Conservative Web Site Says DIMEBAG 'Contributed To Culture Of Death' That Spawned His Killer

William Grim, Contributing Editor of the popular conservative web site The Iconoclast, has penned the following article with regards to the recent murder of DAMAGEPLAN/ex- PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott: "You've undoubtedly heard by now that a demented fan last week killed heavy metal guitarist Dimebag Abbott at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. While I am extremely happy to hear that the assassin was shot to death by a brave Columbus policeman and I in no way want to engage in a blaming the victim scenario, I cannot deny that there much in Mr. Abbott's demise of one being hoisted on one's petard. The squalor, inhumanity, filth (both in the metaphorical and hygienic senses), depravity, ugliness and ignorance of everything that heavy metal represents (Like rap, I cannot use the noble term music in a description of heavy metal) creates a mindset among its devotees in which Mr. Abbott's assassination was an event that was all but waiting to happen. "It was highly amusing, and also terribly sad, to watch on television fans conducting a 'vigil' for the slain Mr. Abbott outside of the Alrosa Villa. It was an assemblage of ignorant, semi-human barbarians who were filthy in attire and manner, intellectually incoherent and above all else, hideously ugly to the point of physical deformity. Here is a definite case in which the outer appearance of these 'fans' accurately represented the hideousness of their souls. Well, allow me to be the first. This guy seriously needs to put down the thesaurus. My thoughts exactly and this ignorant piece of shit should be one of them.
The music industry lost a great man. Alot of my friends that are "metalheads" are some of the coolest people to come across. Just b/c they listen to a certain genre of music does not mean they themselves are wrong people and they live a bad/abnormal lifestyle. Alot of my friends who are lawyers and doctors, listen to metal music.....and they obviously have an amzing career and life, but obviously do not let they're musical preference influence them in any way. Dime played and listened to metal music, but he was a damn fucking good guy. Better than most I know.

Probably all he knows about metal is that its loud and you can't understand the guy singing...therefore its not worth listening to and everybody that listens to it uses drugs and are human debis and a drain on society. If this guy was a little more intelegent he'd see that the whole metal community has pretty much pulled together right now because of a fallen brother.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but if the person does not have a clue about the music or about the person really shouldn't have an opinion...that's my opinion. What most people don't realize and/or understand is that it's not Dime's fault or anyone else for that that plays this kind of music that people are insane and go on a killing spree. Dime didn't provoke or asked to be killed. Nathan Gale was clearly disturned and obviously had a chemical embalance...which is not his fault either, but the guy was just clearly insane. It seems often the wrong people in life are shot and killed. I have never considered myself to have the right to take another person's life no matter what I feel about them. Someone like you, however, who has such an utter disrespect for life, and opinions that differ from yours, doesn't deserve space on the planet. That was the most shallow and closed-minded article i have ever read. Did you ever consider that even though his music and appearance/lifestyle were not something for you, it still obviously touched thousands and tousands of people throughout the planet. Sure, it doesn't seem like these are good people to you, because you have developed such a narrow mind of what that is. You should hope in your lifetime to even be half the man darrell abbott was. Sure, you've got it covered when it comes to appearance. I'm sure you are one great looking guy. But inside, you could never be half the person he was, who made a friend with everyone he met, and touched the lives of millions with his albums. Your life will never mean any of that because you have no sense of compassion or empathy for how people feel and live. The metal community is the most tight nit and loyal communities on the face of the planet. People who loved this man and what he did for their lives, died trying to be there for him. The thing is, there is so much that is completely off-base, ignorant, and hateful about this article and the website it comes from, that I don't even know where to begin or where to end.
Don't blame the music. Metal or rap. Mainstream gangsta rap like 50 Cent truly does have little of substance to offer and does, in a sense contribute to a culture of violence at least in a vague symbolic sense, but at the end of the day you STILL have to be a messed up individual to kill someone. If this music didn't exist, people would still find reasons to kill each other. There is a lot of rap and hip hop out there that is trying to make a positive statement, or to get people to think, but if all you listen to is metal then I guess you aren't aware of that.
Pantera and Damageplan, likewise, are bands that have a positive message. Particularly on "Vulgar Display Of Power," Pantera had some very intelligent, introspective lyrics about social interaction, culture, growing up, etc.
Don't criticise what you don't understand.

The parts that stood out most to me was his preoccupation with "physical deformity" and "hideous ugliness" that he sees in metal fans. Hey, some folks ARE deformed at birth or suffer deformity through accidents. Other folks are not gifted in looks. Is this guy really so sick that he believes that ugly people are spiritually deformed? I didn't know that anybody believed that kind of shit anymore! He almost sounds as though he thinks that we are naturally inferior forms of life, and that our supposed ugliness is a punishment by God. What a sick belief. Even if it was true that we are physically ugly, this guy has an ugly heart, and that's much worse.
Y'know--a lot of you are obviously very pissed off by this guy's comments, and for a good reason. Think about this--this is what racism is like. No, I'm not saying that this guy is racist--he's a white guy insulting a mostly white group of people--but his smug hated is very similar to racism. It gives us a little taste of what it is like.
Finally, having known a fair number of conservative metalheads, and a huge number of conservatives, this guy doesn't represent all conservatives. There is a certain BRANCH of conservatism that is very hateful and intolerant, and that's what he's representing. I'd love to hear some conservative metalheads hand this guy's ass to him.
For anyone who writes to him--I understand the urge to vent, but writing intelligent comments that refute his stupidity is the best punishment you could give him.

I would just like to post the email I sent to the editors of that shit site in response to this article. What an asshole!!! I'll let you all know if they reply to me.
To Whom It May Concern:
Where do I start?? While Mr. (I use the term very loosely) Grim's article may have been meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek, I am very insulted by almost everything he had to say. Mr. Abbott's music did nothing to provoke this maniacal, delusional person that murdered him. Just as Monica Seles' tennis career had nothing to do with the crazed fan that attempted to take her life. Also, ridiculing and denigrating the many fans of Mr. Abbott for conducting a vigil is digusting at best. Mr. Abbott has been recognized by basically anyone who had ever met him as being an honest, humble, appreciative, loving and caring son, brother and friend. Based on everything I have read from his thousands of admirers, Darrell was cordial, friendly and accomadating to all fans who had the pleasure of meeting him. Darrell Abbott did not spread hate. Quite the opposite. Upon hearing of his death, many, if not most of his fans jammed chat rooms and forums to share stories of his kindness and the respect we had for someone who had all the talent in the world and never took it for granted. In closing, it is quite obvious that William Grim's article on the murder of Darrell Abbott has spread more hate than Darrell did in his whole life. That's assuming Darrell ever did at all.
I fully expect a response from this email. I personally take offense to William Grim's assertion that Heavy Metal fans are "ignorant, semi-human barbarians who were (are) filthy in attire and manner, (and) intellectually incoherent" as I embody none of these qualities. William Grim should try to do some good on this planet rather than spread his intolerant and ignorant views. As I stated earlier, his article did more to spread hate than anything Darrell ever did or said.

I took the time to write a response to Mr. Grim. I couldn't believe it when I read his "article" - completely bullshit. This is going to be LOOOONG, but here's what I wrote him, for anyone interested in reading an intelligent response to his crap...
Dear Mr. Grim :
I found your article both offensive and completely devoid of any form of human compassion. Calling yourself an elitist is a joke - you claim that Americans should aspire to greatness, whilst you yourself are nothing more than a narrow-minded, culturally ignorant jackass.
Your specific remarks in regards to heavy metal fans in general are sickening. How you can publicly display such ridiculous, one-sided, and totally uneducated opinions is beyond me. Basing someone's personality, soul, and character off of a physical appearance is against everything which America stands for - and considering that from the context of your article you consider yourself a good American, you of all people should understand how asinine your remarks are.
I myself am a fan of heavy music, and personally took offense to your remarks. Were you to meet me on the street, you wouldn't have the slightest idea that I was a lifelong fan of metal music, and more specifically, took great inspiration from the talents of Dimebag Darrell. The fact that he was not Bach or Beethoven does not cheapen or lessen his contribution to music, or make him some sort of sub-par human being.
It amazes me that someone of your obvious mental acumen could be so absolutely lacking of any sort of compassion or open-mindedness towards other people. Whether or not you liked or respected Dimebag's talents or music, or heavy metal in general, the fact remains that he influenced millions of young musicians in a very positive way. I think that you have failed to realize that while you take many positives from the classical music you so often refer to in your article, many people have taken away similar sentiments from Dimebag's guitar playing and music, and from metal in general. You may not care for the music itself, but it IS music, and music is universal in its ability to reach people on a very deep emotional level, and Dimebag's music certainly did just that.
I am appalled at the fact that you would take something as sad as Dimebag's murder and turn it into something which he almost deserved. The fact that you would attack someone in death, and attack those who loved and respected him as well, is morally reprehensible in every respect.
The fact is that Dimebag Darrell Abbott is remembered by almost everyone as a wonderful human being first, and a very talented musician second. Whether or not he was covered in tattoos and long hair and a pink goatee, the person inside that rough exterior was one of the finest people I have ever come into contact with. We, as people, are always judged by our character, heart, soul, and humanity above all other things, and in those areas, Dimebag represented the best of us. It's obvious that you never met him, read about him, or even know one single thing about him, which just makes your article that much more ignorant and upsetting.
I found a great deal of irony in your little rant, however - your usage of the phrases (or should I call them insults?) "ignorant, semi-human barbarians", "ignorant, barbaric, untalented possessor of a guitar and large amplifier system", and "more simian than human" in describing Darrell were very accurate descriptions of yourself, instead. I would, of course, change "untalented possessor of a guitar and large amplifier system" to "untalented possessor of a keyboard and an uneducated opinion", but you get my point.
You are a disgrace. It is quite obvious to me, and to all who read your mindless drivel, that you could only hope to be one fifth of the person that Dimebag Darrell Abbott was. Being a good person is completely independent of one's musical tastes, and by insuating that that is not the case, you have proven yourself to be a complete, total, and undeniably heartless monster.
If being "civilized" means subscribing to your definitions of human decency, I am proud to call myself uncivilized. Darrell was a wonderful person, a ridiculously talented guitar player who changed the way millions of people played the electric guitar, and someone who made a very positive and enduring difference in the lives of all who knew or met him.
Shame on you sir. I would expect a much more open-minded and understanding viewpoint from someone as intelligent as you.

It's definately a conservative website, no question about that. It uses satire, yes, but it's satire against the left and ANYONE ELSE that doesn't fit their narrowminded view of the world. Personally, I think that humor is a great tool, but a). Some of the articles on the website are obviously not intended to be humorous--read them, and b). Even if this particular article was intended to be humorous, it's not funny at all to make fun of Dime's death.

Sinner--Blabbermouth is not misleading its readers. I'm a left-winger who reads conservative media to get different points of view, and this is a well-known conservative website. Is it me or did any body else catch on to this. Back when artests(the one's he likes) were creating their art, they were deemed to be devil worshipers, bad people, scum also. I find it kind of funny that the people he deems better people, were cast outs just like us metal heads. If he lived in Beethoven's time he too would be on the receiving end of the concervatives tounge. But like most Conservatives they do what is in. They are never true to thenselves or anybody else. So hence he would probubly Not like Beethoven and go with the rest of the church on who is or isent the right way. Very well said. I'm quite sure that grim's article was written specifically to get a rise, and more than likely not to be taken seriously. I could be wrong on both accounts. The mere fact that it was written at all disgusts me, and obviously anyone else who read it. I also posted my email to the editors of that site and hope the sheer volume of feedback they receive will be enough to make them, at the least, reconsider the direction they are taking by posting ridiculous, ignorant and tasteless material such as this. Once again, Dimebag Darrell has brought this metal community together and I hope people recognize that. It's a crying shame that it is his death that has brought this about, however it is a tribute to the person Darrell was that we all care enough to let our voices be heard. R.I.P. One heavy metal musician was killed by a fan who obviously had mental problems. It's akin to argueing that the military creates crazed killers based solely on the fact that Nathan Gale and John Hinkley, jr. were former military men. It's a broad, unsubstantiated claim.
At the end of the day. It doesn't matter, you won't consider anything I say. I believe you are likely to thick to comprehend anything logical which is presented to you.
I hope you feel better about yourself for degrading someone's life, their fans, their friends, their families.

He seems to think that he is so much better than us "evil" metalheads. I'd like to know how he would feel if it was his brother on that stage that was brutally murdered? A demented 25 year old psycho murdered someone for no reason other than the fact that in his sick head he thought Dime was the reason for Pantera breaking up. There is NO other reason he did it. This William Grim is just another ignorant fool who can't accept the fact that there are crazy people in this world who don't have to have a reason. Ok ya'll I must admit i haven't read everyone's post's for this topic so i don't know how many of ytou have done the same thing, but i decided to send our buddy Mr. Grim (which sounds like a cheezy 80's metal band name doesn't it?) and small comuniqu... here's what i had to say to him, I urge you all to express your thoughts to him as well, his email address can be found on the website on which his editorial appears. I've just read your less than considerate comments on Mr. Abbot, and I can honestly say I'm in a state of utter shock and borderline rage. This is not so much a result of your opinion itself but more so the fact that whether you realize it or not you editorial is the epitome of what heavy metal is all about(stay with me). You describe Mr. Abbot(in certain portions of the text) and, his listeners and the metal populace in general as follows " ...a definite case in which the outer appearance of these "fans" accurately represented the hideousness of their souls. Heavy metal (and there are plenty of positive band's out there on a lyrical level, but you didn't attack them, you attacked Dime, and us so i'll stay on topic), takes negativity in all it's various emotional forms and channels it into (at it's best) a form of enjoyment and expression I fear you'll never know,yes, like all cultural movements it can go too far at times (norway circa 1983) ,and yes that is sad, but there is no action without reaction, and we all know it's better to analyze the cause rather than the effect. Moving on, Imagine the initiative and drive a young man or woman feels when he/she hears their favorite singer sing/scream about some of the very issues that he/she is struggling with at the moment. You may find this amusing Mr. Grim but hearing what I'm describing can be the defining moment in a person's life, music has the power to compensate for a great many things, because not all have the love of a family, the benefit of a great education, resources with which to study how they might benefit and improve themselves(although on a side note, reading Manly P. Hall's Secret Teachings of All Ages would be a profound start). You state, "If a person has gone through 12 or 13 years of education and has not developed an appreciation for the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, that education has been an utter failure.". For someone as ignorant as this person's statement just tells me that there are too many people in the world that are blind and arrogant. As a guitar player of 15 years and piano player of 20, let me recommend that you take a closer look at something before you denounce it. This will allow people to take you serioulsy. But then again, I have a feeling your argument was meant for people who already agree with you, it wasn't an argument for people who disagree. I have performed Bach in Master Classes for Christopher Parkening and Pepe Romero - and let me tell you, learning how to play guitar like Mr. Abbott requires just as much talent, discipline, ability and dedication as the hardest pieces in the classical guitar repertoire.
The idea that Mr. Abbott was somehow responsible for his own assasination is ludicrous. If heavy metal music creates murderous people, then what's your explanation for John Lennon's assasination? JFK's assasination? Abraham Lincoln's assasination? Martin Luther King Jr. assasination? All of these people promoted peace.
One last thing, if all you get out of listening to Bach's music is that he is 'superior,' then I feel so, so, very sorry for you."

Dear Mr. Grim,
First, I'd like to thank you for your sympathies in this dark time for us, the metal community. Your almost robotic and perfunctory sorrow over the loss of human life shows just how much you care, and how much you care to research a topic before you shoot your mouth off.
I won’t waste time picking apart your intentionally pompous essay line by line, but I will go over some of the blatantly misinformed quotes and do my best to correct them.
I'd like to start by disecting your definition of ‘heavy metal.’ You hung a slew of negative descriptors on those two words and never really defined them, instead retreating to your apparently beloved Mozart. I have an appreciation for classical music, as it takes years to master even one song, let alone to possess the musical genius to write something as enduring as the symphonies written by Mozart, Bach, et all. I will not however, pretend to be informed on the musical style, as really all I've heard are bits and pieces here and there of any of the aforementioned composers, and likely could not differentiate between them.
Heavy metal is, as defined by many a primate as you so lovingly refer to us as, music that is aggressive in nature, with fast guitar and bass passages, chaotic drumming, and angry vocal stylings. And that is the most basic, generic definition of the dozens of genres of heavy metal. There are of course exceptions to every rule, but the above description will serve nicely as a hard and fast rule, no pun intended. Heavy metal is a musical genre that, when uncorrupted, is an outlet for the negative energy that modern day life inflictions upon a person. To speak to a musician after a performance, you will notice two key things; they will be physically and emotionally spent, and they will generally be happier than they were before the performance. Having played a few gigs myself, to perform is to cleanse your soul of the demons that troubled you to the point of creating the music you are performing.
From a fan's standpoint, to hear someone sing words that you can relate to gives you the strength of knowing you are not alone and there is someone else out there dealing with what ever it may be that is troubling you. To say that heavy metal is negative is a grossly overused stereotype. Simply because something is aggressive in nature does not mean that the song is negative. There are a great deal of bands who play an aggressive style, but overwhelmingly sing about positive subjects. Would you call a band apes if they played a fast song about wanting to live? To do so would be almost an oxymoron.
Darrell Lance Abbott did not write any symphonies. Neither did Edward Van Halen, Chuck Schuldiner, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, or Jim Morrison. They all did however leave an indelible mark on music, if not in their respective genre, than on music as a whole. Darrell took the art of playing guitar to a level that is practically unheard of, writing riffs and solos that have inspired thousands of people across the world to either take up guitar, or to take their playing to the next level. To simply lump the accomplishments of Pantera and Damageplan into the sea of schlock that is modern pop music is to not only do a disservice to his memory, but to the metal community and to
yourself also. Doing so shows that you like to write to prove a point, and not to show that you are knowledgeable on the subjects you speak of and have something constructive to offer. Darrell's bands were about as far from mainstream as you could be and still be on a 'major' record label.
Your rant gives the reader the overwhelming feeling that you listen to classical music and everything else is morally corrupt and not worth the listener's time. To say that Bach is better than Pantera is to say that roller skates are better than wood grain paneling. They are two completely different subjects. If I wish to listen to something that would make for good background music for reading, I will listen to Chopin. However, more times than not, I will prefer to hear something performed by an artist who's lyrics make me feel something, or who's musical prowess inspires me. Darrell Abbott's intense guitar playing combined with Phillip Anselmo's (or Patrick Lachman's) pained lyrics fits this description near perfectly.
To refer to Darrell as a savage primate is a disgrace to both yourself and his memory. Darrell was well known through out the entire 'rock' music industry as one of the kindest people around. Darrell genuinely cared about those around him, and to share a drink with him would create an indestructible bond with him. His heart rivaled his sense of humor, another trait you claim he did not have. The Pantera home videos are the standard in which all other 'backstage' videos are judged, and none are as entertaining as the original. Although I'm positive that if you took the time to learn about the man you strike down, you would probably label his jokes, pranks, and antics as subhuman.
I'll close by simply saying, in words you'll understand, keep your holier than thou attitude, your upper class snobbishness, and your ignorance to yourself. The only thing you have accomplished by posting your misinformed rant on your webpage is showing how much of a ignorant prick you are. You have made it abundantly clear that if someone does not agree with your narrow-minded views that they are not worthy of your presence. That being said, there a few that would welcome your company, and the bulk of those individuals are likely to die of old age in the next decade.
Should you ever decide to open your mind, I'd be more than happy to bring you to one of our 'primate shows' and share a few black tooth's with you. And, that is not a typographical error, either.

I am aware that a true musical savant talent does not come along often, maybe even not once in a century. Classical composers are undeniable talents. But so was Dimes. He could play every Lead written for any instrument on his guitar if he set his mind to it. He was a guitar god, and millions across the world recognize it.
But every once in while, a moron comes along that will incite and further distancing between humans. Such a complete travesty of man is what you are. Your ignorance is unbelieveable and your words make me less confident in humankind. You are a hater, and your likes spawns only evil and sadness. I hope you some will realise this.
Because your ignorance is on par with other religious fanatics, that we have to fear so much in these times.

I've posted some really satirical stuff on B-mouth before that some people took seriously, and I had to point out that it was satire. I'm pretty heavily into satire myself, and that website is not satire. I think that some people are confusing "humour" and "satire."
Unfortunately, the article that this thread is based on is not even REMOTELY satire. There are some attempts at humour, but the writer really means what he writes.

I havn't the time to tell you how arrogant you sounded in your article concerning the death of MUSICIAN "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Though you may not understand or approve of the music Dime made it is no way your right to find other peoples' deaths and pain "highly amusing." There was one sick person who happened to listen to Pantera and Damage Plan (though I'm figuring he didn't give the latter much of a chance). There are millions who listen to their music with respect and admiration, one of which is me. Now, I don't expect you to understand the magnitude of the event given you didn't like Dime or his music in the first place; however let me try to explain. Do you, Mr. Grim, have something in your life that you love, that is your release and your relief from the madness of the world around you? For may people it's music and even if it is a genre that you don't approve of it does not diminish the fact that it was for others. I cannot force you to open your mind and understand that well adjusted people listen to metal, because very apparently you have made your judgment on all of us. However, I cannot help myself from telling you that you were insensitive and rude in your article. Not only was Dime an outstanding musician but a good, warm-hearted, giving, fun man and in enjoying watching people mourn him you have proven that you are not such a man.

Hey there all fellow metal fans. I'm sorry to say, but I don't think this rant was a joke...the ultra conservative right-wing is full of hate and intolerance. Here's the letter I emailed to the author of the article, Mr. Grim. I suspect he won't reply, but here it is for you all to read:
Mr. Grim,
After reading your recent article posted on www.iconoclast.ca, I have concluded that there are one of two things going on here. Either this is a very sick joke on your part, or even worse, you're an ignorant, close-minded, hateful waste of human life.
Taking away the entire argument of "Blue States vs. Red States" (Liberal vs. Conservative), if we focus our attention solely on the musical aspect of your rantings, you have proven yourself ignorant.
First of all, why would a true music fan have to draw a line in the sand and pledge his or her allegiance to any one particular style of music (for your information, I'm a musician, and love and appreciate many styles of music--there are few genres I don't enjoy)? Comparing Ludwig Van Beethovan to Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott is akin to comparing apples to oranges. The types of music are such opposite ends of the spectrum that your argument makes little sense. Within his genre, Mr. Abbott was a true innovator. He was able to play guitar in ways that many people can only dream of. You may not appreciate the sonic intensity of the "Heavy Metal" genre, but there are some extremely talented musicians playing this type of music. Granted, there is a lot of awful music in this genre, but, really there is awful music in EVERY genre.
I think it's sad that you would refer to Mr. Abbott as "semi-human barbarian" simply based on his appearance. Does he look freak-like to you Mr. Grim? Well, in his day and age, Mr. Beethovan was considered quite a radical in his own right.
Do you really believe that all classical artists were/are moral pillars of their society? You cannot be serious. Many classical composers whom you regard were the renegades of their day and age...many experiemented with mind-altering substances...many were homosexual, or frequented "women of ill repute". But, I suppose it's ok, as long as they tried to keep it hidden and continued to wear powdered wigs and sequins, right?
Your rant only serves to further my belief that hard-line conservatives, like yourself, are full of hate and intolerance for anyone seeing things differently than yourself.
Ironically, the very Jesus Christ that Conservative Evangelicals base their hateful, narrow-minded, ignorant agenda upon was, in fact, quite liberal. During his ministry, Christ spent most of his time with the downtrodden...the "freaks"...the scum...the low-life people of his time. He was ridiculed and persecuted by the conservatives of his day, the Pharisees, for preaching love and tolerance for your fellow man, and I suppose if Jesus were here today, people like you (modern-day Pharisees) would despise him.
Oh, I'm sure that you'll either cast my email into your trash bin, or if you do reply, you'll only continue on in your hateful rehtoric. I don't expect less from you.
Mr. Grim, I pity you and people of your ilk. To go through life carrying such a burden...to harbor so many feelings of hate, it must take its toll.

So just because you met a "few" metal heads that wearnt to "YOUR" intelectual level does NOT give him the right to judge people the way he does.

Well Old School, I tried to look at some of his jazz reviews but I couldn't find them. But seriously, this guy is so hypocritical! Jazz! Seriously, read up on your music history.
I am just so sad that he would mock Dime's death and all of those mourning for such a wonderful person. I read that article and just felt like I was punched in the stomach. I'm actually surprised I was able to feel such strong emotion because I am after all subhuman and a barbarian.

"It was highly amusing, and also terribly sad, to watch on television fans conducting a 'vigil' for the slain Mr. Abbott outside of the Alrosa Villa. It was an assemblage of ignorant, semi-human barbarians who were filthy in attire and manner, intellectually incoherent and above all else, hideously ugly to the point of physical deformity. Here is a definite case in which the outer appearance of these 'fans' accurately represented the hideousness of their souls. That the physical deformity of their ugliness was self-inflicted makes the spiritual tragedy of their misspent lives all the more tragic.
You know, i know plenty of people who are into metal and live completly "normal" lives by your standards. I'm a member of the Army, and i still love this music, and i always will. Nothing, and no up tight fuck head is going to try to take away my lifestyle. Bashing on the vigil they were doing for Dime by saying the things you said about how we look only shows your ignorance towards anything... You don't see me bitching about your funeral sessions you hold for you dead grandma do you?

This is my first posting to blabbermouth, and first and foremost, I want to offer my condolences to Dimebag's family and friends for the loss of this great person. I will forever carry the sadness of his death with me until my last breath in this earth.
And thank you to the folks running blabbermouth...your hard and vigilant work has been kind and greatly appreciated by many of us mourning Dimebag. There is some comfort in expressing our share pain, and I appreciate the opportunity of unity that this site has provided during the past several days.
And last but not least, thank you to all of Dimebag's fans. We cry together, and we share each other's pain. Your words, both profound, angry, mature and immature, are indicative of the suffering that all of us have endured together.
o.k., now for my rant about William Grim...my post to the guestbook (which, of course, was promptly deleted):
It is with great sadness that I find myself in the same political ideology as Mr. William Grim. (Perhaps I should commit myself to deep soul searching as a result of this association!)
From reading the self-important dissertation that Mr. Grim was compelled to write in this time of tragedy and mourning, it is quite apparent that he is nothing more than an intellectual wimp. And he is probably nothing more than pu$$y in the physical world, as well (which is probably the reason for his need to seek confirmation among his small group of fellow halfwits...they won't beat him up or question his lack of intelligence).
Hiding behind the pseudonym "William Grim", and from the illusionary safety of the internet, he mocks, degrades, and downright insults an entire group of people with a manner that is often utilized and associated with bigot minded individuals and race-hating groups around the globe.
It is with a certain assumption that I understand Mr. Grim would be unable to mutter his self righteous braindroppings in a public forum, either out of cowardice, lack of courage, or, most likely, a lot of both characteristics.
Mr. Grim, I neither condone violence, nor do I support the perpetuation of hate based thought processes. Obviously, by your apparent display of indignation, you not only support these intellectually challenged avenues of thought, but relish in their dead-end results.
I sincerely hope that you take a moment to reflect on the audacity of your musings, and offer an apology. Not only out respect for your fellow human beings, but also for your own safety.
I would not wish to be on the receiving end of the anger felt in the metal community at the moment.

I hold the radical belief that art should be a part of human life rather than apart from it and I respect and appreciate all whom take their own life firmly within their hands and acheive what is important to them...within them, especially! I support only equality of opportunity, not equality of results. Which we have in this country! Which is why we have ALL types of Music for ALL people. The phenomenon of Darrell and his music transcends explanation. You mention Mozart, Bach and others saying that they are true music and "Heavy Metal" is not ........Well it is true what they say that you cannot like what you do not understand!
Darrel's style was very unique, unlike many of the musical styles of his time. Yes lots of bands follow but each lead with their own musical gifts. That is why it is called MUSIC....it consists of numerous types. Not just one. Hell Mozart was know for being different and not playing what was appropriate for his time!! Did that stop him? No it inspired him and many many others to be just as eagar and creative. How the hell do you think we get anything and everything we have, hear, smell or taste...SOMEONE HAD TO MAKE IT!
People like you did not appreciate his radical music because you did not understand his complex and extraordinary mind. People like yourself actually listen to it and love it ya know. Were you in need of the spotlight? You must have been to write that. See we fans are passioniate about what we love, just as Bach, Mozart or any you named. We do not disrespect those who were stolen from us due to some freak who had his own messed up mind due to his own individual reasons and not cause METAL MADE HIM DO IT.....
It is about freedom to be an individual, yet having control over your own actions. You say Darrell caused his own death..
Your a fool now...... Darrell did not bash anyone, laugh at a victim, blame a certain group of people for any hardships he may have faced. He chose what made him happy and lived it, died it and will me remembered for it!

Mr. Grim is very adept at what he does, that of course being showing glaring ignorance. I question his education (or lack thereof) as he clearly has no understanding of psychological disorders. I've got degrees in psych and am working on a Ph.D. in Psych as well (I/O psych to be exact) and can easily tell you that metalheads, though I know you all know this, can be VERY intelligent. Of course, in his infinite wisdom, Mr. Grim would never know this. It saddens me that in a time of great tragedy such as this that someone would quickly look for a way to tear down the image of a man who by every account, and just look at this website for proof, was a better human being than most oculd ever dream to be. I have come out of retirement for a one-off post to disavow this idiot's brand of conservatism. Contemporary American conservatism would be better described as libertarianism or classic liberalism (i.e. liberalism of the JFK era and before). Grim is not this type of conservative, rather he is a throwback to the aristocratic era of the late-18th Century. He's like a bizarro world Howard Stern - a shock scribe for pretentious super-elitists who live only inside their own hermetically sealed minds.

I was very upset to read mr. grims comments. here's the email I sent him:
There's a saying, "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one". there's no truer saying. You have an opinion, I have an opinion. I am a fan of all music, heavy metal, classical, etc. If you can say that Darrell Abbott had no talent, then I'm sorry son, you are sadly mistaken. He was an amazing guitarist, who if you listened to all of Pantera's music and heard songs like "Cemetary Gates" and "Planet Caravan", you'd hear that he capable of playing more than just a powerchord. I feel that you should know more about him and his playing before you use such strong terms like "he was the performer of a type of "entertainment" that can be likened only to a gorilla on PCP". I also feel that every human life is equal, and that when someone dies, you don't make fun of them or demean their existence. What you may have been looking for with your commentary is to ignite a fuse, and I'm sure you have. What you do not understand is that there are teenagers and adults (like myself, and you may think that I am another un-educated idiot, however, I have a B.Sc. with Major in Chemistry and Minor in Mathematics) out there that without Darrell's music and other metal music in general, that we can relate to. I can only speak for myself when I say that music like his helped me through many hard times, and I can honestly say that without his music and inspiration, that I myself may not be alive today. I can only be thankful for what he has given me. Mom was never sick in her life and that’s why her death seemed so unreal. During her final illness Mom was in intensive care and placed on painkillers. Although she was only semi-conscious one day she began to sing arias from a Handel oratorio that she had performed in college. Mom was a highly trained singer and pianist and even though her physical condition was extremely weak her voice was strong and as beautiful as I had ever heard it. It was a strange experience seeing Mom in intensive care and listening to her sleep-singing. The nurses and doctors told me that they really enjoyed Mom’s singing. They said that many of the patients in Mom’s condition would yell out or let loose with strings of expletives like persons suffering from Tourette’s Syndrome. They said that Mom’s singing made the place seem more cheerful, more lifelike. Well, that was Mom. Even when she was dying she somehow managed to bring beauty into the world.
After a couple of days Mom stopped singing. She was put on morphine and appeared to have completely lost consciousness. Dad and I and our relatives came several times a day to stay with Mom, but she never stirred. After about a week in this condition, I decided one day to go in to see Mom by myself at a time during which we didn’t normally visit. Several minutes after I arrived Mom stirred and regained consciousness. We talked for about an hour and then Mom fell asleep. That was the last time she was ever conscious and I wouldn’t have traded that hour for all the money in the world.
As I’m writing this I’m listening to Bobby Shew and the Metropole Orchestra play “My One and Only Love.” It’s so sad and melancholy and I just want to cry, but I don’t.
Mom has been dead for nine years. I think about her every day and I miss her very much.

They're wiping it all out, and only posting their brown-nose complimentary posts. Go see for yourself. So, if any of you plan on making any profound statements, I have a feeling they're falling on blind eyes. All those intelligent emails?
