Disillusioned BLACK SABBATH Fans Launch Petition To Get OZZY OSBOURNE Fired

Disillusioned BLACK SABBATH fans have launched a petition asking Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward to consider firing Ozzy on the grounds of his lack of commitment to BLACK SABBATH over the last few years. They feel that Ozzy's lack of enthusiasm has been holding back the possibility of a new BLACK SABBATH album and that such an album would be more likely were the other members of BLACK SABBATH to enlist a replacement. To view and/or sign the petition, click here. One of the people behind the petition, James Clarke (a.k.a. Nero Kalem), has also included the following "personal note" to this web site: " BLABBERMOUTH.NET gives Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne a lot of publicity with regards to issues that are trivial at best. Some feel that this is only exacerbating the problem of Ozzy's failure to commit to BLACK SABBATH by encouraging him to pursue other interests. Many, including myself, feel that BLABBERMOUTH.NET should also publish this story out of fairness to BLACK SABBATH fans."

I fail to see how this is NOT metal related...it's related to the band that created metal for the most part. But I agree here, Ozzy sucks these days, can't sing and he's just a puppet for the mainstream metal music industry. I still personally think Ozzy was the best singer Sabbath ever had, but that was a very long time ago and he just can't do it anymore.

to above post, I disagree, Diary was NOT the only great solo album he released. In any case, even if they DID record a new studio album, it would probably not be as good as one of the first 5 they did. Remember those bonus tracks they did a couple of years ago? They were WEAK.
A new solo record will probably still be better than a reunited Sabbath album...quite unfortunate, but that's the truth. Even when Dio came back, Dehumanizer was not nearly as good as Mob Rules or Heaven & Hell...admit it: I'm right on this one!!!!!

Bark at the moon was a great song, and there are a lot of good songs from the Lee era, but overal I personally (as in my own tastes) find the albums as a whole to be lacking...but again, just my own personal taste.

I'm also going to mention that I read half of "The Headbanging History of Heavy Metal" today...despite the cheesy title, it's a sweet book that will teach you a lot about the progression from Sabbath towards todays metal. It took me nearly 5 hours to get through half the book and I'm only up to the part where Cliff Burton dies. This isn't some book put together by people who don't know what they're talking about, it's a book written and contributed to by guys who were around at the beginning
such a sweet book, I suggest you all check it out.

Ah first off Black Sabbath needs OZZY a whole lot more then OZZY needs them. No matter what Ozzy puts out it will sell good. If Black Sabbath even tried to put out an album now without Ozzy I would be shocked if it sold more then 250,000 copies. Ozzy could fart for 60 mins. on a CD and it would sell 250,000 copies.

Much to the obvious chagrin of a couple of posters, Tony Iommi knows better than to try to put out another Black Sabbath with one of its also-ran singers. He incurred the wrath of the majority of Sabbath fans by putting out progressivle crappier albums by progressively crappier line-ups and still calling it Black Sabbath - and he knows he'd get his nuts cut off and thrown at him by enraged fans if he tried that again. Hell, Seventh Star wasn't even a Sabbath album. It was a solo album until his record company forced him to call it Sabbath. How many other post-important period line-ip albums suffered the same fate? Face it, kids - it's the original line-up or nothing.

Let's face facts here people. Sabbath had PLENTY of years to do some WITHOUT Ozzy. They were pretty much over & done with until Ozzy decided to reunite & bring them back into the world of "active" music. The only way that band will really ever get ANY worthwhile recognition is if Ozzy is associated with them and THEY know it.
It's kinda like the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger. Keith Richards on his own can't do shit, neither can Mick Jagger. Together they can sell out stadiums even though they have not released and album that is anywhere near the magnitude of their older stuff. I don't think they even play ANY Rolling Stones songs from the 90's on the radio, do they? (by the way I hate the stones, but I can't deny their legendary works)
Ozzy manages to stay relative in today's rock world, unlike most of the GREAT metal bands of the 80's who are flipping burgers (if they are that lucky). He can still play 15,000 seat arenas as a solo act.
My final word is that it cannot stay 1978 or 1982 forever. Things change. Some people evolve with time, others do not. Are any of you people still making the same pay as you were at 16? Sorry to hear that if you are.

Ok, do you know me? Why make assumptions when I'm a completely unknown to you?
Do you know why I wrote this petition? Not because I particulary WANT another Black Sabbath album without Ozzy (The founding membership is my favorite lineup)
The fact is that Ozzy gets a lot of publicity through this website, and I'm sure their publicist is not only aware of this, but checks Blabbermouth.net daily.
With that in mind, if word reaches Ozzy that Black Sabbath fans are beginning to mutiny against him, it might actually motivate him to get his act together and pull his weight as a member of Black Sabbath.
That said, despite what you might think about Ozzy's ability to stay alive in the rock world, I'm afraid you're very disillusioned.
The Osbournes show was humiliating to heavy metal and its fans, as was Ozzy's decision to record a duet with Kelly Osbourne.
A quick peruse through Blabbermouth.net's mentions of Ozzy will let you know that Ozzy has recently been given deer (Yes, DEER!) as a birthday present.
He's recording an album of covers. Of bands that aren't really even metal bands.
Ozzy recently expressed interest in playing the childcatcher in a London procuction of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.
As a result of Ozzy losing his testicles to MTV and his wife, Ozzy couldn't sell enough tickets to himself as a solo act this summer, which is why Black Sabbath was suddenly added to the bill.
Yes people.... Ozzy sang for Black Sabbath for the sole purpose of selling tickets to the Ozzfest. Face it, Ozzy has no selling power as a solo artist anymore.
I mean, c'mon... anybody who is really convinced that Ozzy has any credibility as a heavy metal icon anymore needs to wake up snd smell the coffee.

What metal was around before Sabbath that he should cover if he wants to pay tribute to his influences? They should fire Ozzy because they've been sitting on their hands waiting to record something and Ozzy isn't letting it happen. He's getting in their way. Is Ozzy even working on any original solo material? He doesn't tour anymore (except for Ozzfest). If Sabbath brought back Rob Halford for an album, you can be sure they'd put asses in the seats. But the thing is, if they want to record and Ozzy is getting in the way of that, then they need to get rid of him. Blaze Bayley would be good...

Here's the bottom line: Sharon Osborne runs Black Sabbath. She decides when they play, she decides who is in the band (remember the deal with Bill Ward almost not playing), she decides who gets the money, she puts together the contract, and she decides what they record.
Sharon is the muscle behind Sabbath at this point, and even though Ozzy DOES deserve the boot for being a fucking disgrace to the heavy metal scene, he isn't going anywhere.

Sorry man, but I just don't see it. Being a heavy metal icon in no way contradicts being influenced by non-metal artists, or suggests the he should forswear other genres. Ozzy never claimed to be some sort of puritanical scenester. And the Prince of Fucking Darkness thing was a joke. One that marketing ran way with. Should he then, hide his influences and not do things he wants to do to protect a joke/marketing phrase?

I agree with some people that Ozzy has lost his edge or whatever when it comes to singing, but the guy was in the best metal band ever! Withouth Black Sabbath, there probably wouldn't be any other bands out there. Ozzy also made Black Sabbath the best too. When they got rid of Ozzy, they sucked because it just wasn't the same. When they got back Ozzy he made them really big again. If you're a fan of Black Sabbath and you sign that petition, then you aren't a true fan of metal or the band because there is no one on Earth that would make Black Sabbath sound great because only Ozzy fuckin' Osbourne can do that! 'Nuff said.

I could tell whos post I was reading by the way NERO KALEM writes. He carries a certain level of intelligence. This is something rarely displayed at this site. You all like ripping and tearing at each other. Why?
Anyway, Ozzy is a has been just like Axl Rose. It's time Ozzy was shown the door. He lost his balls and his dignity a long tome ago. I say bring back anyone who's willing to work for a living! I prefer Rob Halford, Gillan or Dio.
I worshipped Ozzy for several years. Now, I can't believe it... I dislike the man now. He was my IDOL and now he is a walking comedy central.
Blizzard, DOM, SOTD,BATM and NMT are great albums. The rest are okay. DTE, however, is a terrible album. It's time Ozzy picks a better solo line-up, or retire. As for Sabbath... I think Ronnie James Dio deserves the first phone call and I bet he would jump.
Now, to sign the petition. That NERO is dedicated fan. I respect him for trying. That's more than we can say for Ozzy Osbourne!

You make some good points about Ozzy loosing some of his imange, I guess that is what you could call it. But you're nuts if you think he has lost his appeal as solo artist. I've been to just about all the Ozzfest and after the first two times Black Sabbath played and even thoughs times I couldn't believe how many people were saying in the crowd that they wish Ozzy just play. Ozzy has no problem headlining Ozzfest by himself. Hell most of the audience wasn't even alive when Ozzy was in Sabbath. I'm willing to bet most of the audience couldn't even name more then 5 Black Sabbath songs. Yet I'm sure most could name 10 Ozzy songs.
Oh yeah......... Ozzy's cover songs was nothing more then him having to come in and sing. I'm sure he recorded them all in a matter of days. Not very time consuming on his part. A new Black Sabbath album would be very time consuming for him. One thing alot of us look past is how busy most celeberities really are. Many have a very hard time to set aside a week or two, more less six months plus to create a new album and another six months plus worth of promoting and touring. These guys aren't in there 20's or 30's anymore. I'm sure most of them are very comfortable with there life's. There solo stuff is more of a hobby for them at this point and don't require anywhere near the time of new Black Sabbath album would take. Also must remember it wasn't that long ago that these guys were not on the greatest of terms. I think if anything that is what is keeping a new Sabbath album from appearing. I think Ozzy and I'm sure the others know there is a good chance things just might not work out between them. They may just be comfortable were there at in life.
In the end I could care less if Black Sabbath ever creates a new album. There legacy has been written and chances are a new album would never live up to any expectations people would expect. Even though I think Tony Iommi solo stuff is pretty good.

Remember Ozzfest 2001? Yeah, it sucked because of Linkin Park and Papa Roach, but soon after there was almost an official announcement of a Black Sabbath tour with Disturbed opening for them and a new studio album. What happened?
The Osbournes did...a gamble on the family's part that backfired big time. It brought them fame but also exposed a side of them that no one in metal wanted to see...Ozzy going from metal madman to bumbling moron, Sharon a hoighty toighty rich bitch, Kelly a spoiled brat and Jack a chubby slob...that's the initial interpretation the rest of the world got of the First Family of Metal. All of a sudden the media got a hold of them and anything true and worthy (like say, a new Sabbath album) got put on the backburner...
I think everyone needs a sample of the Sweet Leaf and needs to calm down...a new Black Sabbath album would not only bring a fitting end to the legacy but would be a marketing dream come true. Didn't Bill Ward say he was looking forward to playing with Sabbath this year? Isn't Rick Rubin doing...something...in England?
The new album is gonna happen...with Ozzy. The reason he did the covers album was probably to give something new to the fans because the record company was gonna release the box set with or without it...I for one am looking forward to "Sympathy for the Devil"...as for Sabbath, it might happen this year, it might not. And the guys may be old, but they still got it, even Ozzy.

how many singers they have had and what he might be doing at the time or that he is in fact doing other shit than an ozzy or black sabbath album, the fact remains that black sabbath is with ozzy and noone else. everyone that came after ozzy were replacements and nothing else, he started with sabbath and until he dies he is and always will be what defines black sabbath

I wish it would, but Ozzy is never going to commit, Bill Ward won't do it without Ozzy, and chances are that Geezer won't either. Every time Sabbath plays live, we will be stucking hearing the same songs from the first 4 albums. Sabbath is one my all time favorite bands. I wish it were different, but I just don't see it happening.

You know, Geezer doesn't really want to do a new album either. He related their new material to the new Star Wars. Meaning? It wasn't nearly as good as their old stuff.
Keep the bad stuff in the can. I'll be happy knowing that the Sabb legacy is safe. If they come up with some great stuff, cool, put it out. Even Sharon can't disagree with that.
Firing Ozzy makes zero sense. I hate to say it, but a good 90% of the rock world could care less about Sabbath sans Ozzy. Ozzy sang GREAT this last summer and whoever says he didn't probably didn't even see Sabbath '04.

Sabbath is not doing another studio album. If they do, it will never meet people's expectations. Ozzy will want to write the lyrics. They'll probably replace Bill with a drum machine for half of the songs. It'll probably be overproduced. People will be let down.
Now, if you want to put out a petition to have Sabbath stop playing the same 8 or 10 fucking songs and perform some stuff post-Vol. 4, I'd be all for that.

Metalhead91 asks if anyone evens knows what Sabbath did after Ozzy. I guess he was born in '91. Because if he was older, he'd know that Heaven and Hell (1980) and The Mob Rules (1981) were two of the best albums Sabbath ever did, maybe two of the best metal albums ever. And Ronnie James Dio was the singer on it.
And for those of you who say Ozzy is Black Sabbath, you've got it wrong. His non-commital attitude is part of what got him fired the first time, and Tony Iommi carried the torch for the band ever since. His guitar playing, not Ozzy's subpar vocals, is what made Sabbath. Also, Tony owns the rights to the name because Ozzy didn't care enough to even buy at least part of the rights.

Sabbath would be absolutely irrelevant without Ozzy at the helm.
Noone (save for a few obsessed 50-somethings) would give a fucking toss about a new Sab record without Ozzy on the mic.
Remember all the Sab misfires after their last great vocalist Ronnie James Dio exited the band? This band has no future in terms of creating new music of any importance with or without Ozzy...the appeal of Sabbath is that of nostalgia and warm feelings...Iommi and the boys are decades beyond their creative apex, and centuries beyond any notion that they could create contemporary music that would stand up today.
Why do you think Ozzy has no sense of urgency to record new material with Sabbath? He has surrounded himself with young talent since the day he walked out on Sabbath after they toured with Van Halen some 20 years ago...and the reason? Because he felt that Sabbath was getting left in the dust in terms of their relevance to metal and hard rock. Come on folks, if he was convinced of that by witnessing the arrival of Van Halen, what hope could he have for Sabbath now, some 20 years after the fact...

When debating the state of Black Sabbath many people focus on who's singing - which misses the point entirely. Who is is more Black Sabbath than Tony Iommi? No one. Tony Iommi is a working musician who, as you pointed out, is far past his creative nadir and even though he virtually single-handedly created heavy metal he pretty much works the nostalgia circuit. Doesn't it stand to reason that, as a performer, he would want to play the biggest shows - get his music heard by the greatest number of people - and take home the biggest paycheck he possibly can? Of course it does. So - in order to achieve that goal, wouldn't he want to tour with the most popular line-up of Sabbath? Of course he would. And the real metal world knows that the most popular Black Sabbath line-up is the original one and THAT is who Tony Iommi chooses to tour with.
What's always good for a laugh is how certain posters get so bent out out shape by this original line-up thing. Here's a question for these malcontents - why is it that EVERY also-ran singer has had to sing Ozzy Osbourne-era songs, but Ozzy has NEVER had to sing theirs. And the the knee-jerk "Because he can't" response - while not without a modicum of truth - doesn't really answer the question. Anybody?
Finally - Tony Iommi knows there is one and only one Sabbath line-up he can take on tour without fear of getting his nuts cut off and thrown at him by enraged fans.
And that's as it should be.

I loved Dio too, but they already did a reunion album with him back in the 90's.
Doing a new album without Ozzy would defeat the whole purpose of Sabbath doing a new album. The only reason anyone wants a new album is to hear the chemistry of the original line-up one more time. I really don't feel like hearing anymore "Sabbath" albums wihtout Dio or Ozzy. This year is Sabbath's 35th anniversary. I personally think that the rumors our true and they are recording a new album with Rick Rubin as we speak. Fuck all the Ozzy haters.....
