BODY COUNT Guitarist Passes Away

BODY COUNT guitarist D-Roc (real name Dennis Miles) passed away Tuesday morning (August 17) at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, California after a battle with mycosis fungoides, which attacks the lymph nodes and the skin. The band will reportedly go ahead with their previously announced appearances in Boston and New York with substitute guitarist Bendrix Williams (MACY GRAY, PITCH BLACK).
BODY COUNT, the metal/punk band fronted by legendary rapper Ice T, recently announced plans to record their first album in seven years, tentatively titled "Murder for Hire".
The group, whose previous drummer Beatmaster V died of leukemia and bassist Mooseman was killed in a drive-by shooting in South Central Los Angeles, had been inactive for several years following the release of 1997's "Violent Demise: Last Days".
BODY COUNT were the focus of national media attention with their controversial song "Cop Killer", which was included on the group's self-titled debut in 1991.

considering the name of the band, don't think i would want to be auditioning for this band any time real soon.
Even though i do not like rap music, i have the cop killer cd and it is actually pretty good.

taht lives up to its name. I alway thought they were pretty decent. I met Ice T at Mil. Metalfest a long time ago. Seems like a very cool, down to earth individual.

See, I forgot to mention Body Count as another pioneer of rap-influenced metal (what some of you morons call nu-metal), and while I'm at it, let's throw in Biohazard and again, Infectious Grooves, featuring ex-S.T. and ex-Ozzy, and new Metallica bassist.

It's a documentary on the Annual Pimp convention. It is funny as hell, very high on the unintentional humor scale. It looks like something straight out of I'm Gonna Git you Sucka, Neon Green Pimp suits, huge fur hats, and jewelry gaudy enough to shock Victoria Gotti. In it Ice T talks about his days of pimping and selling submachine guns and rocket launchers. It's fucking funny man.

...is not that there's anything the matter with combining two kinds of music: THAT'S been going on as long as music has. The problem is that it's SHITTY rapping combined with LAME hard rock ("metal" isn't even the right word).
As a few people mentioned above, bands like Body Count, Infectious Grooves, ST, Anthrax, Faith No More, Living Colour would sometimes or often combine rapping with hard rock or metal, often with very good results. Again, the problem isn't combining music or "musical purity" or any such shit, it's just low musical quality, period.
Anyway, sorry to hear that BC's name has become a self-fulfilling prophecy! Hey, Lynyrd Skynyrd has 5 dead members, but they've been playing on and off since '65, so they have a better excuse.

i too will break out my Body Count CASSETTES of all things, play and drink. RIP for sure.
on a light note, Ernie C and Ice T should partake in a murder/suicide and make it a clean sweep....i would listen to a band nonstop for a week if the whole recording band was dead.

...I remember when the whole "Cop Killer" controversy was going on, and they had just pulled it from the album. I was at Lollapalooza that summer and Soundgarden came out and did Cop Killer as an encore. Truly a great rock 'n roll moment.
