ANTHRAX Guitarist Says 'No One Is Leaving' The Band
- Feb. 16, 2005
|
|
|
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has rejected an Internet report that singer John Bush will be leaving the group at the end of their South American tour.
A rumor was started earlier this week that Bush will officially quit the group in order to make way for a reunion of the band's "Among the Living" lineup, including the singer he replaced, Joey Belladonna.
ANTHRAX's "Among the Living" lineup — Ian, Belladonna, Charlie Benante (drums), Dan Spitz (guitar) and Frank Bello (bass) — has already confirmed a couple of European festival appearances this spring/summer (Holland's Dynamo Open Air on May 7 and Italy's Gods of Metal on June 11-12) and is said to be planning a series of North American dates, including an appearance at the 10th anniversary edition of Ozzfest. Sharon Osbourne is believed to have promised ANTHRAX a slot at this year's Ozzfest but only on the condition that they perform with the classic lineup that was responsible for some of the band's most successful albums.
When asked by a fan to confirm or deny the recent rumors, Ian stated, "Please, people, be patient. Don't you think I want to confirm or deny what's going on? I can't. My hands are tied. No one is leaving."
As BLABBERMOUTH.NET exclusively reported on Tuesday, BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN will headline the 10th anniversary edition of Ozzfest, which is expected to kick off in mid-July.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Ozzfest 2005 shows will start later than the previous 9:00 a.m. kick-off time and will include more non-rotating slots on the second stage.

this bands only good song was "bring the noise" and thats because it had hip-hop in it, every other song this band has done should be put in a time machine and sent back to 1987. If Anthrax was any good they would incorporate a DJ into the band and maybe mix it up a bit and do songs with 50 cent.

Is Sabbath going to play the same 8 songs that they do every year? Can you play SOMETHING off of Sabotage or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath?!?!?!?! If not, Maiden is going to wipe th floor with them.

I sure like some of their music but i think Scott and Charlie are so annoying that i'd prefer to talk for hours with my grandmother about the weather in 1926 than to hear about them. And they cry more than my dear grandma.

Ozzy does whatever Sharon wants and hasn't been himself in a long, long time. I love Black Sabbath, Anthrax, and the classic lineups but we all know the reunions are about as empty gesturing as the KISS reunion; just about money and nothing more. It's definitely not just about making music or anything. It really is pathetic. It doesn't surprise me about Anthrax though given how Charlie whines about not selling enough.
Believe me, man. I understand about how frustrated you can get when your childhood heroes embarass themselves over and over and refuse to do what works the best. That's why I love Overkill so much. No sellouts, no compromise. That's what Max Cavalera used to say about Sepultura before he liked Korn and officially went nu-metal. It's the same reason to love the minimalist no BS attitude of Darkthrone. Always remind the fans why they started listening in the first place.

Devil incarnate but with regard to Anthrax yeah Belladonna never was a great singer but hes on my most favorite tunes and I lost interest in Anthrax a while back so I guess its nostalgic reasonst that I'd like to see the original Anthrax line up plus I hate whiners and trendoids but the rest of the novel (:0 ) I agree with totally.

well i guess it would be best commercially if anthrax officialy breaks up and a couple of years from now reunite and go on a tour that goes on forever=)..or even better release an average record and claim this is the last record n last tour n while the green gathers put u '' maybe '' clause at the end of every interview on the possibility of havin another record....or else sack every member of ur band and screw them off their royalties=).....or else rerecord all the instruments using unknown musicians and dont pay a dime to the originals=)....if all these sound familiar well i must be a visionary=))............cynicality apart je prefere joey.......

I agree with you about Ozzy. He needs to retire. He has nothing more to give us. I'll take Ronnie James Dio, thanks.
I also agree with you on Anthrax, but I don't entirely agree with your feelings about Maiden. I must admit that No Prayer for the Dying, Fear of the Dark, The X-Factor and Virtual XI are bad albums. Honestly, though, I like Brave New World and Dance of Death. They're not great albums, but both are lightyears ahead of everything they did in the 90s.
It's true that the songs, for the most part, aren't that heavy anymore, but I'm not entirely conviced that's a bad thing. Then again, I don't really care how heavy or fast something is as long as it's good. I think both are solid albums, albiet that Steve's lyrics are getting rather repetitive. Still, I'd put Paschendale up there with some of my other favorite Maiden songs.

But it don't matter because I will still be there.I feel like Metal is getting ready to collectively take it's final breath.Rock goes in cycles........and after the Godfathers of Metal/Hard Rock (AC/DC,Judas Preist,Black Sabbath,Deep Purple, ect) do what could be their final tours the Next Generation of Metal (Metallica,Slayer,Megadeth,Overkill, ect) will not be strong enough to keep the torch lit after many years of weak cd releases and a lack to work together to save a dying beast.
And I won't even discuss the last 10 years of Metal....all it's hope died with Dimebag Darrell Abbott........

Some very good points there, those concerning Ozzy especially ring true for me.
You do wonder who on earth would want to be married to such a shehag but a highly dependant man who has riddled his brain from drugs.
I still have respect for what Ozzy has achieved but he's undoing his legacy within the metal community everyday through Sharon's greedy decisions. It IS time to retire.
Nevertheless, if these are the big hitters for Ozzfest it leaves me a bit miffed as to why we only get Sabbath for a day at Download in the U.K. After all both them and Maiden are British. It's pretty obvious that the shehag is only interested in the dollar in this one as well.

Let's face it folks; Anthrax is down to their last option & grapsing at straws. Don't get me wrong; I jammed the living hell out of Spreading the Disease & Among the Living back in the day. I thought getting John Bush was a great move & I think they have made some great metal music since then. The album sales may not have been there, but what can you say? Getting Belladonna & Spitz back after all these years does nothing for me & certainly does not make we want to shell out the cash for Ozzfest. They are getting a little desparate in my opinion.
