IRON MAIDEN: 'Number Of The Beast' Single Debuts At No. 3 On U.K. Chart - Jan. 9, 2005
According to CBBC Newsround, IRON MAIDEN's "Number of the Beast" was the "surprise new entry" on the U.K. singles chart, where it landed at No. 3 this week.

EMI released "Number of The Beast" as a single last Monday (Jan. 3) in celebration of IRON MAIDEN's phenomenal 25-year history and in keeping with the recent international chart success of their double DVD, "The Early Years".

The title track of the band's third (and first No 1!) album, this single was a Top 20 hit when originally released in 1982, and is rightly regarded as an all-time MAIDEN classic. This song typifies the band's sound signature of that era, from the chilling spoken introduction to the throat ripping opening scream from Bruce Dickinson. The single was released in three very special limited-edition formats, featuring never-before-available live recordings from the Clive Burr charity shows at Brixton Academy in March 2002.

that is totally killer and proves that real metal never gets old. it's the rest of the chart that needs work. im sure maiden is in great company with usher and 50 cent or whoever else is on the chart. metal rules over all the trends always has and always will.

...in my opinion, the fact that their current single is a 22 year-old song points to how long it's been since Maiden was at the top of their game.

Stevie Harris thinks he just wrote the song. Senile, Alz Hymers? who knows. yes, he was over heard telling someone about the riff and evreyone was like ..."no,no don't beak his heart just go along...go along.....next thing you know we are getting a brand new tune called Rhyme of the ancient mariner"
anyway,

up the irons?
yes up them mofoes!!!

I remember The Beast on the Road Tour like it was testerday. It was the "Summer Strut" in Anaheim, CA with Iron Maiden opening up festivities and then the Scorpions. Maiden kicked all our asses that day with hits like Number of the Beast and 22 Acacia Avenue.....another great day of sun and metal.

Props to Iron Maiden and Up the Irons!

One of the top 5 metal songs of all time. Why the fuck is it being released as a single now ?? Ask Rod Smallwood..........
"Up The Cash Registers" !!!!!! \m/

BTW - The early years DVD package was incredible and a great value considering I paid 12.99.It brought back alot of memories.
Great job putting that together !

'The Number Of The Beast' is only in the charts now on the strength of Maiden's reputation. If another metal band released an equally good song it wouldn't make a dent.

However, that a metal band can still get into the charts in the UK for whatever reasons, is still a good thing.

A well earned success! Up the irons for the old heroes! Number o. t. Beast is such a classic song! It really deserves to be No 3 but of course 1 would be the best!

Not only did Maiden make the top 3 but it was featured on a kids news programme, which Blabbermouth then quoted as it's source! Hahaha, wonders never cease...

Reeks a bit of a cash in to me though, how many live/greatest hits albums and re-released singles can one band have???
