MESHUGGAH: 'Catch 33' Tentatively Scheduled For Release In April

Nuclear Blast Records has set an April 11, 2005 tentative European release date for the new MESHUGGAH studio album, "Catch 33".
In a recent interview with the Chronicles of Chaos extreme music webzine, MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake said of the upcoming CD, "It's not a proper full-length if you will, more like an experimental full-length. Like [the recently issued EP] 'I', it will be one single song, but at full-length. It's going to be much more guitar riff based than anything we have ever done as well, so there won't be as much of the drumming that kind of throws you off — just more straightforward, but at the same time totally insane riffing. . . It's definitely experimental and we're not telling people that this is the next official full-length. If you're looking for another 'Chaosphere' or another 'Nothing' that contains a bunch of different songs, then this is probably not the album that you want to buy, but if you're interested in anything that we're doing then it's something you should check out. Like I said, I'm sure that MESHUGGAH fans will love it. It's definitely a step to the side of what we're doing right now."

Fucking moron...just because your brain isn't able to wrap itself around Meshuggah's music doesn't mean they "suck". Martin Haake and Fredrik Thordendal are two of the best musicians in metal music today, go check out Thordendal's solo project (Sol Niger[as in darkness, not racist] Within) or even easier, attempt to headbang to a Meshuggah song and you can see where they're ability to use odd time signatures really shines.

Meshuggah does not "suck". They just aren't for everyone. If you don't like music that takes a lot of effort and attention to get into, then that's fine. For those who take the time and effort, though, Meshuggah is fuckin' AWESOME. For further clarification, read metaluntildeath's post above.
Sure was nice to see all the comraderie last week in the wake of Dime's death. I should have known that unity and mutual respect wouldn't last long.

Another example of why Meshuggah is way ahead of most bands. They are always ready and willing to experiment with their music. Something so many popular bands just are not willing or capable of doing. You may not like Meshuggah, but they are anything but "boring". They have some of the most talented musicians in the biz. Meshuggah haters are just like baseball haters. 'People who think baseball is boring have boring minds' is how the saying goes and I feel the same goes for Meshuggah. I am so glad there is a forum for them because now the Motley Crue boys can try and put them down. I welcome the hate, you better be able to back it up though. If Molotov is the leader of the fan club then I've gotta be the VP. The Crue couldn't hold Meshuggah's jock when it comes to talent, song writing and technical ability. I will be the first one in line to purchase yet another bold statement from Meshuggah. Come on, does anyone really think Motley Crue could or would put out a FULL LENGTH disc consisting of just ONE SONG????? They couldn't and they wouldn't!!!!!

Anyone that wants a nice introduction to Meshuggah just pick up their EP - None. This disc shows off their complex style and still remains very listenable. Also, their lyrics are very socially charged and are worthy of an internet search to make sure you heard what you thought you did. I would much rather have to look up and read lyrics than hear cheesy ones the first time through.

Is still an awesome album, it's just that Meshuggah, once again, experimented with thier sound. You gotta respect a band that experiments with thier sound on every album (though I will admit the first two albums before NONE were a little unimaginative) I is an amazing EP/Song (who else in the industry can rock that hard for 20 whole minutes?) and for those of you who keep talking about Meshuggah not doing solos...well, you obviously have never actually listened to Meshuggah or your idea of a "solo" if very small minded.

...until I actually sat down and listened to their music with a completely open mind. I mentally focused my mind on everything that was going on, and tried to dissect it in a really clinical, scientific fashion. Then all of a sudden, it all clicked and I was saying to myself, "holy shit, this is incredible!". A lot of people think chess is a boring game, but it's premier players are some of the most brilliant minds in the world.
What I'm trying to say is, one day when it all "clicks", and you finally DO understand their music, you're going to feel awfully stupid for bashing them.

...what seems at first like a chaotic, frenetic wall of noise and really listen to what's going on underneath it... you know, the individual components that make it up. A lot of people (I used to be one of them) pass it off as unintelligible nonsense because they don't take the time and effort to look (listen) deeper and see what's actually going on. There's all KINDS of insane shit going on underneath that wall of sound, and it's all perfectly synchronized! That's what makes it so damn cool, man!

I forgot to point out that listening to a Meshuggah song, you have to look not only at all the incredibly intricate, complex stuff going on at any one moment, but how it ALL fits together in one coherent big picture. Some of the songs on Nothing are totally brilliant in the way that they start off from a certain point, take you in all kinds of insane directions, and then somehow magically end up right back at that same point, making perfect sense when viewed as a whole.
You just have to "get it".
