VELVET REVOLVER, MOTÖRHEAD Honored At GRAMMY AWARDS
- Feb. 13, 2005
|
|
|
VELVET REVOLVER and MOTÖRHEAD won prizes in early ceremonies at the 47th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 13). VELVET REVOLVER were honored with a Grammy in the Best Hard Rock Performance category (for "Slither"), where they beat out the likes of INCUBUS ("Megalomaniac"), METALLICA ("Some Kind of Monster"), NICKELBACK ("Feelin' Way Too Damn Good") and SLIPKNOT ("Duality"), Meanwhile, MOTÖRHEAD picked up a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for their cover of METALLICA's "Whiplash", shutting out CRADLE OF FILTH ("Nymphetamine"), HATEBREED ("Live For This"), KILLSWITCH ENGAGE ("The End of Heartache") and SLIPKNOT ("Vermilion").

VR shouldn't have taken the hard rock award, that song is fucking boring. Can't complain about Motorhead winning the metal award though, after all these years they've definitely earned it.

I was hoping that Motorhead would win, they fucking deserve it.
As a matter of fact, until Motorhead is inducted in to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, the HoF doesn't mean shit; name me someone in there that doesn't have human blood? Only a Rock N' Roller like Lemmy can possess non-human blood, and he did it with Rock N' Roll!

Ok Velvet Revolver should not have won that award. For a hard rock song SLIPKNOT should have had that one. Motorhead winning is great, its about damn time. I'm just suprised that the grammy people even knew who they were. But seriously VR over SLIPKNOT in that category is just dumb. if Nickelback or Incubus won I'd be even more pissed, but seriously WTF!!!!. and in the Metal Category thankfully hatebreed and Cradle didn't win. Those 2 don't deserve to even be in the same category as MOTORHEAD.

I honestly didn't think lemmy and the boys were ever gonna win a grammy, the "establishment" usually ignores the likes of motorhead, even thought any true headbanger worth their salt knows motorhead doesn't take a back seat to anyone. I'm old enough to remember way back when motorhead first started, man everyone hated 'em, they were voted worst band, haha you showed them Lemmy. And you can bet your ass, now that motorhead has won some much deserved recognition, Lemmy won't sell out!!!!!!

good to hear that motorhead won the metal grammy, and of course people are bound to disagree with who wins an award personal taste I doubt at this point Lemmy will ever change for anything Lemmy is Lemmy regardless of what will happen most of the other awards will likely go to here today gone tomorrow artists anyhow flavor of the month doesn't last but motorhead has and they will for a long time to come

Fuck that "Selloutica Cover" shit!! Inferno is an AWESOME CD...and any track on there should have been nominated, not a fucking COVER song!!

They did show Dime though, I don't think they would've if it wasn't for all the internet chatter though. When those fucks get to the metal catagory they probably have have a secret poll to determine the nods. Best hard rock performance Velvet revolver was O.K. I would've like to see Slipknot accepting the award.
I would've been pissed if they didn't tribute DIME!!!

That's bullshit! Motorhead has some incredible songs. They wouldn't have even known who they were if they hadn't coverered Metallica. Whiplash is great though, and so is Motorhead's version of it. At least they won though... but it shouldn't have been for a cover. Cover songs should not even be nominated

So whats wrong with Velvet Revolver winning the Hard Rock catagory? - they are the only real hard rock band there...
Incubus - Alternative Metal Metallica - Thrash Nickelback - Alternative Metal/Post-Grunge Slipknot - Heavy Metal/Alternative Metal
*AHEM*
"Hard rock is a term that's frequently applied to any sort of loud, aggressive guitar rock, but for these purposes, the definition is more specific. To be sure, hard rock is loud, aggressive guitar rock, but it isn't as heavy as heavy metal, and it's only very rarely influenced by punk (though it helped inspire punk). Hard rock generally prizes big, stadium-ready guitar riffs, anthemic choruses, and stomping, swaggering backbeats; its goals are usually (though not universally) commercial, and it's nearly always saturated with machismo. With some bands, it can be difficult to tell where the dividing line between hard rock and heavy metal falls, but the basic distinction is that ever since Black Sabbath, metal tends to be darker and more menacing, while hard rock (for the most part) has remained exuberant, chest-thumping party music. Additionally, while metal riffs often function as stand-alone melodies, hard rock riffs tend to outline chord progressions in their hooks, making for looser, more elastic jams should the band decide to stretch out instrumentally. Like heavy metal, hard rock sprang from the mid-'60s intersection of blues-rock and psychedelia pioneered by artists like Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and the Jeff Beck Group. Blues-rock and psychedelia were both exploring the limits of electric amplification, and blues-rock was pushing the repeated guitar riff center stage, while taking some of the swing out of the blues beat and replacing it with a thumping power. Hard rock really came into its own at the dawn of the '70s, with the tough, boozy rock of the Rolling Stones (post-Brian Jones) and Faces, the blues-drenched power and textured arrangements of Led Zeppelin, the post-psychedelic rave-ups of Deep Purple, and the loud, ringing power chords of the Who (circa Who's Next) setting the template for much of what followed. Later in the decade, the lean, stripped-down riffs of AC/DC and Aerosmith, the catchy tunes and stage theatrics of Alice Cooper and Kiss, and the instrumental flash of Van Halen set new trends, though the essential musical blueprint for hard rock remained similar. Arena rock also became a dominant force, stripping out nearly all blues influence and concentrating solely on big, bombastic hooks. During the '80s, hard rock was dominated by glossy pop-metal, although Guns N' Roses, the Black Crowes, and several others did present a grittier, more traditionalist alternative. Old-fashioned hard rock became a scarce commodity in the post-alternative rock era; after grunge, many guitar bands not only adopted a self-consciously serious attitude, but also resisted the urge to write fist-pumping, arena-ready choruses. Still, the '90s did produce a few exceptions, such as Oasis, Urge Overkill, and the serious but anthemic Pearl Jam."
So whats the problem?

if you hada few coco puffs growing off the side of your face that millions of hot topic kids thought made you cool thus bringing your band to the attention of the retards who pick grammy winners you'd win a grammy too. and don't gimme any "CoF is a bigger Hot Topic band than motorhead" CoF also wasn't featured on an alkbum put out by some big rock star (in this case Dave Grohl) or where plastered all over suicidegirls.com or bla bla bla whatever

Yeah, Metallica did cover Motorhead, but they didn't win a goddamn Grammy for it! They did win two for covers though; Stone Cold Crazy and Whiskey in the Jar. I think that's bullshit. They also have some very well deserved ones like the one they got for One and the best instrumental performance for The Call of Ktuly (S&M)

I can only say it's about fucking TIME!!! It would have made more sense to give it to them for one of the awesome tunes on Inferno, but, like many here have pointed out, the grammy "judges" are fucking CLUELESS when it comes to metal... or rock... or any sort of heavy music.
Congrats Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey. It's been a LONG time coming, brothers!

a Hot Topic band. They were the best choice of the bands available, plus in typical grammy style, they gave an award to a band that's been around for a long time and possibly overlooked others that were more deserving. Hell, they do it everytime Sting releases an album and they almost did it a few years ago when Steely Dan released a new album.
Nice comment there Fourth (grade) Reich - "Incubus truly Suck". Completely ingenius.
