Benefit Gig For Former IRON MAIDEN Drummer CLIVE BURR Scheduled For March - Jan. 19, 2005
According to a posting on the IRON MAIDEN fan site MaidenFans.com, a benefit gig to help raise awareness and money for the MS (multiple sclerosis) society, which helps Clive Burr, former MAIDEN drummer, in his illness, will be staged in March.

This year's show, which is scheduled to take place on March 19 at Ruskin Arms in London, will see a wide variety of rock artists gathering to raise awareness and funds for the Clive Burr MS Trust.

The IRON MAIDEN Fan Club will be running a booth at the show and a special limited edition gig t-shirt will be issued for only 10 GBP.

Tickets start at 12.50 GBP.

Burr is suffering from multiple sclerosis — a disease of unknown cause. The disorder is causing him intermittent numbness and can affect his balance. At present there is no known cure for MS, although he is helping test new drugs in the hope that his body response may contribute to a cure.

Clive joined the band at the very end of December 1979 and played on the first three albums — "Iron Maiden", "Killers" and "Number of the Beast" — and toured extensively with the band over this groundbreaking period before leaving in early 1983.

Its debateable that he's better than Nicko, although he was great. Never heard he was gay before, but I have heard that he refused to discuss his firing. That would suck if Maiden really did that, although the early '80's are a different time than today.

I had an aunt who had MS. Its really horrible.

its always cool that maiden wants to help one of their own...seeing him on the early years dvd(the interview portion) broke my heart a little cos we all know he is ill...best of luck to him...now get that number of the beast single to the states!

and the very fact thats this is being held at ruskin arms is mind-blowing! this place is so historic to maiden. if i had the cash and time i'd fly to the uk just for this show..seeing maiden at such a tiny club would only be topped by seeing the star cavern in germany reopen for one show--sabbath

The operative word here is "groundbreaking". I have always maintained that this period of Iron Maiden history was EXTREMELY influential to many bands/musicians. Killers and Number of the Beast...(I'm gettin' emotional) good God those were the template, in my humble estimation. Fucking kickass albums. Period.

I hope they make a ton a of cash off this. Clive was indeed an excellent drummer.

he's not better.
Maiden already did a gig for him.
But it's great to see Maiden helping ex band members.
They're all still in touch, as you can see on the new dvd, and even the earliest band members, who never recorded anything, not even a demo, are interviewed and feel like they're part of the family, which is great. Some other bands should learn how to treat ex members with the respect they deserve.
Long and Healthy Life to Cliff.

killer drummer, listen to the drumming on phantom of the opera or drifter. Great tracks, improved enormously because of clive

Normally I don't notice drumming as much as the rest of the band be but clives i actually pay attention to.

I always thought people knew the parting was mutual, because of the illness. I've never heard anything other than that.

I dont ever remember once hearing that Clive was let go from Maiden cause he was gay-for god sakes people grow up!! That sounds so childish and shows ingornace on getting facts. If you watched the new dvd, Clive said he was let go at the end of the Number of the Beast tour-for reasons he didnt say , nor does the band, but im sure they had damn good valid reasons for letting go one of heavy metals greatest drummers, gay or not! Maiden is a family, and privacy on personal matters are kept out of the public. The fact that they love and care for Clive and all past members shows just how important this " family " is.
Steve Harris had a vision of what Maiden was to be, and to get there, he needed the right people with him at differnt stages of deleopment. It cant be an easy thing to ask your friend of so many years , to step down, but he must of felt he had to in order for the band to progress.
Now, having said that, Clive Burr is a Killer drummer and still my favortite. I was a Maiden fan from the very first album and being a guitar player myself, never paid attention to drums that much til i heard Iron Maiden.
If you watch the new DVD and look at Clive in action , from clubs to the mainstages, hes awsome to watch and here. A good tune to watch him play on is " Remember Tomorrow", how his soft laid back style and nice fills in the slow parts truley lets us see the skills of one of rocks all time greats
All the best mate-up the irons
