SUPERJOINT RITUAL Bassist: PHILIP ANSELMO Is In A 'State Of Shock'
- Dec. 9, 2004
|
|
|
SUPERJOINT RITUAL bassist Hank Williams III has posted the following message regarding the death of DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell:
"It just ain't fuckin right... Alcohol should have killed Dime, not a fuckin piece of shit worthless fuck with a gun trying to recreate the John Lennon's killing... This happened on the same day, if you didnt know... Dime will never die EVER!!! His style of guitar playing took metal to a whole new chapter in metal history.
"For those of us that were lucky enough to be around Dime as a person... or see him jam in no matter what band it was, you know he liked to have a good time... In his honor, crank up his fuckin music and get motherfuckin wasted on whiskey!!!!!!!
"And no matter what was said with all the shit talking between SUPERJOINT RITUAL and DAMAGEPLAN, that's all it was, nothing but talk!! If we had ever been in the same room together as both bands, it would have been cool… Kinda like seeing 'ole family....
"I'm sure there will be plenty of new rumors surfacing.....And fingers pointing at people to blame... But Philip [Anselmo, ex-PANTERA] and the rest of SUPERJOINT RITUAL are in a state of shock and blown away by this tragedy! We do not take this shit lightly... What this kid did is so fucked up its not even conceivable. May you burn in the hottest corners of hell, you pistol-packin' pussyfuck...
"R.I.P Dimebag. You rocked harder than you will ever know!!!!"

I think Phil Anselmo himself should have spoken publicly by now. At least in a statement.
I can't even concieve the degree of emotions he must be feeling at this hour. The fact that he and Dime were so publicly at odds over what happened to Pantera, and the fact that if rumours are true, the shooter killed Dime over the SJR/Pantera dispute. He killed Dime over the fact that Phil was no longer in Pantera. I don't know wether to believe that or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Phillip Anselmo has become a very wealthy man, not to mention one of the key figues in the metal world he loves so much. He owes the majority of his success to his relationship with Darrell Abbott.
I just think that Phil's words could console the metal community right now -wether it's Pantera fans, Damageplan, Superjoint, whomever. To hear from Phil what we heard from Hank III is what I expected from Phil by now.
I still have yet to hear any public comment from Rex either, but Phil is the one who should have made a statement by now.
I hope Rex, Phil and Vinne Paul reunite in Dallas this weekend. It 's time to put all the ugliness behind them, and mourn as what they've always said they are - a family.

It doesn't matter who is saying it, what band they liked or didn't like, who cares if you don't even listen to metal, the fact that a passionate artist was so violently murdered while performing his craft is something I will never be able to comprehend. Then you take the fact that it's fucking DIMEBAG and I feel as if I have lost all hope in humanity. There is no explanation and I agree the only thing one can do is never let the legend die, Blast the fucking shit out of Pantera and DamagePlan either or both, Smoke some shit to your head and have a drink on the man. It's just shit talking, everyone does it at some point in their lives, you gotta remember that Phil and Dime spent a good 12 years or so in a band together, these guys new each other inside out, which will outweigh anything they have said in the past couple of years - and don't forget the great ways the media have of twisting shit around.
I've felt pretty shit towards Phil in the past for some of the things he's said about Pantera, but right now is not the time to talk any shit whatsoever, he's gonna be feeling bad enough as it is.

Metal will definitely take a beating over this. When something bad happens in the world of metal, it always comes down to the music. Not the fact that there are very sick and disturbed people out there. "Dimebag" was one of the best, if not the best, guitarist of the past 20 years. Innovative and imaginative are just two words to describe his talent. The man could shred. I started listening to Pantera many years ago. I gave Damageplan a listen to when it first came out because of Dimebag's playing. I myself play guitar and could only hope to be half as good as DD.
RIP Dimebag - You will be missed!!

DIME was a good fuckin person who loved the fans and loved making music. I have many killer memories of live shows and just listening to him with Pantera(fucking, smoking, drinking, and just jamming). The man had a talent that should be recognized and respected. Rest in Peace Dime. All my prayers for the family and friends and fans. The music will live on and we should be gratefull for that. Thank you Dime for the memories. Rest in Peace buddy.

He is mourning more than likely at this time.
1.This was his friend for many years and some of you act like he should just come out and share ALL his mixed emotions right now? Imagine how Phillip must feel about not patching things up and now never able to get the chance too. Noone owes anyone anything right now this is the family and friends time for mourning as well as fans but noone owes us anything right now.
2.Think about how Vinnie must feel right now, and how hard he worked with his brother only for some psycho piece of shit to kill him right in front before his eyes. Not only destroying thier dream but in the process taking him away from everyone that loved him.
3. Think about Dimes kids and wife and know that he will be missed not only as being a guitar god but a father a husband and an all around cool guy. Think how they must feel this close to the already deppressing holidays, think of how his kids will not get to wake up on christmas and enjoy it with thier father.
4.Think about the two fans that also died and the security gaurd that was killed the tech that was severly wounded. Think how thier families feel right now.
~Then ask yoursleves how selfish you are acting DEMANDING someone give an interview on this MORE THAN TRAGIC EVENT.~
My condolences to everyone in the friend/family/fan circle and to the whole metal community.

Here's how I see it. I have 4 brothers. I can call each and every one of them a stupid motherfucker. No one else can. I would fight for each and every one of them too. I think it's the same with these guys. Sure, they talked some pretty bad shit, but brothers do that...and they were brothers, even though not "related". Deep down, both of them never let go of that fact. Just my theory.
Damn. I found out about this at 8:00 this morning, and it's not getting any better. Pantera's music meant the fucking world to me at times. I'm going to miss you, Dime.

i was fortunate enough to see Pantera perform 3 times. when things like this happen it makes you realize how important people in your life are. regardless of the shit bands talk about each other, we all have a special bond. that which is METAL! we are all brothers of a tight knit community. regardless if you like damageplan, slayer, megadeth are whoever, we are in this family together. and it is terrible that we have lost a fine metal musician/ person. You all know Phil loves to talk shit whenver he can, he has done it before about Metallica and recently he did it with Dime and Vinnie. I know that right now, Phil, Vinnie and Rex are all mourning the loss of a great friend and talented musician. I have been mouring all day, still trying to grasp the fact that my idol has been murdered. I too wish the fans could have gotten their hands on the pussy that did this. We would tear him apart. Its going to take a long time for the metal scene and its fans to get over this tragedy. I still can't believe this happened. He will be remember, he will be missed.

dude, i've never had a beef between any or taken any side in the Superjoint Ritual/Damageplan fued at any point before this horrific tradegy. i've loved the music of both sides as well as Down. i've always loved both sides and loved ALL the music and never taken a side or spoken ill-will of either side. this is the most sickest moment in metal history since Cliff Burton or Randy Rhodes or whomever you choose to put before today. i've hated the rivalry and bitterness between all former Pantera members and such. let's just remember that Vinnie must be feeling the most awful of anyone on Earth right now. i cannot express how awful it must be for him and how much everyone (who's Chirstian) 's prayer must count right now. i have nothing but absolute love for his family right now, and pity for the fued that's been going on between Phil and them leading up to this horrific God-awful shit. i pray for Phil and the pain he must feel in light of all of this, ironic that the hate he felt just a week or so ago about Dime. i feel for Phil and how awful he must feel right now!
i honestly don't know what to say. God bless Dime, i surely hope he's at peace up in the sky right now, and that someday when it's my time i'll be able to be there and he'll be there as well!!!!!

Its not like he had cancer, and Phil had to time to assess the whole situation. If you were in a band with a guy for over a decade and then spent the last couple years fighting, and suddenly that guy is murdered, would you be ready to just come out an make a statement to satisfy a bunch of internet geeks who take your battles so personally like they were involved themselves? I have been a fan of Pantera since 1990, I've seen them 13 times (nice round number). Met them twice and have nothing bad to say about either time, IT WAS MEMORABLE. Dime will be missed by many and I do believe that there has to be a heart in that unscarred chest of Phil's. Phil-dude, what are your thoughts?
As you have screamed in vain about the Abbott brothers, how does it feel to know that you will never be able to truly tell Dime how you felt? Arrogance only leads you so far and it's usually into damnable stagnation which equals death. You have let your senses run away from you. You have idolized a needle over what is most important = Your life and what your words have meant to so many. Do you know how hard it is to listen to a fucking hypocrite? Strength Beyond Strength... REMEMBER!!!
Don't get me wrong!!! I love Pantera 1st... Damageplan 2nd... and Superjoint hasn't made it on to the list. It is damnably frustrating hearing 2 seperate bands that represent Pantera. Both Damageplan and SJR carry the weight of Pantera on their shoulders and now it will never be the same.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the fans of all 3 bands, Vinnie and the rest of the Abbott Family... This is a heartbreaking moment in Rock n' FUCKING Roll history.
RIP-Dimebag... we will be missed by many.

I agree old age should have killed Dime not booze. thats a poser statement Hank the III. People will grieve in their own ways. Frankly everyone coming together and leaving their opinions here on Blabbermouth is one of the best way to mourn and relieve the sadness. I remember the first time I tried to see Pantera in Shreveport. It was cancelled and a riot unsued which I got caught in the middle of. That was '94 I believe with Sepultura. It was a real drag when my bros broke away and got autographs on their tickets by hopping a fence and getting the guys attention through the window. And I finally got a break in '02 when the Extreme Steel tour came through Little Rock with Morbid Angel, Skrape, Static-X, Slayer, and headliners Panfuckintera. I remember well the diamond plate steel Washburn as well as Phil not knowing whether they had ever performed in Little Rock. I didn't focus on Rex too much (speaking of focus, what the hell HAS he been focusing on before all this insanity?), though I got no beef with him. I swore earlier that I wasn't going to post anything anywhere about all this but......I guess I had some memories I figured might be worth sharing.

that this brings the metal community closer together, and make people realize most of the petty shit we argue about is petty little shit that ain't worth the wasted energy. Of course in reality it won't happen, but it sure is a nice thought. I'd love to see Phil respond as a complete gentleman, like I know he is very capable of. I know the love is there & it's stronger than ANY disagreements they may have had in the past. All we can hope for is that something good comes out of this, someway, somehow, that will be a refllection of everything Dimebag stood for & was all about.
R.I.P. Dimebag & all the family & friends of everyone killed by this fucking moron.

I'm not suprized Phil hasn't spoken yet, I couldn't imagine how it would feel to hear someone died and the last thing you did was bash them.
I'm sure Phil really didn't hate Dime or anyone else, it was just talk. I hope everyone gets together and comforts each other.

Nobody deserves this at all. I agree that when Phil is ready to talk he will talk. Once you form a brotherhood with someone that lasts forever. Yes you have fallouts and arguements but that bond of brotherhood stays together for ever. Thats what Phil and Dime had. As a fan of pantera since 1990 ( damn i was six back then) I was very influenced by Dime and his wonderful playing. SO i am having a drink in your honor, and blasting PANTERA for the nextmonth straight. R.I.P. Dime you will be missed!

Phil probably hates himself for letting his last words to Dime be so bitter and hateful. It'll eat away at him for the rest of his life that he never got to make peace with his now fallen friend.
I never met dimebag, but I met Phil at Ozzfest '04 in nashville. the guy kept telling the people not to ask for pictures but phil allowed them to keep taking them anyway. He kept saying "fuck that guy." I wish I could've gotten my picture taken with Dimebag too... and damn I looked drunk in that cowboy hat... :[

He must be devastated, like all of us right now. They were brothers for over ten years and sometimes brothers fight. The best thing for Phil and Rex to do is to try to comfort Vinnie and family. Then make a publc statement.

Damn, some of y'all are seriously fucking ignorant! I doesn't fucking matter that there has been bad blood between the former members of Pantera...shit like that fucking happens. The bottom line is that all of them shared a bond that will never be replicated. Y'all are demanding that Phil say something...that is so totally unfair that I can't even begin to explain it. If any one of you has lost someone close to you, you would understand that when something like this happens, you can barely grip reality. Despite their problems, Dime & Phil had a bond that no petty arguments would break. They spent a huge chunk of their lives together. I don't give a fuck what your opinion of Phil is, have some fucking consideration! The man needs support right now, as do Vinnie & Rex. Keep your fucking bashing to a minimum, you computer wielding hero-complex fuckbags! Shut the fuck up, Philip will say something when he's good and ready!

To all who are interested there is a guest book on legacy.com that is in remembrance of Darrell Abbott. Here is the link: http://legacy.com/Legacy.asp
I was 17 years old when I 1st had the honor of hearing Pantera, at a high school party in Durham, Connecticut. Out of nowhere this mezmorizing, undeniably brutal riff began blasting through the home stereo system. It was "By Demons Be Driven", and I was absolutley stunned and stopped in my tracks by what I was hearing!! As a matter of fact, I almost dropped my beer on the floor, ha,ha,ha! As I listened to the song unfold and all the band members layering their parts, It was at that very moment that I realized that I wanted to weild the power and passion through my guitar that Dime was able to transduce through his! From that day forward I vowed to myself that I will one day be able to write riffs that carried people like the ones that Dime wrote. Riffs like the ones in: "A New Level," "Becoming," "This Love," "Domination," "Slaughtered", ect.. I had the priviledge of meeting Dime once, and it will always be one of the most remembered days of my life. Darrell has given me a gift that very few people get in this world.... He gave me a vision!!! He opened the door for me to see and hear past the normalcy of most music, and for that I am forever greatful! Thank you for being the baddest motherfucker to ever play the guitar!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe Johnson
