MARILYN MANSON Talks About The Shocking '(s)Aint' Video - Sep. 26, 2004
MARILYN MANSON recently spoke to the Edmonton Sun about his work with Asia Argento — the daughter of Italian horror director Dario Argento — on her film "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things", which recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.

"It's an ensemble cast," said Manson. "So I guess everybody had sort of a small part. Mine's kind of the worst one at the end, where I play a confused, drunken white-trash guy who mistakes his girlfriend's son for her because he's sexually confused and dresses up in her Victoria's Secret mail-order underwear, and it's a really disturbing scene."

Manson liked working so much with Argento — best known in the mainstream for her starring role in the 2002 Vin Diesel film "XXX" — that she directed the video for the bonus song "(s)Aint" on the limited edition DVD version of his greatest hits album, "Lest We Forget", due on Tuesday (Sept. 28).

"This video is probably best unrated 'cause I don't think it would fall under an R-rating," said Manson.

"And I wasn't trying to be graphic or shocking. But the song '(s)Aint' was I wanted to do something that someone had never seen from me. Just me at my worst. No makeup — not shaven. Just almost like 'Leaving Las Vegas'. Just the deepest, deepest depression — it's where I was. I was trying to recreate how I felt, prior to me just relaxing and taking it easy and not stressing about work so much. And just winding down off of being on tour for eight months. You become oversaturated with energy and drugs and alcohol, everything possible.

"The video just takes you through pieces of my life that stood out," Manson continued. "The loneliness, the self-hatred, self-destructive, I-can't-anyone-I-know-on-the-phone-type of feeling. So there's a series of people I don't know — the comfort of strangers. But it just becomes excessive self-destruction, inhaling pain slowly, until it manifests in a waterfall of nosebleeds, self-mutilation and three-way sex scenes with men, and stuff like that."

What this so-called "musician" and "artist" bases his career off of. He lacks musical ability, so he relies on the shock value in order to make a name for himself.

uhm...he lacks musical ability?
hahaha, how ignorrant are you?
He uses all the tricks in the books to gain attention yes, but he's also a guy who can make good music. I'm no fan, but even I realize this.

Pay no mind to the feeble minded half-wit (Golgotha), they can't even correctly spell the words ("um" and/or "ignorant") in their comeback insult right, when trying to insult guys like me and you.

The next thing he'll say is that we're close-minded and that we like cookie monster music, just like the rest of the sheep stereotype Marilyn Manson fans. Go ahead, AMUSE ME.

Whether he wrote the music or not, he's good musically. I'm not a fan, but the few songs that I do like remind me of White Zombie's Astro Creep: 2000, which is a good thing.

As far as shock value goes, this guy's pretty much a joke. He's an intelligent businessman: he knows what makes the mainstream take notice, and he does it. And he's famous because of it. It's not like he's the first person to become famous in the mass media because of his/her shock value... Madonna, Ozzy, Alice Cooper, etc.

the reason Manson might remind you of Zombie is because he, and Zombie both used Charlie Clouser to do their sampling/programming.

He's not a revolutionary song-writer or anything, but his songs do kick serious ass and his lyrics and live performance are just amazing. His music also helped me get into the heavier shit as well, along with Korn. Before that the only thing I really listened to that wasn't on my radio station was Slipknot.

Maybe everyone is thinking Marilyn Manson is a joke because the whole thing has always been a joke; a parody of American celebrity and the media portrayal thereof. Just the name "Marilyn Manson" should really have clued everyone in to what this guy was about. Once you're aware of this, it becomes easy to laugh at the die-hard fans who go as far as to dress up like Manson and it becomes even easier to laugh at the people who get really pissed off about the whole thing. It's like someone saying Spinal Tap sucks- that's how ridiculous it is. It's a lot more subtle than Spinal Tap, and the music is by no means without artistic merit (quite the opposite), but look closely and see that it's a clever satire.
Oh yeah, and I'd never ever call it anything near metal. So why's it reported on here?

VARG is xenophobe and/or against gays... non-tolerant?

VARG doesn't read. MM said in an earlier interview that he asked whoever produced the movie to write the dirtiest scenario to date. The role was given to MM and not the other way around. It's TV. It's not REAL.

That always suprises me. I live in Edmonton. Alberta hates heavy metal music. Kind of the opposite now as was in the 1980s. In teh 80s the west was big for heavy metal now it's the east. Oh well. I hate the Canadian music scence all country shit. Europe has the best bands.
