25th Anniversary Of AC/DC Singer's Passing To Be Marked In Melbourne - Feb. 14, 2005
Patrick Donovan of TheAge.com.au has issued the following report:

Last year, Melbourne acknowledged AC/DC's contribution to society by naming a city laneway in their honour. Launching AC/DC Lane, off Flinders Lane, Lord Mayor John So enthused: "As the song says, there is a highway to hell, but this is a laneway to heaven. Let us rock," as bagpipers played "It's a Long Way To the Top". And rock they did, as DJs spun AC/DC classics, local bands DALLAS CRANE, THE CASANOVAS and OSTERBERG belted out AC/DC-inspired riffs, and old rockers and roadies related classic tales about the late singer Bon Scott, assuring the younger generation that Scott would be looking down on the day's proceedings with a big, toothy smile on his face. The following month, another fan, called Knifeyard, would pay a further tribute by erecting a lightning bolt above and below the street sign.

The Melbourne City Council chose this particular laneway (formerly known as Corporation Lane, a homage to big business, if anything) due to its proximity to Swanston Street, where the band filmed their iconic clip for "It's a Long Way To the Top" on the back of a flatbed truck. They were hoping the band might re-enact the clip when they visit Melbourne later this year, but this is unlikely — Brian Johnson, who replaced Scott in 1980 after the charismatic frontman died during a drinking binge, doesn't sing the signature song out of respect.

But Scott's ode to the rock lifestyle can be heard this Saturday when Cherry in AC/DC Lane invites fans to pay their respects on the 25th anniversary of the passing of Australia's greatest frontman. From 3pm until late, young rock band Airborne and DJs James "Hound Dog" Young, Mick Dooley, Darren "Dr Bitch" Mitchell, Billy Walsh, Max Crawdaddy and Mary Mihelakos will crank out songs such as "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Highway to Hell" and "TNT". Local rock chef Julian Wu will fire up the barbie.

like heavyjay said damn time flies by...I remember the day he died. Bon was the greatest singer & frontman in Rock N Roll as far as I am concerned. What a personality this guy had, incredible stage presence too. Probably the only other person who could hang with Bon when it came to drinking is Lemmy...those two are the epitomy of living the Rock N Roll lifestyle. Imagine those two fuckers in a bar together!!!!!!!!!

Gotta love Brian's take on that...he won't do THE signature Bon Scott song. That's respect.

Is that you are old enough to see 3 US Tours (LTBR,Powerage & H2H).........there isn't a Feb 19th that doesn't pass where I don't raise a toast for Bon!Regardless what the current trend may be I always have the Bon era lps to turn to....and have continued to follow AC/DC through the Brian Johnson era.

Cheers.....and R.I.P Ronald Belford Scott!

I was just a kid when I first got into AC/DC and then heard the singer died. I was crushed....but after all this time, his music stands the test of time. BJ stuff never was the same as Bon did and no one comes close (all the imitators over the years).
RIP, Bon....you are sorely missed!!!!

COMMENT | Another shrimp on the barbie...

Us Aussies rarely ever cook shrimp on the BBQ. I've never known anyone to, this stereotype is a lie. We cook steak, lamb, hamburgers, chicken, sausages, onion, potatos and shit on the barbie. No shrimps. Plenty of cold beer too.

AC/DC Rule, if I wasn't running a 4x100 relay at 3pm this Saturday I'd be tempted to go.
