Published Reports Offer Conflicting Accounts Of VINNIE PAUL's Condition

Contradicting some of the other published eyewitness accounts, Fort Worth Star Telegram is reporting that DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul was also shot in the incident Wednesday night when a gunman ran onstage at a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub and killed Paul's brother, DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell. A woman who answered the phone at Dimebag Darrell's home in Dalworthington Gardens late Wednesday said the family was waiting for official confirmation of the brothers' conditions, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram. A witness told The Associated Press that the gunman sought out Dimebag Darrell, 38, and shot him five or six times at close range. The gunman also shot a bouncer who pulled him off the musician, the AP reported. Gary Stinnett, who got to know Dimebag Darrell while working at radio station 93.3 The Bone in 2002 and 2003, said he heard about the shooting when one of the band's road crew members called his brother from the club. "He said the police were keeping everyone backstage and that they were still trying to figure out who else was shot," said Stinnett, who now manages a band. "He said some guy just jumped on the stage and [started] shooting at the band and that Darrell was killed." Stinnett said he had just seen DAMAGEPLAN perform Nov. 4 at the Ridglea Theater. He said Darrell Abbott's death is going to devastate rock music lovers in Texas. "Every local band in Dallas-Fort Worth looked up to those guys," Stinnett said. "He was huge."

whoever the killer was, one cannot help wondering if the recent mudslinging between the ex-pantera members have contributed. sure, no sane person would actually go and shoot someone because phil said in interviews that he wanted their ass kicked - but for a psycho that's already unbalanced, it might be a trigger.

alot of peiople will be slagging Phil for his remarks and actions latley, I would bet my house that he is fucking recked right about now. Just imagine yourself in his shoes, couldnt you even lift your head to Vinnie ever again.

I'm from Columbus, OH and currently watching the news (News Channel 4) and they say 5 dead and 2 wounded. The wounded were taken to Riverside Hospital (who is keeping tight-lipped) and the 5 dead still remain inside Alrosa for investigation. The gunman also took a hostage which my guess was released after the officer took the gunman down. Yes, 2 members of the band were murdered and yes one of them sadly was DB who was shot point blank multiple times in which they were quick to confirm but it's frustrating when they can't release anymore details about the victims. This is so horrible.. I'm at loss for words. I will never understand as to why the security wasn't enforced at the Alrosa.

There's enough negative shit going on without people coming up with crazy theories like Phil Anselmo being present or responsible...
I bet Phil feels like crap right now, and I don't believe for a minute that he had anything to do with last nights events, or that he was even at the venue.
Some bitter Pantera fan probably thought he was doing the right thing after Phil's comments in Metal Hammer that 'Dimebag deserves a severe beating'
My sincere condolences to the families and friends of those that have passed on and to all those at the venue.

my heart goes out to everyone who is affected by this, and i know that's a shitload of people. dimebag darrell was one of the greatest guitarists ever in any genre, and from my own eyes, which is what i judge my opinions based on, he was one of the coolest, best people on the planet. i never met him. but based on the numerous times i saw them and all the home videos, i can say that he was truly a great person and it is such a tradegy that he is gone. i sincerely hope that the damage has been done and nothing else will happen related to this.

Dime was one of the guys who kept metal alive in the 90's, the king of crunch, heavy as fuck and the guy that kept me in the game when all my other favorite bands were making crappy albums. I never even knew how important the guy was until tonight...a giant, say what you will of Pantera but no one can take away from Dimebag's talent.................FUCK THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!

I hope Vinnie's okay, because, as someone already said... No one deserves to lose 2 sons. This is just awful... And as far as Phil Anselmo goes... I seriously doubt that even he would be involved in something like this. No matter what he says in interviews. And to whoever suggested making guns illegal; Guns are like Drugs; If you criminalize them people who want them will just find other ways to get them. But I do understand why you'd suggest it. It would make sense, but I'm afraid it wouldn't do much good against the real EXTREME psychos like that guy.
