LEMMY's Solo Album to Feature Collaboration With METALLICA - Feb. 10, 2005
Long Beach Press Telegram is reporting that MOTÖRHEAD's legendary frontman, Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister has set "Lemmy & Friends" as the title of his upcoming solo album, featuring collaborations with members of METALLICA, Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, ex-NIRVANA), REVEREND HORTON HEAT, THE DAMNED and SKEW SISKIN. "I've got seven tracks already done," declares Lemmy.

The veteran heavy metal rocker will pause long enough to find out Sunday night whether MOTÖRHEAD has won the Grammy for best metal performance for "Whiplash", a METALLICA tune they covered on the album "Metallic Attack: A Tribute to Metallica".

For his upcoming "Lemmy & Friends" album, Lemmy says he'd also like "to get Jeff Beck, and I want to get Janet Jackson to do this great lost single called 'Black Cat'."

MOTÖRHEAD are celebrating their 30th year in the business, and the group plan to head out on a stateside tour March 15. Lemmy says he's still loving being on the road after three decades: "I spend more time there than I do in my apartment."

But the outspoken Brit declares that the heightened security at concert venues is "killing rock 'n' roll. I can't believe all this running everything like a %$*%& military operation! It's no fun. You have to have 18 different-color passes ... you can go here but not go there. I say just let everybody in, and if we don't like them, we'll throw them out! It's insane."

The venue for the group's Los Angeles appearance hasn't been firmed up yet, but he says, "It looks like the Universal Amphitheatre, though I'd rather play the House of Blues if we can get it. They have great sound in there, whereas Universal doesn't, and I hate the staff there, too. ... Wow, there's a bunch of security-minded $%*# goons. There's no smoking, you can't take a drink in there. Is this a rock 'n' roll show or a $%&* Boy Scout picnic?"

When other bands put out status reports like "Hard at work in the studio" I take a wait and see approach.....with Lemmy you actually believe what he says.

If James and Co. do this Lemmy project, they should fire themselves from Metallica and replace each position with musicians who actually give a fuck. Wasn't this the whole reason why Newstead left "no side projects", oh wait its okay cause its Jame$ and Lar$ who make the call on who can and cant do what.

The Metallica album of covers was the best thing they ever put out. The Mercyful Fate medley and the Motorhead tunes were excellent.

What's the purpose of a Lemmy Solo album???

I thought every MOTÖRHEAD album was a Lemmy solo album.
I guess He's only doing it, So He can do different styles of music that MOTÖRHEAD couldn't get away with doing.

yes, but there's also a big difference here. See, the WHOLE band is planning to do the thing, not just one person. Plus there was more than just the side projects thing that made Jason leave

Sorry to laugh at ye but when you say "the WHOLE band" that to me just means Jame$ and Lar$ because ultimately they are in charge of the metallica 'steering wheel'. Kirk is a yes man and I think Rob is there to have a laugh.

Agreed re Jason leaving. When you get shat on as much as he did and you get zero respect from your so called band mates that would also contribute yo your leaving. Although he seems to be fuck all of late.

Metallica were tuff on jason, not as bad as it was made out to be. like jason said, they were good mates, their was kinda 2 dressing rooms, kirk and lars together, jason and james.

he said something like that. he left coz of the echobrain thing mostly, on SKOM bob was right he left metallica exspecting them to fall apart, thats why he got so pissed when no one told him about the raiders car park gig. then he went on saying hed wanna join again, they didnt want him, and he nitched about it

Can show Metallica how to be a GOOD metal band again, should be interesting. And on the Jason stand, I think the reason he left was a two way bridge honestly, while I think James and Lars should take some of the blame, I also don't think it was in Jason's best interest if he was interested in staying with the band to be trying to revive Voivod(which I believe he was starting to have talks before he left metallica).

to the old stuff. I mean of course i like "Motorhead", "Overkill", "Bomber", "Ace of Spades", and the very first album "On Parole". but albums like "Bastards", "Sacrifice", "Overnight Sensation", "Snake Bite Love", "We Are Motorhead" and "Inferno" ("Hammered" wasn't so good, it happens, Lemmy's fucking 58) are incredibly good, solid, much HEAVIER and better works. I'm gonna buy this solo album because i know it's gonna rule, i love Lemmy's attitude, the man IS Rock N Roll, and the guest list looks AWESOME to me. Especially because of The Damned a band which i adore.
LEMMY KILMISTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
