen Danzig with one punch. Danny is a total bad ass. By the way - I am not a badass. Fuck off to everybody who is sucking Danzigs dick on here. He deserved worse, but I won't kick a man when he's down.

	Danzig is very short and not too big (he just looks big b/c of his height). I met him at the ho1kc premiere. I'm 6'0, and he barely came to my shoulders (with thick soled shoes on). Anyway, he was a dick to most of the people who tried to talk to him. I met Victor out on tour a few years ago, and he was nice as hell to everyone. So whoever said he's a bigger dick definately doesn't know what they're talking about. It amazes me how people view their idols. You've got posters in this thread that who are easily comparable to Durst's fans. You know, "his shit don't stink"! Anytime media or other entertainers attack him, they go off, "jealous fuckers are just talkin' shit, yo." You have to come to the realization that your idols are people, just like you. If they continually act like dicks behind a barage of body guards, they deserve to get knocked down a peg. I will reserve judgement until I see the video. One time, I watched as a kid was crowd surfing in front of a small venue stage, simply summersaulted (sp?) onto the stage, & merely bumped into Glenn's boots, kinda pushing him back a little. My only question is whether there was more insulting talk to danzig that happens before the video clip begins. Definitely no knife. I was pretty suprised that GD kept his hands so low and was so suprised when the dude retaliated, obviously his martial arts training was bullshit. If you know anything at all it's to keep your fucking hands ready to block or at least not be suprised when someone punches you after you push them. This Danny guy isn't much taller than GD and GD looks pretty beefy so it doesn't seem so unfair either.

	I stole this..but it is very informative: Shiiiit, for being a hardass rocker, Glenn sure doesn't know how to fight. First, I wouldn't have fucked with the guy anyway, but that's just me. In armchair quarterback fashion, we can see Mr. Danzig's elementary school fighting style. 1.) The push. Being a midget, it's imperative for Mr. Danzig to maximize what force he can exert, however, he does just the opposite. He actually pushes form the furthest opposite points, the NSK guy's shoulders, when he should've actually concentrated the force of both arms by putting his hands together and pushing against the middle of the NSK guy's chest in the lifesaving chest compression fashion. This would've projected the guy further, and probably startled him more. 2.) Pre-Blows Like a schoolyard bully who expects his victims not to fight back, Mr. Danzig stands in a relaxed position following the push. The correct tactic, as mentioned above would be to assume the traditional boxer's stance, with the body angled (depending on his right\left hand orientation) to minimize body real estate available for assault. He also should have had his lead hand to the front with his dominant hand brought back, and his chin tucked to guard against uppercuts and other chin blows. If he didn't want to directly provoke the NSK guy, he could've been at the ready while not looking obviously aggressive by placing his lead hand on his chin and his dominant hand on his opposite elbow, as if in "deep thought." Glenn's absolute cockiness resulted in him being completely unguarded. 3.) The punch. This makes it blatantly obvious that Mr. Danzig is, in fact, a bitch. Since the NSK guy has an obvious weight advantage over Mr. Danzig, the smart choice would've been to have use a passive defense, in order to use the NSK guy's momentum against himself. By swinging his right leg and body out while pushing the NSK guy's arm away with his left, Glenn could have easily dodged this chunky man's blow and most likely sent him for a devastating face plant into the opposite wall or floor, amongst other tactics. Glenn did not do this. The less intelligent choice for a man of small stature would have been to meet his aggressor's force head on by stepping into the blow and hooking his left arm over NSK's right arm, thus making the blow come around behind Danzig's back and enabling Danzig to incapacitate NSK's dominant arm. Assuming he could counter the momentum of NSK's body weight, Glenn could have attempted a throat, nose, or face shot with his right hand, followed by or in collusion with a foot sweep with his right leg, dropping NSK to the floor. This is iffy, though, as NSK is a hefty fellow. Instead, Mr. Danzig did neither, only throwing up a weak left arm for defense. This was unsuccessful as Danzig did nothing to move himself out of the path of the blow (either by side stepping or by stepping into the arc) and left him with no leverage against the already building momentum of the wild haymaker. 4.) The Follow Through This image makes it obvious that had Mr. Danzig taken evasive maneuvers, he could have most likely incapacitated NSK with NSK's own force. What we see here is Danzig dropping to the floor followed by NSK being extremely unstable in the follow through of his haymaker. This exhibits an extreme lack of control by NSK, leading one to conclude that this punch was an all or nothing "One Hitter Quitter." The fact that NSK was nearly on the floor with no offensive contact by Mr. Danzig shows that a simple Aikido-like sidestep by Mr. Danzig probably would have been enough to give him the upper hand over NSK. On a side note, the throwing of a wild haymaker by NSK also shows a real lack of tactics on his part, most likely resulting from a lack of true fighting training as well. While it was successful in this situation, such a wild, uncontrolled swing with such a wide arc is an extremely risky maneuver, more suited for a knockout blow on a dazed opponent than a blow towards a fresh one.

	I agree that Danny from NSK complaining to Danzig about the set times is as effective as me complaining to JACK that my Jumbo Jack was cold. But Danzig way over-reacated I have seen Danny at shows and I can tell you that he is always one of the 3 biggest people in a packed room. I never thought to call him fat either since he does look very solid upclose. Also, as mentioned, they drove 6 hours to play this show (distance between Phoenix and Tuba City). So, IMO as a person with music promotion experience, that does not count as them being a local band that was just put on the bill to keep the stage warm. They were there for a reason. They were invited to play and were gauranteed something like 500 bucks (local bands in Phoenix rarely get paid for opening for national acts). The promoter could of hired a band with less distance to travel and not even paid them, but he hired NSK because they have a strong following in the Flagstaff and Nothern Arizona area. Consider that along with Danzig decreasing popularity and it's hard for me to agree with the argument that "no one was there to see North Side Kings". One of the worst habits that small promoters do is hire more and more bands to open if he/she feels that the main act won't draw well on it's own.

However, i'm sure that telling danny to distance himself would have been sufficent, because if danny didn't, danny'd be at fault. I've heard one or two danzig kicks some ass stories, and you can tell that the old man really didnt want to fight. 	I 've never heard of The North Side Kings. And i've been a fan of Danzig since I was a wee fucker in highschool. I've never met Glen Danzig in person, and i'll bet my bank account that at least HALF of you who have posted have never met him neither. 	From what I saw on the video, Danzig got hit close to the ear. That will knock anyone out. Absolutely anyone. Don't even try to argue. A malnourished 6 year old who pops your ear as hard as they can is going to knock you off balance. When a blow to the head is suffered, the sudden, involuntary movement of the jaw can cause the teeth to cut the lips or bite the tongue. These impromptu confrontation, uncertain half-fight things things are always decided by who can get a punch in before security breaks it up and if Glenn had chosen to deck Danny instead of simply pushing him, it would inarguably had been Danny on the floor. Bleeding and stunned. Possibly even dead as, when it comes right down to it, Glenn's arms pack much more power that his jaw and neck muscles. 	I don't know why everyone else is saying "Danzig deserved it, he's a pussy" or "Danzig's an arrogant jerk." The fact is, this guy was one of the original punks. He did what he wanted even though it wasn't normal, and like most punks of the time, he was a jerk. Some bands at the time (like GG Allin and the Scumfucs) threw blood, shit, and any other things at the audience, fought, and drank. Sure, Danzig has turned into a much bigger jerk and he should realize that he's 50 years old and 5 feet tall, so starting a fight with guys that are twice his size isn't smart, but the guy's a legend. 	I just watched the video on youtube and didn't relish seeing Glenn get knocked out like many of those who wrote in the previous posts. This video footage is now about 6 years old. I'm not sure if Glenn learned any lessons from that incident. But given the attitude this guy's had going back decades, it's hard to imagine much has changed. He's now in his mid 50s and needs to chill out if he already hasn't done so. It's really sad to see someone so lost, especially when they have so much talent. What he needs to do is give up all this dark stuff and use his talents to be more creative in a positive way. He needs to start with praying to God and accepting Christ into his life. If he does that, he'll find his life only getting better and probably find himself getting along with people much better. God bless those who humble themselves before God.
