Japanese Band Shows Beheading Of Hostage At Concert - Dec. 28, 2004
News.com.au is reporting that a Japanese broadcaster has voiced anger and apologized after sponsoring a weekend concert at which a rock band played the Internet footage showing the beheading of a Japanese hostage in Iraq.

Tokyo Broadcasting System said it had no forewarning of the stunt.
"Showing this kind of video in public can never be forgiven on humanitarian grounds," the network said in a statement.

"As the sponsor, we offer deep apologies to the family of (Shosei) Koda, people who came to the concert and other people concerned," the statement said, without naming the band that showed the video.

Footage of Islamic militants decapitating the 24-year-old backpacker was shown on a large screen during Sunday's concert in Urayasu, the city east of Tokyo that hosts Tokyo Disneyland.

KLACK, a Japanese band that was one of 12 groups featured in the concert, showed the video for more than 10 minutes, local media reported.

Koda, described as a gentle but naive young man, became Japan's only hostage executed in Iraq after travelling to Baghdad as a tourist and searching aimlessly for a hotel.

An al-Qaeda linked group associated with Iraq's most wanted man, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, posted a video on the Internet demanding that Japan withdraw its troops from Iraq within 48 hours.

The demand was rejected by Tokyo.

A week later, the group released footage of three hooded men pouncing on Koda and beheading him.

1) Terrorists kidnap Japanese Citizen and threaten to behead him unless Japan meets their demands

2) Japan doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

3) Terrorists follow through with threat.

So now an outspoken Japanese band reminds the people of its government's fuckup. Perhaps they need to be reminded.

It was tasteless to show the video of a man getting beheaded during the bands performance. If you have to show graphic images like that to get the audience attention then you need to be focusing on your musical writing skills instead.

That being said, I would argue that the American military are far worst in the atrocities that they have committed then the terrorist themselves. The terrorist of Al-Qaeda killed 3,000, which itself is a horrendous act, but America had committed an ever greater atrocities in Iraq in the name of freedom. The British medical journal the Lancet has reported that approximately 100,000 Iraqi civilians have died due to the American invasion of Iraq. A United Nations report released in November 2004 found that severe malnutrition in Iraqi children had almost doubled since the U.S. invasion. Evan greater atrocities were committed by US force in Vietnam. If this is how America spreads freedom, hopefully this will be the last time. I don’t think the world deserves anymore in the form that America is delivering it.

Iraq is in a state of chaos today and America leaving would in some regard help stabilize the country. The insurgence would lose its purpose to fight the American military. Iraqis fighting each other would pale in comparison to the destruction that that US military have caused to Fallujah.

This war was basically triggered by 9/11 and we all know that OBL was the real culprit in that. When the U.S. went to war in Afghan, I was all for it...OBL was in Afghan, no prob in going in there and kill the terrorist bastards. But after, a sudden switch to Iraq? Anybody dumb enough to vacation in a war zone isn't losing much by being decapitated. His cranium was probably empty, anyhow.

And fo a band to display this during a performance? Sure, in a free country, why not? Freedom of speech means having the freedom to potentially offend some people. It also means those people are free to complain. But to stop it (the showing of the video) is censorship.

The more people are confronted with the atrocities of war, the more likely one of two things will happen:
1) citizens of the world will unite against the barbarism of war
or
2)people will just be de-sensitized to the violence.

The second option is more likely.

The real reason we're in Iraq is for revenge, oil or any of that cliche bullshit liberal crap that you've been forced to swallow so taht you can seem as "intelligent." We're in Iraq because they broke a treaty of letting U.N. inspectors in to check if they had any WMD's , which was established at the end of the last Gulf War. At the same time Hussein was planning how to hide these weapons in the dessert. It took nearly 3 months to hide them, or atleast thats what one of those Iraqi former government officials said. But think about it a dessert in which we are not familiar with, tehy hid the weapons and it took them 3 months to hide them, they didnt mark or keep any records of where they were hidden, imagin how long it will take us to find them. They're there. Its just the liberal media CNN, MSNBC, and what not, that makes you guys believe "well its all for oil and revenge of his daddy."

The band who did it hasn't been charged/punished for violating any laws. What we have here is the person in charge of the concert apologizing because he disagrees with what they did. That's all. No one is saying they shouldn't be able to do it, but rather that they should've shown common human decency and not done so.

Which is the real issue here, common decency. While the reason behind the 'stunt' is not known - it doesn't matter. Whatever they were trying to do - they could've done another way without disrespecting the family of the victim. The 'news' is out of hand with the atrocities they show, but you kind of expect it these days. However, a concert - regardless of whatever fucked up message they wanted to send - is not the place for such things. Concerts are for entertainment - especially a large multi-band event like this.

The victim may have been a tool for 'vacationing' in Iraq - but that doesn't mean his family should have to constantly suffer.

Of course the Japanese goverment did the right thing by not giving into the terrorist demands. To say otherwise is simply fucking ignorant. If they had backed out - the terrorists would simply continue making similair threats in order to get their way. It would never end. The only way to make sure that it stops is to remove the terrorists altogether.

...and yes, they are terrorists.

America had spy satellites taking pictures of every square foot of Iraq leading to the war. It's certainly an unpleasant occurence, but there are alot of things to consider before condemning this as 'wrong'. And to compare this to the magazine that put that morbid pic of Dimebag on their cover? ............anyone thinking that Saddam was just a tyrant and not a terrorist does not have the facts. Saddam took control of Iraq with terrorist actions. Not the least of which was calling a meeting of hundreds of the highest ranking Iraqi government and military officials when he first took Iraq through a military coup. He then brandished a list of upwards of 100 people who had spoken against him. While Saddam sat on his stage, feet kicked up and smoking cigars, he had his men read the names of these people 1 at a time whereupon they were taken out of the crowd and 'dealt with'. Not 1 person on that list has ever been heard from again. (This was all videotaped). We probably just dug their bodies up in one of the hundreds of mass graves we've found over there (only the ones we've FOUND). If leading a country through the fear of annhilation is only considered a tyrannical act, we would be as naive as the person who posted Saddam is just a tyrant. These acts are called genocide and feed the hand of terror - therefore Saddam is a terrorist. His acts of aggression against his own people and neighbors (Kuwait and Iran to name a couple) are legendary and his victims lie in the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions). Yet people still think this was a plot thought up by President Bush. How stupid can you be??? Did you ever wonder why warlords controlled much of Iraq outside of the biggest cities??? Because Saddam turned his back on their behavior and by ignoring it, he condoned it. For God's sake, he let his son torture the Iraqi National Soccer Team because they didn't do well in the World Cup. C'mon, use your brain instead of the mindless rant of some Democrat on television.

The USA supported Saddam's terrorist actions when he took the power in Iraq, isn't Fox news letting you all know that??
Actually the USA supported Saddam in a very long time, it wasn't until he kicked the American companies out of his country and nationalized the oil industry they started to go hostile on him.

It happened in the same way in Afghanistan. Osama was an ally to the US in the fight against communism, you trained him and gave him weapons. The training and the weapons made it possible for him to murder 3000 innocent people.

The band is just a bunch of moorons. If you heard their sounds you could tell. They are totally nameless. They just did this for a self-advertisement!! The kids didnt even think how serious this gonna be...Tons of japanese websites are blaming about them rightnow.
They wont be punished by law but they would get a massive punishment from the media.
I'm sure they would never be able to play a show anymore.
If you could read japanese take a look.

KLacK is a cool band. regardless. they are a japanese sexpistols.. they are ruthless skuzzy punks who dont give a fuc*ing shit about anything cept how messed up this world is. they go were few bands dare not.

there music may not be great they many not play thier instruments well.but they have attitude.

Also previous before this situation.. they were featured monthly in a japanese music magazine known as CURE/FOOLS MATE but were banned from ever being in it again.

Dont judge this band.
