Former POWERMAN 5000 Guitarist To Join NINE INCH NAILS? - Jan. 15, 2005
According to a posting at Audio Aggression, former POWERMAN 5000 guitarist Mike Tempesta (M.33) is rumored to have joined NINE INCH NAILS as the group's touring guitarist.

Tempesta, who is the brother of veteran hard rock/metal drummer John Tempesta (HELMET, ex-ROB ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS), was conspicuously absent from POWERMAN 5000's last two live shows, prompting speculation from the band's fans that he had left the group. This was subsequently confirmed by POWERMAN 5000 frontman Spider One, who stated in an online posting, "Mike has been a HUGE part of the band and contributed to the vibe and songwriting of POWERMAN 5000 for many years, but things are changing once again in the world of PM5K. Mike's off to do other things and most likely will not be a part of future shows or recordings. No big scandal involved, just evolution."

POWERMAN 5000, who currently finishing up the songwriting process for a new studio album, were recently advertised as the support act for SALIVA at five Texas shows. SALIVA eventually played the dates, but without POWERMAN 5000, who, fans had speculated, had cancelled the shows due to continued lineup problems.

Commented Spider One: "We were offered a handful of dates with SALIVA, but because of various band members traveling and visiting family for the holidays, we NEVER agreed to perform. In fact we clearly said NO to all parties involved. Why the venue and promoter continued to use our name in hyping the shows in beyond me. Sorry for anyone who bought tickets expecting to see PM5K, I'm not sure what the deal is with refunds. I want to make it clear that any confusion has nothing to do with POWERMAN, SALIVA or any other band on the bill."

is this band even still together. The line-up keeps changing because nobody wants to stay in this lame ass band. A friendly suggestion for Spider: pick one musical genre and stick with sucking at that. If you make shitty funk core on one album, lame nu-metal on the next, and alternative rock on the next, you'll only confuse your 30 fans.

The thing that has made this band great is how they have changed from album to album, and yet have still delivered. That's a lot harder than taking one sound and failing to ever deviate from it. Yeah, they were nu-metal, but it just goes to show who the true fans were as the phonies drop like flies at the sign of change. Sad to see Mike go, but hey, as Spider said, times change, and if that's what Mike wants to go and do, more power to him.

Let's also not forget that their last CD, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" was essentially an independent release, coming out on Spider's own label, Megatronic Records. Also, it was released months in advance on the band's official website and, as far as I know, Nielsen doesn't even count those sales. And don't you honestly think the majority of the fans who would have cared about it enough to purchase it would have already known at that time they could go ahead and grab it off the site? Besides, it's not even like it was a new studio album or anything; it was nothing more than a bunch of B-sides and rarities.

First off, don't be worried about trent picking this guy. He had no opportunity to write any of the music anyway, so as long as he can play what trent wrote it won't make any difference. nin.com sent me an email about doing a show in london on march 31st to prepare for the release of their new album, so I'm guessing the new nin won't come out until late April. I'm still sad about lohner, finck, and clouser leaving, but before they were with nin i didn't know them, so im sure ill end up liking the new band too, afterall every nin cd brings just about a completely different band and they always kick ass. The anticipation is killing me.
