Producer: COURTNEY LOVE Prevented Early KURT COBAIN Recordings From Appearing On Box Set - Jan. 3, 2005
According to a posting at The Internet Nirvana Fan Club, legendary NIRVANA producer Jack Endino talks in his latest newsletter about working on the NIRVANA "With the Lights Out" box set and explains why the fabled FECAL MATTER (Kurt Cobain's pre-NIRVANA outfit) demo was not included (you guessed it — Courtney Love): "This past summer, we got word that the box set was going to happen, yes, really truly this time. Having been semi-officially researching material for the box with co-conspirator Gillian Gaar since 1998, it was hard to believe it, but sure enough, the starting gun was fired, and it became a frenzy to make sure we had the best sources, and the correct credits and dates. A deadline crunch happened at the end, with Silva Artist Management (for Krist and Dave) and Courtney's people (Peter Asher, for Sanctuary) trying to agree on a final track listing for the box set, as the deadline for the booklet art and layout got nearer. That's why there's a picture of the FECAL MATTER cassette in the booklet, but no music from it; Courtney's people decided that it was not really 'NIRVANA' (i.e. it's Kurt and Dale only, so why share it with Nirvana LLC?) and held it back at the last minute, which is why the set starts with 'Heartbreaker', which would not have been my choice. At the VERY last minute, Silva Mgmt got access to a trove of 'Kurt cassettes' that Courtney has been talking about for years. That's where 'Mrs. Butterworth' and a few other things on the box (mostly acoustic stuff) came from, literally out of the blue in the final weeks of preparation for the box."

Endino notes that Dale Crover is most likely not the drummer on "Mrs. Butterworth" and that, unlike what it says in the booklet, it was probably recorded in 1987. Finally, Endino speculates that future releases will be complete concert recordings as the box includes most of the non-live rarities, outtakes and demos available.

Dont give a shit if they are metal or not, nor do I care how talented people want to debate they were. The music was simple yes but it was also catchy and pleasant to me.

The new box set is a nice set, personally I wouldve like them to have included all thier work and upped the price by 40 bucks or so and then have a definitive collection. In any event any Nirvana fan can and will appriciate this collection of demos and rarities.

but..............i just realized they were just overhyped................i was never a big fan in the frist place but i used to pop a cd in every once and awile.......but now i just fucking flinch when i hear the name............... His guitar playing wasn't great, nor was his singing......but you do have to give him credit for what he did, his music did have a huge impact.........

This shit is so fucking typical..............they are always goona have a few things left...........because i dont remember this being the "complete" collection, correct me if im wrong but still..thats how these things work.....they never have everything you want....thats why they depend on you buying more so you can have "that one song" that you cant get anywhere else.......

COMMENT | I'm no fan of Courtney Love,

but I have to admit she did the right thing by not putting any of Curts pre Nirvana music on this box set. I mean really why should Dave and Krist make money off those songs? They didn't play on them or write them so fuck em, they got enough money already. Especially Dave.
