Petition Launched To Get DIMEBAG Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

A petition has been launched to get late PANTERA/ DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Dimebag was gunned down by a deranged fan on December 8, 2004 while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame "honors the legendary performers, producers, songwriters, disc jockeys and others who have made rock and roll the force in our culture that it is," according to the organization's official description. Dimebag was obviously legendary, and certainly helped shape the culture and the future of music. While the definition of the term "rock & roll" is somewhat ambiguous, the Hall does have a heavy metal category. Inductees are announced annually during a December ceremony. From my knowledge, his first album was released earlier than 1985, so it HAS been over 20 years. Cowboys wasn't Pantera's first album.

Yes, Angerinc is correct. Only it's 25 years after your first release. Maybe they should make an exception for those like Dimebag who "die in the line of duty" and pay homage to fallen heros.
Nevertheless, only in the event if anything changes within the ranks of The RnR Hall of Fame, bands like DP, Pantera, Sabbath, Skynard, Motorhead, and KISS will never even be nominated. Which is why we honor those like Springsteen, Mellancamp, and other mainstream "safe" acts. I'm suprised the Ramones and Clash even got in.
RIP Darrell ! A real guitar hero.

But, I don't think the Assholes at the RnR Hall of Fame will give a Fuck.
To them Heavy Metal is Not "Real" Music.
Although, People like Dimebag, Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai, George Lynch, Yngwie and so many other metal guitarists past and present can run circles around most of the guitar players that are in the Hall, already.

Besides, based on music alone, Black Sabbath deserves to be in there much more than Dimebag or the rest of Pantera.

It's a Fuckin' Travesty that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tries to pass itself off as being legit.
But, Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy (solo), Motorhead, Deep Purple and so many other Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands are NOT in the Hall and probably Never will be considered for inductions.
As a matter of Fact the ONLY Metal band that is in the Hall of Fame is AC/DC.
Oh, but Parliament-Funkadelic is in there along with soo many other bands that were popular for like two or three years.
Eventhough bands like Ozzy/Sabbath, Maiden and Priest have been packing arenas for over Twenty years and have many Multi-Platinum albums throughout there careers.

This What You have to do to get inducted into the Hall:
Performers
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

So, I guess Iron Maiden and Judas Priest weren't significant enough??

I know he's not Metal (so cool your engines) but he was a well loved/respected/influential guitarist whose life was also tragically cut short.....correct me if I'm wrong.

I could go on all day about bands who sound, look, or act similar, but I don't give a shit about musical politics. personally I think the only reason that the ramones were inducted is because of joey's death that might seem irrational to some but that's what I think. The hall of shame is a joke sure there are the legends like elvis presley and the beatles that deserve induction but you can't turn your nose at those in metal that have done more in the world of music than a lot of the musicians that have received induction metal edge did a story about it a while ago the fans should vote not a bunch of joe blows who look down on hard rock and metal it is surprising that ac/dc and aerosmith got in but until the voters of the hall of shame get their heads out of their asses I doubt it's going to happen

You conveniently forget that most of the players you say were so much better or more innovative than Dime (Skolnick, Marty Friedman, etc.) were also admirers of his playing. I've been playing guitar for 13 years, and in that time have met many guitar shredders -- who could probably rattle off just as many obscure names, if not more -- who had nothing but respect for Darrell's ability as a riff artist and soloist. You may not like the fact that Pantera were partly responsible for the so-called "mallcore" movement, but that doesn't make them a bad band nor does it make Dime a bad musician.
Most of Dime's followers may have sucked, but that has nothing to do with his own skills as a guitarist.

Can't we just let the man rest? Christ, I think if Dimebag could see all this he'd be fucking embarassed. I'd like to think (in retrospect, at least) he's probably o.k. getting gunned down while doing what he loved most at around his peak. That's much better then getting stomach cancer or something. No disrespect to Dime but the Hall of Fame is about long carrers as well. You have to have your first album released 25 years ago. I am not going to sign it just because he died. If it is true that he goes in, then many dead people like Randy Rhodes should have been in there a long time ago. Randy is much more influenical than Dime.
Being dead does not mean you are better after you are gone. If he was alive today, would you sign it? I understand having a legacy live on but it will and when that 25 years hits, he will be there.

This will never happen.... but there needs to be a Heavy Metal Hall of Fame with the first generation of inductees: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Scorpions
The next group should be: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Death
Then: Pantera, Iced Earth, Testament... once they are all eligible (Testament would only have a couple more years, but IE would have about 7) Pantera would get inducted by the time they start getting the key bands of the 90s in there.

Sorry to say it but its all fine and well trying to get dime in now, but this would never have been at the forefront of anybodys mind before 2 months ago. It proves the point about the whole rock star deaths thing.

One,Is igned it,just out of repsect for dime,just to possible go there oen day and see a guitar he used and shit,it would be badass.2,fuck judas priest,I still do not see the big deal about them.I mean,hey,muchr espect for bieng a metal band back in the days,but,I just can not listen to that guy sing,its horrible.And kiss,fuck kiss,kiss is not metal.The metal hall of fame would be fucking aweosme,but,where would they put it?Not europe,cause,well,european bands suck,well,most of them anyways,all sound the god damn same.Crappy wannabe thrash bands and shitty death metal bands.Chances are it would either be in NY or LA?
