MÖTLEY CRÜE's 'Red, White & Crüe' On Track To Sell 80K Copies First Week

MÖTLEY CRÜE's two-CD "greatest hits" collection, "Red, White & Crüe", is poised to sell between 75,000 and 80,000 copies during its first week of release, making it the week's biggest debut, according to Hits Daily Double. In hot pursuit will be "All the Best" from TINA TURNER (Capitol), who, with the help of a Starbucks campaign and an Oprah appearance on Friday, could catch the CRÜE. Meanwhile, Capitol's "Grammy Nominees 2005", which also streeted yesterday (Feb. 1), is on track to sell over 50,000.
In addition to all of the band's all-time classics, "Red, White & Crüe" includes three brand-new CRÜE songs (the new single "If I Die Tomorrow", "Sick Love Song", and a cover of the ROLLING STONES' "Street Fighting Man") recorded by the group's original lineup (except "Street Fighting Man", which features A PERFECT CIRCLE drummer Josh Freese).

Can't even admit 80K is what retail store SALES were registered and it is how it applies to all artists. Didn't RUSH sell just 20K 1st wk, of their latest covers? DEAL w/it 'Bastards': CRU:E's still 'Red Hot'...to the top, beyond, Red Hot!
I have my Motley Records Label CRU:E CDs and really not into 'hits' packages, but it would be nice if they "Take themselves to the Top" so CRU:E haters shut their talking-asses once and for all!

I don't really listen to Meshugah but I have respect for their talent. They are way more talented than Crue, hands down. I like old Crue but really, they will do well on the fact that people still miss the eighties(For some reason) and it's poppier like alot of music today. You have to give props where they are due. Same with Preist, not a big fan but you have to concede that they influenced alot of metal that we see today.

I don't really dig them but I must say there are songs you get into by them. There are tons of bands in the world like that. Yopu like a couple of tunes but hey, c'mon....not exactly your thing. I can respect them for what they did in the eighties but they are pulling on peoples wishes for a better day...so am I though....the music industry nees a revitalization.

I'll be the first to say I was surprised they could sell 15,000+ seats in Detroit. I'll be the second to say they are just out to make some cash. But hey, I had no problem paying $25 to get a decent upper deck seat & I'll enjoy hearing Too Fast for Love & Too Young too Fall in Love with the other classics from 82-83 for the first hour of the show. I have no problem pretending like it was 1983 again for night & enjoying it. After that, I'll get some overpriced beer, watch some boring & wanky guitar solo, yet another drum solo, remember that I really did like the song Wild Side, watch all the nimrods put their lighters up to Home Sweet Home, hear some token new song & then back home to reality. Who gives a rats ass how many albums they move, tickets they sell, or even if they make it through the whole tour without hurting each other or Mick's new hip falling apart. It's just a trip down memory lane & nothing more. After that, they'll put that movie "The Dirt" out, the same people that are paying to see these shows will pay to go see it, Motley will make some more cash & they all go back into rock obscurity with fatter wallets. All that aside, I'd like to know where the guy that said Slayer moved 100,000 copies of Reign In Blood back in the first week of release in 1986 got his numbers from. All time classic thrash album or not, I find that hard to believe.

it was pretty common knowledge that Slayer's 'RIB" did sell 100,000 it's first week. It went gold by the end of the year, it's not like it's a stupendous secret. I could see how it would be hard to believe for a Motley Crue fan, however.

who cares if they sold 80k. Why is everyone making a big deal out of it??? people should make a big deal if they go on to sale 500,000 or a million copies. Then you can brag about it.... Just cuz the band had (somewhat) strong first week sales doesn't mean crap.... They could fall off the planet the second week.... Lets make a big deal about it if the album even stays in the top 50 billboard charts after the third week

I love Slayer so this isn't meant to be antagonistic (& I do work in this industry) but I'm almost completely positive that Slayer never went gold in the US until Seasons. Then RIB & SOH both followed almost immediately. They were always looked at as an oddity in the industry because they had a huge live draw but didn't really sell that many records. At the time there were a lot of hair bands that sold many more units but could only draw a small fraction of the live crowd Slayer drew. - I could be wrong with those #s but I don't think so. And remember that was before soundscan and industry people usually tend to inflate the actual #s.

Sorry, but almost selling out every arena venue that you play and selling 85,000 cd's in your first week of release sounds quite relevent to me. Doesn't matter who you are. What exactly is your definition of relevent.
Just saw Slayer on tour with Killswitch playing in a club for 600 people. How relevent is that. Killswitch is relevent today but what has Slayer done lately that changed the world?? Is that tour relevent?? How does one get this moniker of relevent. How many bands do you think are around for 23 years and still changing the face of music with everything they do. Slayer, Megadeth, Def leppard, who pray tell!!!!!!!! I am really asking here so someone please answere me.
Plus I don't think that you have to sell a billion records or sell out shows to be relevent to music. Their are lots of artist who don't so either of those things and are still relevent to the landscape of music. I guess my whole point here is who are you to pick and choose who is releventa and who is not.
