STATIC-X Mourn The Loss Of DIMEBAG DARRELL - Dec. 11, 2004
STATIC-X members Wayne Static and Tripp Eisen have issued separate statements in memory of DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott:

Wayne Static: "It's taken me several days to gather my thoughts so I could make some sort of statement about Dime. This whole thing is so surreal.

"PANTERA changed my life as a musician. Dime has always been my absolute favorite guitarist ever.

"STATIC-X did two tours with PANTERA and they were the most memorable tours of my career. Recently I've been very excited that Dime and Vinnie have carried on with DAMAGEPLAN, and I was looking forward to hearing many more great albums from them in the future.

"The last show STATIC-X played before entering the recording studio was with DAMAGEPLAN in Florida. After the show, Dime and I, along with his awesome wife Rita, hung out all night and did plenty of drinking.

"I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know Dime, along with his bandmates Vinnie, Patrick, and Bobzilla. DAMAGEPLAN, their crew, and their friends are some of the best people I’ve ever met. Dime had a huge heart and a pure honesty that made him very cool and unique. He will be missed by everyone."

Tripp Eisen: "Dimebag's passing has left me stunned. When I think about it throughout the day it hits me like a ton of bricks. The only thing that is justified is that the gunman was shot dead. This horrible event has shaken up all of our worlds.

"My heart goes out to Vinnie Paul and everyone who was close to Dimebag Darrell and the other three who were murdered that night.

"I got to know him in 2001 during the Extreme Steel Tour, and he is a genuine, super-nice guy. Always smiling and in good spirits. Fun to be around. Plus he was a KISS fan, a Dallas Cowboys fan, and fellow right-wing conservative (all things near to my heart). And of course his immense talent that influenced me 12 years ago when I first became a PANTERA fan.

"The final STATIC-X show this year was with DAMAGEPLAN in Orlando, FL (Oct. 2), and it was a pleasure to hang out with those guys for two nights and watch them play.

"Dime will be terribly missed. Hail to a brother of metal, and a super-nice guy. He leaves a musical legacy and his life was an inspiration."

saw the MTV2 thing with a couple of buddies. very surreal and tough to watch. i think it FINALLY has sunk in. much love and really dumb air-guitaring to every video shown, and a round of shots raised during every video's solo. man i am fucked up right now. God bless you Dime. hope you're upstairs jamming with Layne Staley and Bonham right now, that's a beautiful thought right there........

RIP Dime you badass dude!

i know i havent posted anything yet on this but its been really hard on me. Dime and PanterA were the first band i got into heavly. and something like this has truely crushed me. the night and the following day i heard the news i was a zombie. Dime was my hero. he was not only a great guitarist but he was a great man. the tribute video that bryan did made me cry so hard. i really want to watch 3 Vulgar Videos but i doubt i can. it will hurt too much.

i just want to say one more thing. Thank you all you b-mouth posters. i was really worried that there would be the usual b-mouth bashing and hating but for the most part all of you have conducted yourselves so well in this time of pain. even though Dime is no longer with us. all of us are united stronger than ever.

Watch it go.

I was at the Little Rock show on the Extreme Steel Tour with Morbid Angel, Skrape, Static-X, Slayer, and Pantera. I was the only one of all my friends from high school in Louisiana that got to see them live after a failed attempt in '94 or '95 to see them in Shreveport with Type O Negative.

That pic is really neat and probably means a ton to you. I was handed a pic by "Diamond" Darrell the first time I saw Pantera. You really can't put a value on stuff like that.

Miss you Dime.

To all who are interested there is a guest book on legacy.com that is in remembrance of Darrell Abbott.
Here is the link: http://legacy.com/Legacy.asp

I was 17 years old when I 1st had the honor of hearing Pantera, at a high school party in Durham, Connecticut. Out of nowhere this mezmorizing, undeniably brutal riff began blasting through the home stereo system. It was "By Demons Be Driven", and I was absolutley stunned and stopped in my tracks by what I was hearing!! As a matter of fact, I almost dropped my beer on the floor, ha,ha,ha! As I listened to the song unfold and all the band members layering their parts, It was at that very moment that I realized that I wanted to weild the power and passion through my guitar that Dime was able to transduce through his! From that day forward I vowed to myself that I will one day be able to write riffs that carried people like the ones that Dime wrote. Riffs like the ones in: "A New Level," "Becoming," "This Love," "Domination," "Slaughtered", ect.. I had the priviledge of meeting Dime once, and it will always be one of the most remembered days of my life. Darrell has given me a gift that very few people get in this world.... He gave me a vision!!! He opened the door for me to see and hear past the normalcy of most music, and for that I am forever greatful! Thank you for being the baddest motherfucker to ever play the guitar!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe Johnson
