JUDAS PRIEST: New Album To Receive DualDisc Release
- Jan. 11, 2005
|
|
According to MusicTap.net, Epic will celebrate the reunion of the "Painkiller"-era JUDAS PRIEST lineup by issuing a DualDisc for the band's upcoming "Angel of Retribution" title. It is scheduled for March 1 and coinciding with the release of the CD. Rob Halford's first album with the band in 15 years, "Angel of Retribution" was produced by Roy Z, who has previously worked on solo albums from Halford and IRON MAIDEN's Bruce Dickinson. The set will be bundled with a concert DVD shot in a bullring in Valencia, Spain. Songs set to appear on the CD include "Revolution" (first single), "Judas Rising", "Deal With The Devil", "Worth Fighting For" and "Hellrider". (Thanks: C.C. Banana)

Painkiller was THE lowest point for Priest. They have 4 or so good CD's. Defenders (the best), Screaming, Turbo, British Steel...shit, that may be it! The others are mainly filler. Seriously, Priest has some awesome tunes, but they are mostly bleeding vaginal wounds. Not pleasant...and you want to avoid them. Most overrated band in metal history.

DemonFilth...you call Priest the "Most overrated band in metal history." and then go on to single out "Turbo" as one of JP's "good" albums?
Moron....
(I do think that "Painkiller", while a solid album, is a tad overrated.) Can't wait for the new cd....I'm sure all of us will be buying the dual-disc version (concert dvd...hell yeah!)

doesn't matter to me - for it seems - the album is very average or less.
Of course - I'm sure it will have couple of great songs, but to me - a great album is when ALL THE SONGS on the album shine equally.
That's my opinion.

..I just hope that the rest of the album doesn't sound like Loverboy, 'cause "Revolution" sure sounds like "Lovin' Every Minute Of It" with different vocals....I cracked up when I realized that! Listen to it again if you doubt me- You can sing the lyrics right over it! Hopefully, Rob won't incorporate red leather pants into his stage outfit, although I'm sure he has a pair in his wardrobe somewhere....lol!

Probably the best of the lot. Locked In and Turbo are 2 of Priests best. Sure, most of the album is shit...but MOST of their stuff is shit! Painkiller was trash. Just a "trendy" Priest offering. Used to be that all people liked was Defenders and Screaming. Now Painkiller is the one. Point of Entry is probably their 5th best offering. Of course Ram it Down was GOD awful.

Dualdisc is where the have a side for the CD audio, and another for DVD-Audio isn't it? If so, I'm very interested. I like multi-channel music.

...with your take on "Turbo" being the third in three very similar releases (Screaming/Defender/Turbo)..."Defenders" to me signaled the end of the Priest era that began with "British Steel"...(just as "Unleashed" marked the end of the band's first era) as such, "Turbo" was the beginning of the period in which the band lost its footing so to speak....releasing albums that were reflective of the trends of the era...don't get me wrong though, I do like tunes off of each of the Priest records..."Turbo" highlight for me was "Out In The Cold"...title track for "Ram It Down".
The dual disc sports the new album and a live concert filmed last summer in Spain. The track listing will be pretty close to the set the band was performing during those festival shows...

Kull...You are so right. Screaming, Defenders, and Turbo have always been the BIG 3 IMO. They warmed up with POE and British Steel. After TURBO...they just got bad. I saw JP on the Ram it Down tour. It was just bad. I was SO pumped. Place was 1/2 full. Big barren stage. Really seemed that Priest was going through the motions. Hopefully Priest will return to the glory years of the BIG 3. Painkiller is "cool" to like...but it is trash IMO. Funny...it wasn't cool to like it when it came out!

@DemonFilth
Sorry mate, I'll have to disagree with you. Priest warmed up with British Steel and Point of Entry? What about the excellent songs in those two albums, like Metal Gods, Rapid Fire and Desert Plains? What about their 70s stuff? You're not about to say that Turbo was more innovative than Stained Class, are you? You're not gonna tell me that Victim of Changes was a warm up for Rocking All Around the World. Turbo's good tracks were 4.5: 1) Turbo Lover 2) Reckless 3) Locked In 4) Out in the Cold. The 0.5 is Parental Guidance, just because it's a nice teenage party tune.
Priest have no "best album", you simply cannot compare any album with it's predecessors, for they are vastly different. The Painkiller album had everything a good Priest album had. It was no Thrash/Speed Metal album. It had three Speed Metal songs (Painkiller, All Guns Blazing, Metal Meltdown), metal anthems (Hell Patroll, Leather Rebel), epic stuff (Between the Hammer and the Anvil and One Shot at Glory) and one (two if you count in the bonus track from the remasters, Living Bad Dreams) semi ballad (Touch of Evil). This album was just a departure from, the 80s sound and look. Priest existed long before the 80s kicked in, they weren't an "80s band" that "sold out".
BTW, don't forget that all albums after Stained Class, with the exception of Priest... Live!, went gold.
@podoshj
> The Turbo tour was a joke. Remember KK's hair? And his red guitar? And how he pretended > he was eating pussy by using his guitar? Total joke.
Excuse me? The Turbo tour was the first tour after British Steel in which Halford wasn't too stoned to sing. Even in the SFV tour, he did some *TERRIBLE* mistakes, false notes everywhere. His performance in most songs in "Live in Dallas" for example is TOTALLY shit. He managed to reach the highest scream in SFV and then lower it down to a false note. You HAVE to be stoned to do that. The execution of the SFV and DOTF songs in the Turbo (Metal for Life) tour was *WAY* better. KK's Red guitar? That guitar was used in every album after Turbo, including Demolition (while he took it off the road, he uses ESP guitars since then).
Now, my opinion about Revolution, I liked it after the 10th time I heard it but it's too weak for a JP track. From the comments I've heard about the rest of the tracks, they included songs that would fit in each of their eras but with a modern touch. That would be cool but I really want to hear it to believe it. Priest are my favourite band but it's not as if they never dissappointed me.

but I would put British Steel ahead of Sin After Sin, it's a hard choice because Sin After Sin has some all-time metal classics like the Sinner and Diamonds & Rust.
I've been front row in front of KK and he's always done some crazy gestures and movements as he loves to plug in!!

UNLEASHED IN THE EAST was recorded "live" in 1979 & is a BLISTERING album for the time for damn fucking sure. Wicked heavy crunching guitars, excellent tone, kicking double bass and plenty of aggressive attitude.
So for those of you that are "new" to JP, do yourself a favor & pick it up, it will blow your mind.
DemonFilth is fucking retard
If you listen to this album that was released in 1979 you will understand WHY JP is as legendary as they are & how they set the standards for metal bands across the world, DECADES ago. Oh yes, the 2 guitar players in the band can actually compose & execute leads and are actually "real" musicians.

The Judas Fucking Priest!!! if it wasn't for Priest I don't know what I would have done, I don't know maybe sell black market babies or something? anywho, new song has grown abit it isn't that terrible its radio friendly big woop but I like the blues riffing that if anything has been missing in late Priest stufff cause old Priest was filled with bluesy riffs (sign of the times too you know) ex: Victim of Changes...Delivering The Goods etc.,and I knows there has to be at least two scorchers coming our way. So heres to Priest and the tour they are no doubt my Pain Killers. \m/

Good, I'm not the only one who thinks Jugulator fucking kicks ass!!!! Their are some great songs on Demolition as well. As far as favorites go, I think Defenders of the Faith is my favorite, along with Painkiller and Screaming For Vengeance. I also agree with some here who believe that Turbo is VERY underrated. I actually like it... it's fucking wierd, but it's cool. My least favorite, by far (besides Rocka Rolla, which was good for what it was), is Ram It Down. I'm not saying it's bad though.
This new dual CD is gonna be awesome.
