DAVE MUSTAINE On DIMEBAG DARRELL: 'You Will Be Missed'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement regarding the death of DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell:
"There is nothing unique or clever to this post, and what I want to say has no doubt already been said throughout the metal community, by countless others whom were more closer to Darrell than me by now.
"However, knowing he was murdered tonight, I wish to thank and remember Darrell for his amazing life and the gift that he shared with me and so many other fortunates.
"I pray for Darrell's family and friends; specifically for their healing, their peace, and their understanding of this tragedy in this time of need.
"I send my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Abbott family, to Darrell's friends, and to the fantastic PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN fans around the world.
"We must never forget his life, and his gifts, his genius, his terrific personallity, and the legacy he left behind to remember him by.
"Darrell, I will see you in heaven and I, like so many more, love you brother.
"You will be missed."

how I am feeling right now. The guy was a legend, and he did what he loved. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to meet Damageplan shortly before their album came out. Dime and Vinnie were all about the fans, and they took time to talk to us like we had been friends forever. I have met other bands that have the "rock star" attitude, but these guys were as down to earth as it gets. I take refuge in the fact that he got to do alot of things in his lifetime, and all of the people he has touched in one way or another will miss him always. He had his own unique style, he was truly somebody who loved music. This will be a sad day to remember, all of the music we will never get a chance to hear. Atleast we have the music he left behind that will be listened to for generations to come. RIP brother, you will be missed more than you will ever know.

granted i never got into pantera or damageplan or any of the other offshoots they formed but meaningless killings puts an unwanted scar on the metal community. This incident will have many many after effects on all of us. It is not fair that someone had to die, and regardless of music taste it shouldn't have been darrell

At the Starland Ballroom in NJ. Before Damageplan took the stage Dime was on the side of the stage talking with me and some other fans. He passed a drink to one fan and seemed like such a great guy. I am deeply saddened by these events and I am sure this has already been posted somewhere on this site but I will say it as well. This fuckin country has a gun problem and it needs attention now! I love the USA but I have often contemplated moving elsewhere to get away from the violence in this country. RIP Dime I will always be a big fan.....this is just senseless

I went to bed last night, all happy and wake up this morning and see all of this!! It's a shock, really. I'm not the greatest Pantera or Damage plan fan but i'm speechless about this. You never wish death to anybody and this should be a lesson for all the retards here wishing a musician's death. Someone that they don't even know.

I just feel so sorry for vinnie. That is the single worst thing I could ever imagine going through. You don't normally see brother that close for so long in their lives. They truly shared so much, together for 38 years. And to see you own brother, whom you have so many memories with, shot dead doing something he loved. I mean, from the reports I heard he was shot 4-6 times in the head.. Including exit wounds thats 8-12 holes in his head.. Seeing your brother go down like that, when only minutes ago they would have been backstage having a drink or two and telling a few jokes or whatever.... That would be be absolutely crippling.

I don't understand it. They say two members of the band were killed, but they will only mention Dimebag. I would hope that the report is probably false on the second band member being killed. So whether the other member was killed or not, this is bad journalism.

www.cnn.com states that 4 people were killed. Dimebag, two audience members, and the shooter, but then goes on to say that the name of the other band member that was killed has not been released. I fear that it's Vinnie because of the line where it says that Vinnie fell back. I'm hoping this is not true, but we'll find out soon enough. I could hardly bring myself into work today. I was a fan from the first time I saw this band in Boston and they were opening for Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies and I was instantly attracted to their music and attitude. This was on the Cowboys tour and I caught them 1 other time in CT. and saw them everytime they came to this area. Dime will truly be missed.

It looks like someone tipped off a reporter about the assassin yelling something to Darrell about breaking up Pantera, and now the media is using that as their hookline. Turns my stomach, and I somehow figured they'd latch on to that rumor.
To Dave Mustaine, i've said harsh things about him before, but I believe he feels as much pain as anyone over this, and I give him props on his simple, and heartfelt post. This sucks so much.

This really sucks. I remember seeing Pantera play when they opened up for Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus and I knew these guys were awesome, especially Dimebag. It is just a shame that our metal community has lost a another great one. These acts of violence must stop. Where was security when this ass got inside the club? Why did they not check everyone out? I woke up and heard the awful news. Sad , tragic. It was bad enough that 5 people died. I understand from the news, that if the police arrived a little later there could have been many more who could have lost their lives. Another member of Damageplan was shot as well,from news reports. I have to say this is one of the saddest days I can remember. I listened to Pantera so much as a teenager and i'm in complete shock. My heart goes out to Dimebag and his brother Vinnie and the entire Abbott family. My heart also goes out to the remaining members of DamagePlan who are left with nothing from this tragedy. What a senseless act, i'm so depressed right now. Dimebag was a legend, and will always be remembered that way.

I saw Pantera back in the day after Reinventing the steel came out. They were on tour with Static-X, Skrape, Morbid Angel andSlayer. Amamzing show. Dime has been an inspiration ever since. I never got the honor of meeting him though wich I am extremely sad to say. But he is in a good place, we will all meet him one day...

WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID OR WRITTEN. THIS IS EXTREMELY SAD FOR MR. ABBOTT AND THE OTHERS KILLED. ALLTHE NICE THINGS BEING SAID BY THE METAL WORLD AND COMMUNITY ONLY ECHO HOW DISTURBING THIS IS.I'VE HUGNOUT WITH DARRELL IN THE PAST AND HE WAS MEGA-COOL. THIS IS A BLACK MARK NOT ONLY ON THE METAL COMMUNITY(WHICH IS GOING TO HAPPEN) BUT OUR SOCIETY AS WELL. THERE ARE A LOT OF CRAZED SICKOS RUNNING ABOUT. WHAT A SHAME. AND THIS IS A YEAR OR SO AFTER THAT FIRE TRAGEDY AT THE GREAT WHITE SHOW. AND LAST WEEK THE STABBING AT THE CRADLE SHOW. IT JUST ISN'T SAFE ANYWHERE THESE DAYS.
I NEVER MINDED BEING CHECKED FOR METAL/WEAPONS AND IT SHOULD BE NOW ALMOST MANDATORY AT ANY PUBLIC EVENT. OF COURSE, WE MIGHT NEED MORE DETAILS - BUT WITH THE SOB DEAD- WE MIGHT NOT GET ALL OF THE ANSWERS. TO DAVE MUSTAINE-EXTREMELY KIND WORDS AND EXPRESSED WITH GREAT FEELING AND EMOTION. THANKS. ALSO TO THE OTHERS WHO KNEW HIM WELL AND ARE SADDENED. THANKS

my friend sent me a link to one of these stories last night and said that I would freak out, i had no way of being prepared for what i read, Dimebag has been my biggest hero since Jr High, it's hard to believe that someone could kill some one has easy going and laidback as Dimebag, everyone that i have met that has talked to him told me the same thing, he's the coolest motherfucker on the planet, I never got to see Pantera, but i did see Damageplan twice this year and both shows were the most fun i've had in a really long time. It's really weird feeling almost crying for the death of someone that you never knew, sorry if thsi doesn't go together coherently, it's just hard ot think straight right now. May you rock on forever wherever you are RIP Dime

I never really cared for Pantera or any of the offshoots from it (and probably never will), but this is really horrible news. I can't even coherently begin to bring up my thoughts at the moment, but the metal community lost a member who's influenced a lot of young punks to drop the air guitar and have a crack at a real one. If Vinnie's okay at the moment, he 's lost his brother and I know he'll need all the encouragement to cope with that loss. This entire deal is fucked.
With the depressing state the world is in currently, can't you at least be able to go catch a show and forget about things for a bit? Fucked, fucked, fucked.
It's all fun until somebody loses an eye or their life. Hopefully all these public bitching and grudges in the metal community will come to an end. The bands always work out their differences and reunite while the idiot fans take these matters seriously as if they're the one being slighted.
Rest in peace Darrel Abbott. You weren't a metal hero to me or anything, but just another joe who deserved to live a full life, get old and die in their sleep. I don't pray much but I hope his family, especially Vinnie manages to cope with this loss. I hope it also manages to make Phil Anselmo shut his mouth.
His asinine words are definitely not needed on this matter.

A local radio station here is talking all about it. One of the DJs was there last night. He said that Vinnie Paul did NOT get shot. Vinnie was escorted to safety. The DJ said that he was in the same secure room (a kitchen apparently) as Vinnie, so he can confirm that no harm befell him. He was not by the stage when all this went down, so he does not know who else, if anyone, from the band was shot. He did say that Damageplan's tour manager was shot in the shoulder, but he will be fine. He must be one of the two people being treated at a hospital.
On an unrelated note, this is my first ever post here, and it's sad that this is the article I'm commenting on.
I almost went to the show last night, and would have, in fact, if it had been on a Friday or Saturday. I've been to the Alrosa Villa many times (the last time was this spring to see Exodus) and have never once felt unsafe there (except for the time some asshole tried to fight me at an Overkill show). I hope that the Alrosa does not close down because of this.
Lastly, and most importantly, RIP Dimebag!!!! Your music will live on forever, and I am so ashamed that you died in my hometown.

No comments from Phil because, I imagine, this would be a tough thing for him. No matter how big his ego might be, he was in a band with this guy for over a decade. There was a lot of shit slinging in the past couple years, and now Phil can't go back and fix it with Dimebag. That's fucking heavy burden to carry. Besides, once he makes a statement, half the people on this board will criticize it anyway.
No comments from Rex yet, either, as far as I know

could come up in the club with a gun? Every show i went here (in Québec), they always check every single person if they hide weapons. The security at this show was fucked-up and it's frightening to think that the audience and the band members and crew are not safe in those places.
As for people against gun control, there's no way you can tell if this guy was a criminal. Maybe he was just schizophrenic and maybe he had easy access to a gun. If he had not, he wouldn't have the opportunity to kill someone so easily. All i say here is suppositions but easy access to guns is wrong, just plain wrong.

No, my friend, Dave didn't ttke words out of a book. They came right from the heart. Do you think that these guys are just people in the biz who know each other in passing??? No, they are actually friends. I can tell you that Dave is very upset by these events and can you imagine other muscians thoughts on upcoming show dates and having to get on stage after this?
I think that many of us are very upset right now and maybe quick to say things that are not needed.
Like Ty Longey.....30 seconds into the first song and gone.

and killed Dime like they said on some news, this should silence some shit talker about other bands. Can you imagine a disturbed Metallica fan wanting to shoot Dave Mustaine because of his incessant bitching about Metallica, or Kerry King, Lars Ulrich. There's a lot of mentally sick people living free in society who can do a lot of damage. If the guy really said "You broke up Pantera" and shot Dimebag, it could happen to any other musicians. If it's a drug deal that turned wrong, it's another story.

I can't help but feel sympathy for all the family and friends and fans of the fallen. It reminds me of the early demise of many other musicians:
1. James Marshall Hendrix
2. Janis Joplin
3. Jim Morrison
4. John Lennon (a real tragedy; because, like the recently deceased Mr. D. Abbott, he was assassinated by some disgruntled "human".
Than I think of 1982 when lead guitarist Randy Rhodes (excuse spelling) died in an unfortunate plane crash.
Than, more personal to me, the death of Cliff Burton in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986. Cliff was such an awesome metal bassist onstage and so kind to me during our private conversations.
Then, I think of February 2003 with the ultimate death of many metal fans and musician victims during the start of the first song "Desert Moon" by Great White.
So, I must publish here a poem I wrote after the death of one of my own loved one's who died by gunfire:
FOR WHEN MY LIFE IS EXTINGUISHED ,
MY DEATH SHALL BE ILLUMINATED.

I am deeply saddened by this killing to the point of tears. Dimebag was a role model to guitarists world wide. From what I hear he was a genuine nice guy who cared for his fans. I will sadly miss him. I hope and pray he made it to heaven to join the likes of Randy Rhoads. God bless you Dimebag.
Also big thanks to Dave Mustaine for his kind words and prayers. And thanks too to Dave Mustaine for making a decision to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and to make it known to us all that he believes in the one true God.
To the dirty motherfucker who shot dead Dimebag. I hope you burn in hell and are endlessly tormented for eternity by the devil and his demons in hell. Sucked in to be you, you piece of shit.
RIP Dimebag, forever you will live on. You have touched my life and I will hopefully one day be with you in heaven and maybe even get a quick guitar lesson off of you. You rock man. \m/

Patrick is just fine, physically. The Halford band manager made a post on the official Halford board saying that Pat was not harmed. Thank God for that, at least.
I lost touch with Pantera around THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL. It's not that I started hating their music, I just lost interest. That said, I'll always have a place in my heart for Phil, Dimebag, Rex, and Vinny, as I used to blast their music a lot during my early highschool years. This murder of Dimebag is one of the saddest and most shocking things I have ever heard. He was a wonderful and innovative guitar who inspired thousands, perhaps millions, of other guitarists, and he will be missed. I am almost tearing up as I type this, as I still can't believe what has happened. My condolences to Vinny (I hope he's OK), the rest of the Abbott family and Dime's loved ones, Bobzilla (I hope he's OK too), Pat, Rex, Phil, and to all the friends and family of Dime and all of the other victims not mentioned.
If you're inclined to smoke weed and drink a little al-kee-hall, I suggest you smoke a few joints and smile a little black tooth grin tonight while blasting Vulgar Display Of Power.
