METALLICA Among Biggest Moneymakers In 2004
- Feb. 9, 2005
|
|
|
METALLICA were among the biggest pop-music earners in 2004, according to Rolling Stone's list of top moneymakers, the New York Post said on Wednesday.
The San Francisco-based heavy metal act placed third on the chart after taking in about $43 million in 2004, thanks to their "Madly in Anger With the World Tour", and sales of 1.4 million copies of their old records, CNN reports.
PRINCE took in $56.5 million to place him first on Rolling Stone's annual list of top 50 moneymakers of 2004.
PRINCE, whose chart-topping hits include "Purple Rain" and "1999", beat out pop diva MADONNA, who placed second, with $54.9 million, thanks to her "Re-Invention Tour", four children's books and the "American Life" CD, according to the Post.
Rolling Stone bases its annual list on ticket and record sales, publishing and other related revenue.
Rolling Stone magazine's list of top moneymakers:
01. PRINCE: $56.5 million 02. MADONNA: $54.9 million 03. METALLICA: $43 million 04. SIR ELTON JOHN: $42.9 million 05. JIMMY BUFFET: $36.5 million 06. ROD STEWART: $34.6 million 07. SHANIA TWAIN: $33.2 million

I guarantee you that Metallica played two or three times as many shows as any of those other wastes of spaces did. Those other fuks were charging in the upwards of $100 - $300 per ticket.

I fucked up and forgot, I was bobbing my head to one of Metallica's dope jams. "We Did it Again" with my niggas Swizz Beats and Ja Rule. Now that shit alone was worth at least a couple of mill. Maybe Metallica should get Pharell or Dr. Dre to produce their next album, put some street flava on that bad boy. Make all the kids bob they heads!!!

I stopped giving my money to metallica after st. anger and the summer sanitarium tour. I should have done it sooner. They honestly play the same fucking show these days.....basically some good, old shit. Then Fuel, then some old shit, then somthin off st. anger.....yeah, theyre shows rely heavily on pre-black album shit. Which is weird because they have like 3 other CD's since.....so what does that say about the new music??

I take it most of them charged that to take care of their old age pensions and for what criswell said "this is a public service annoucement for not following trends and planned parenthood make sure you monitor your kids actions so they don't try to emulate their favorite artists be yourself not something you could never be" and that is all just say no to trends

Metallica and pop-music. Can't say that about Slayer or Kreator among many others.
I saw Some Kind Of Monster. Yep, it was interesting, but painful to watch. It's actually kind of...well, gay. I don't hate Metallica, but I certainly am not the fan I was back in the day. Oh, and the way Mustaine was portrayed...that was pathetic.

That tour kicked ass, and I'd gladly pay another 65 bucks to see it again. (Not the Godsmack opening though.. they sucked.)
As for the comments about how Mustaine was "portrayed" in SKOM... He wasn't portrayed, he ACTUALLY said that stuff. That's right, no script and nobody was holding a gun to his head, and they didn't edit his voice lol. His music is worse than Metallica's and he openly admits it, as we all saw. It's a fact so stop bitching and deal with it.

Seriously, he's mad because of Metallica's popularity. It must be hard being so much better in writing music and seeing a simple band with simple music for 10 years old retarded childrens having bigger success.
Imagine your girlfriend (fame) leaving you for a dumb and ugly retard (Metallica) who get girls a lot more than you when you know you're 1000 times better (Megadeth) than the ugly bastard (Still Metallica) You'd be pissed!!

charged $80 and $50 for tickets to his shows...and you got a copy of his new album when you bought a ticket. He played at least as many shows as Metallica, sold out a higher percentage of shows than Metallica did, and I'll guarantee he outperformed them. I've seen Metallica 3 times and Prince once, and he just BURIED them...sad, but true.
blessed be.

Most of the smaller metal bands (many are great) who charge $20-30 for tickets play in small clubs with low charges, play for mostly 90 mins..and very low production...
Metallica plays bigger avenue - (with charges, insurance being hiked by the venue owners annualy)-metallica plays for more than 2.5 hours non-stop...In toronto they played for 2hrs and 45 mins. Sometime these guys end up paying penalties for noise and exceeding timelimit...IF you are a band playing in these big areas your ticket price is bound to exceed $50.00..It is the law of supply and demand... It is unfair to compare metallica to Opeth...regarding ticket prices..
But when you compare the band to big name acts like Rolling stone, U2, MAdonna, Paul Mcartney...Metallcia are actually have much reasonable prices... MAdonna and some similar pop acts were charging over $120 to $300 per ticket and only performed for 90 mins...

Sooo that is why I keep on hearing about him.. he does make money
About Metallica Now: Sellouts.. hmm, They were making money before they changed their sound... they were selling Records before the lightened up their sound!!! Sellingout means..?!? Changing to make more money and selling more records.. Metallica was making money and selling records.. I don't like anything starting from Re Load and up.. But meh.. They still rip live!! They still play the oldies LIVE... that's what matters.. People are allowed to get older.. ie Metallica.. And For them Sueing Napster.. they did go pretty far with it.. BUT IT"S THEIR FUCKING MUSIC.. THEY ARE ALLOWED TO GET MAD IF SOME LITTLE PUNKS WANNA RIP IT OFF THE NET AND LISTENING FOR FREE.. IT IS TECHNICALLY STEALING!!!! I donno.. I am on the fence with downloading music from the internet.. I don't have a downloading program on my computer.. If the band doesn't mind then fuck whatever.. but if they chose to get mad about it.. SO BE IT.. they made it.. they spend money in the studio to make it.. which they gotta pay the label back.. they spent the last 10- whatever years perfecting their art/music.. just for someone to rip it off...then they get mad and suddenly their sellouts and they're just in it for the money.. BAH.. fuck that
