Updated: MÖTLEY CRÜE's Performance On 'Video Game Awards' Was A 'Train Wreck': Video Available!

MÖTLEY CRÜE performed their hit songs "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood" during an appearance on the Spike TV's second annual "Video Game Awards 2004" show on Tuesday, Dec. 14. According to one BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor, "It was hilarious! During their second song, 'Dr. Feelgood', the pre-recorded background vocals (chorus) came in to the song way to early and interrupted the first verse causing one hell of a train wreck! The band didn't recover really 'till the end of the song... [Bassist] Nikki [ Sixx] was shown singing and nothing was coming out, looked like his mic was off. I have always said the CRÜE relies WAY TOO much on sampled backgrounds instead of just singing it yourself. Tonight it was obvious and was embarrassing to watch." I was for one was excited once i heard the Crue was gettin back together and i LOVE the new Crue tune If I Die Tomorrow and video, but i have seen 3 performances 2 live and 1 of the band , Jimmy Kimmel and that joke of a performance on Spike Tv last nite . Mick Mars looks like he needs CPR to move , granted he is one hell of a talented guiaterest , but Vince , man Vince , he cant sing straight through , he skips lyrics always on Feelgood and did it again on Kimmel n Spike Tv , man i would hate to hear him sing LiveWire on this tour . The stage set - up last night on Spike Tv was something out of 1985 , something hard rock music has been missin for years , a fun kick ass rock show , but in order to tolerate it , they might have to turn the amps and drums up to 200 to drown out Vinces voice , cause he sounds like shit , looks good , sounds like shit ,
AND WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH SNOOP DOGG COMIN OUT SINGING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS HOMEBOYS , man you have been playin this tune for what 15 years now or so and you screw it complety up , maybe this is what they wanted , cause this well get them talked about , and it seems they are all about the press right now . Too bad Vince cant hear himself sing , or he would quit ....

Vince would skip the first couple words of the line then finish it. mmmmmm FEELGOOD, mmm mm mm mm ALRIGHT. God it was horrible and I was a Crue fan "back in the day". Couldn't believe it. And Mick Mars is a far cry from being a talented guitarist. Maybe he was once, on one album but not since then.

I saw this last night, and all I have to add to this is...
With live TV being the way it is, It's easier, quicker, and cheaper to have the band and/or singer lip-sync to a track to save time...After all you can't set up a full blown tour in 20mins...And "yes" lots of bands use backing tracks live, they have to I believe to make the sound full
One thing that gets me is, since it was pre-recorded,...Why didn't they stop, fix the problem, and retape the segment?....

I guess Dr. Feelgood is now Dr. Feltgood. Yes, I watched it twice just to be sure. Also, did anyone else notice it seemed like Mick wasn't even playing guitar during a couple of parts in Girls, Girls, Girls??? I know they used recorded background vocals and that's fine, but did anyone else see Mick just standing there two different times with his hand off the fretboard??? I am not saying this to bust on the Crue, I honestly think I saw that. Mick is the only one I respect out of the bunch and I know he just had surgery. Hope he's alright. He wasn't the most blatant offender either.

Everything was going great until the screw up and they covered up pretty well. They have always used pre recorded backup vocals for the chorus of a few songs but the still play live. Vince has always skipped words live and thats just the way it is.

Dude I saw thier last couple real tours and they were fucking ridiculous. I mean downright awful. Mick is the only cool thing about this band. I feel sorry for him. This was a very bad performance by the Crue there is no doubt about that. They and many many other bands use backing tracks to make the sound fuller. As for Mick not playing while you heard the guitar well that is because there are two guitar parts going on there. Every go to a concert and look off the side of the stage and see some guy playing the guitar. Same thing. If you only have one guitar player and you have overlaying parts you have one of two options. Adding another guitar player or adding the part recorded. This is a good example of why you should just have someone play the part. Everyone was a little thrown off when the backing vocals kicked in way before they were supposed to and it is not an easy thing to get back on track after. As for Vince....well someone has to tell him to start singing the songs again. Its like a fill in the blank song evertime his mouth opens.
I will be there when the Crue roll through my town. I always have and I always will. They have never left me down live before and I don't expect this tour to be any different.

It's not any bands fault when the idiots running the sound systems/board don't know what the hell we're doing. We played One from Metallica live once and we had taped the talking part in the middle of the song so we could use it live. The A-hole soundman who was told were to turn it on and off managed to screw it up and fuck up the song. So cut them or any band some slack as it's not always the bands fault!!

I died a little inside when I saw that show. What Hardrockinlover said about the fuck-up could be true. It could have been just a publicity stunt (I don't think the show was aired live, why would they air the mistake?). However, I don't see how being caught cheating would sell-out stadiums, make money, and spark positive interest in the Crüe (It doesn't make want to buy a ticket). With the backround voice fuck-up, the defence that lots of other bands use fake tracks, what invisi3ill said about Mick not playing on some parts, the defence that sixxgunner provided that there is some secret guy backstage playing the overdubs, and all of the other bullshit makes me question what's real and what's not. Thus, I'm sadly losing a lot of respect for the Crüe. I don't know if I can listen to them the same way anymore, not knowing what is real or not. But, I do like the fact that Vince sang like: "___side Jimmy he ___nnin' a gaaaaaaaang _______hear he's ____in' OK. _____Cozy little job______Mexi___mob_______ages OF CANDYCAIN" It proves that Vince's voice is real (or a belivable voice track). When they did shit out those backround tracks, they sounded so shitty and fake. Mötley Crüe sould get rid of ALL of the fake bullshit. Sing, play, and drum everything the way it sould be: REAL. That's what funking Rock is all about!!!
P.S. Why the hell did Snoop come out and do some pointless rap on Girls, Girls, Girls.

I have no desire to see Motley Crue live. I saw the performance last night. Absolutely horrible. I hate backing tracks!!! I would rather see Lindsey Lowhan lip-sync (at least she is decent to look at) than watch this type of performance. This is coming from a Crue fan. Very disappointing!!!

Buy a ticket go to the show in your town. This and This alone is what will bring you back and make you believe in the magic of the Crue. I have seen them 5 times and walked away with a big ass grin on my face everytime. They won't let you down. Last night was a one time thing. I agree with you abou the backing tracks but they are used by a lot of bands. Especially when Bob Rock over produces as well, he has been known to do.
Trust me when the Crue kick into Home Sweet Home and you are half dissapointed because you can't hear Vince at all only to realize that it's becasue the masses of Crue heads are singing louder than the band a big ass smile will come to you face that won't leave till your half way Home Sweet Home!!!!!!

I saw Aerosmith and KISS last year in St. Louis and they actually put on a great show. Imagine that. I wasn't expecting much but I was happy. I had seen KISS back in 1980 on the Dynasty tour and not much could top that - (12 years old and seeing KISS - roit!!!) but I can't complain about last years tour.

I've heard Vince sing absolutely great live the recent years and less great sometimes,nobody's perfect.
On the new single he sings better than he's ever done before.
You can't complain about Tommy or Mick thei're good musicians,both have their own original style and Mick is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
Nikki's not the best bassist in the world but he can play and he's a genius songwriter and there wouldn't be a Motley Crue without him.

A few weeks ago, I stated that the Crue use backing tracks live like KISS does, and I was told that I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, see, they DO use backing tracks. And yes, way too many bands use backing tracks these days, but plenty of bands don't. I'd rather hear a band fucking up or not hear one of the extra guitar parts than just hear precorded shit. Your logic is astounding. Just so you know Beck is an amazingly gifted songwriter and musician. The common thread between these three bands is their creative approach towards the music they write. This also includes their lyrics. Never heard Meshuggah and never will. That's a great way to diversify your tastes. To not like something because someone else does. That is logic X -1. Oh, by the way-I really like G n R, it's Motley Crue I can't stand. Beck once wrote "Nothing's measured by what it needs". More profound than all of Motley Crue's lyrics combined. You probably wouldn't like any of these artists because they continue to be experimental with their approaches to songwriting.

Yeah that was definitely a fuck up allright....At first I couldn't tell but then you can tell when Mick starts going into the verse and the chorus keeps going..and the rapper clears off the stage that it was a trainwreck. You can also tell Vince is confused about what is going on.

Now you are putting people into boxes for their musical tastes. I love the Crue but I also love Bob Dylan. I love Iron Maiden and The Beatles. Slayer and Stryper. Kiss and David Bowie. Just because one is a Crue head doesn't mean that they can't have an open mind to all music or have no taste. I love the Crue probably for all the reasons you hate them. I love explosions, Harleys, hot chicks on stage, spinning drum kits, and a who gives the fuck attitude. If I wasnt to hear great guitar I will throw in some Jason Becker or Steve Vai. If I want to throw something in that will make me think I will throw Dylan in, But when I wasnt to let loose and have a grand fucking time and drink with my buddies nothing beats the Crue.
Oh and everyone has an image. Motleys just happens to be over the top.
I respect your right to like the bans you listed. I went to College 1994-1998 so I have listened to and bought my share of Beck Cd's and I agree that he is a great song writter but when I am out to party and have a kick ass time??????/ Not my first choice.
Think about the Lyrics to Motley Crues "Your all I need". Pretty inventive and cool to make such a sick song sound like a beautiful ballad. They are not near as talentless as you make them out to seem.
Let me ask you something, what do you think of eminem? I hate rap but he has some of the best lyrics I have ever heard.

I didn't say anything about anybody's taste in music. I am simply am voicing my opinion about Motley Crue. I never said that anyone who likes The Crue is stupid or anything like that. Simply that Motley Crue is a poser, sell-out band and write generic, cheesy lyrics. That is my opinion. They deserve all the bashing in the world in my opinion. They have always been about image first, music second and have whored out to the media like very few, if any, bands ever have. This blitz of media hype about everything from bombing in their first two public (NATIONWIDE) performances to the condition of Nikki's freekin hangnail (obviously I am kidding - it was his train tracks) is just the latest evidence that this whole sham is about the money. Motley Crue is interested in one thing only - your wallet. Yeah, maybe they'll put out some more 'safe' bad-boy rock & roll singing about beer drinkin and hot chicks and drugs and explosions and helicopters and motorcycles and snakes and fire and skulls and pitbulls and guns and knives and chains and poppin wheelies and squeelin your tires and hermaphrodite midgets with tatoos. OK?? Talent level - 3 outta 10. There is no jealousy factor because I would never allow myself to be like them. I have integrity. I have never pigeonholed anyone about their variety of musical tastes - Unfortunately I understand why The Crue is popular, just like action movies are popular. baa baa bleat bleat

and you certainly did not. As far as Eminem goes. I was talking to my niece the other day and she loves Eminem. I described it like this. I don't want to like him, I have to like him. He's got unbelievable rhyming skills and his lyrics are cutting edge. You hear a lot of stuff about him that could possibly turn you against him, but I love his stuff. Very inventive lyrics and tempo. His music sometimes leaves a little to be desired but overall it works real well. Just a side note - I was at the Crue concert in Worcester Mass when Tommy fell out of his spinning drum kit into the crowd. I was nowhere near him, but I saw it real good. It scared the shit outta me. I don't wish harm on anyone.
