DAVE MUSTAINE Slams Former Bandmates, Defends His Current 'Boys'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site: "I was in the dressing room tonight and the guys told me some of you have been conducting lame polls about former members compared to my new bandmates. "Let me remind you: "Comparing James [ MacDonough, bass] to Junior [ David Ellefson]. . . James wins. Junior sued me for $18.5 million and lost, dragged me, my band, and family through the mud. " James only wants to rock and please y'all. How could you be so stupid? "Comparing Glen [ Drover, guitar] to Al [ Pitrelli]. . . Glen wins. Al was good, very good in fact, but his heart was elsewhere. And I have seen Al purposely sign his name over my face on albums and photos, talk poorly about me when I have gone out of my way to say how good he was. "Comparing Glen to Marty [ Friedman]. . . Glen wins. Marty quit to be a guitarist for a chick in Japan and play pop, he wears kimonos, and high-heel platform shoes now. I told him after 'Risk' that we had to go back to our roots and play metal and he quit. "Comparing Glen to Jeff [ Young]. . . Glen wins. Jeff was a great guitarist but was disinteresed in matching previous guitar solos by Chris, and he allegedly hit on Diana [ Mustaine's fiancée at the time — Ed.]. Jeff was also much more suited to do his own thing and in a different type of music. "Comparing Glen to Chris [ Poland] . . . Glen wins. Chris plays jazz, always has, and never played the same solo two nights in a row. I must say that Glen borderline worships Chris though. " Glen only wants to rock and please y'all. How could you be so stupid? "Comparing Shawn [ Drover, drums] to Jimmy [ DeGrasso] . . . Shawn wins. Jimmy was not very happy around MEGADETH, and that made it hard to be around him. Compare any studio album to 'Rude Awakening' and you will see he did not care to play the songs the way they were recorded. "Comparing Shawn to Nick [ Menza] . . . Shawn wins. I tried to work things out again with Nick but he is not here for a reason; he was sent home becuase he was not prepared and he can't play MEGADETH songs anymore. "Comparing Shawn to Gar [ Samuelson]. . . now this is hard, and I will say it's a tie. They are both fantastic. "Otherwise Shawn only wants to rock and please y'all. How could you be so stupid? "And although this does not apply to everyone, you offend me when you post polls on my site about who wants to see who back in MEGADETH. "These are my boys, love 'em or leave. "And I am not kidding." In a later posting, Mustaine writes: "Just for clarification . . .this is my site. You are offending my boys. Now you tell me you don't agree with me defending my guys? "Bye-bye! There will be plenty of vacation time for you to think about it. "And while your at it, get in a band and once you've have accomplished what these guys have and then have people talk garbage about you, then, and only then will I consider your opinion. "This place is one of the best places in all of cyberspace. You know why? Because we are fair, we treat people right, we tolerate a myriad of BS. "I am fed up with this and it is over. You don't like it? Go someplace else. And you will go someplace else because you will be banned immediately if you have a problem with how I feel about the incessant insults from pukes who don't know these guys, who have never seen them live, and ARE TOO FRIGGING STUPID TO KNOW THAT I WAS HERE TO SEE WHAT THESE OTHER GUYS DID AND YOU WERE NOT! Hey ... you may not agree with his opinions on the former members ... but HE has to choose who HE works with ... not YOU. Why is he an asshole to say he simply does not like these people (or some of them any way, he didn't really blast all of them), but you are not assholes for passing judgement on him? Walk a mile ... it has ALWAYS been HIS band, not anyone else's, so he can choose who he wants to work with. Why are few noting that he is sticking up for some current "no names" like the Drovers because he has the voice to do it? i love Megadeth from Killing to Countdown and still do, but the later albums dont interest me except The system has failed..

Dave wasn't being an asshole, he defended / compared (now & then) the band members. He's right, it's his website, forum, band. If someone offended me or insulted my family, friends or band members... I do the same. Fuck being nice, No more Mr. Nice Guy! Dave is Angry Again.... and that's when he's at his best. The new album kickas ass too!

Has much has Mustaine sounds like a prick more often then not, hes got good points to pist off. Not right for calling people dumb ass's and dishing out his crap of threathning the fans and the site... But being in a band & being part owner of the name myself for the last 8 years and having to deal with some really stupid members that pulled some really dumb/retarded shit of their own, and only having a "few" inside people within the band who had the actual facts make's things a pain in the ass to deal with whenyou read crap thats posted by fans that "think" they know it all just more annoying. Mustaine shouldnt react the way he does but he did, hes Mustaine, but he his right in defending his guys.
Fans (myself included) are ALWAYS going to judge one players shredding technique over another and bash that guy because he didnt play his favorite solo the way that "the original" dude played it. Thats what makes it fun and brings shit up to the table.... I met Glen a few years back 2000/2001 when he was with King Diamond. Anyways, all this to say Dave's attitude isnt really the best and he does seem to cry often but he has and he was right for defending his team.... He should just do it in a different way next time.

Marty Friedman is one of the most influential guitarists of all time...period. Dave Ellefson should be given sainthood by the church for having the forgiveness in his heart to put up with Dave Mustaine's bullshit for 25 years. Dave Mustaine was, is, and will be forever one of the biggest fuckhead douchebags in the history of metal music. After 15 years of playing metal, that last 5 years of that to shitty audiences who couldn't give a shit about metal, only Nirvana-type garbage or whatever was mainstream, endless touring with sweaty junkies and egoed-out assholes .... it's not that hard to figure out why Marty would opt to play for a beautiful Japanese girl, surrounded by these Japanese chicks, the kind 99% of male internet users jerk over on sime www.japanesefucks.com site. Fuck that. I have a feeling that Marty's having a real blast in Japan, and many a man would give their left testicle to have 1/50th of what he gets every day. And of course, Marty seems like a genuinely nice dude, someone who has appreciation for other countries, Dave's more of a "vote Bush, bomb the rest of the world back to the stone age"-type of a guy, who has problems dealing with life once he's outside his home state, in typical redneck fashion. So yeah, go ahead and bash Marty, without his contributions Megadeth would be absolutely shit, he played the leads that made Megadeth what it is, not these current dudes. And bash him while playing shitty club gigs in Dogdick, Arkansas, while Marty is surrounded by chicks who'd all qualify for Penthouse Orient.

most of the time I'm pro-Dave, I respect(ed) the guy, but this latest bashing is just bullshit. I totally agree with Pastor of Muppets about Friedman's playing...but I also will bring to the table that Megadeth just isn't megadeth without the other dave (ellefson). Ellefson's punkish/proggish style was definately responsible for much of Megadeth's success as well. After reading this load of shit from Dave M., its easy to see why Ellefson quit and sued the guy. I saw the FIRST Drover show with King Diamond ever.
He was yet a teenager.
Let me put it this way - he was accurate, he knew the songs - did his homework - Did he do justice to the solos?
Not really, IMO:
He was just playing exactly the same fast similar to LaRocque solos, he was way too emphasizing on vibrato...in short this kid is not Zakk Wylde or Paul Gilbert, or even Rowan Robertson or any other "teen sensation"...
Don't know why King chose the guy in the first place.
He didn't stay long though... only for an album.
That speaks volumes.
Ohm, but the gig with Kind landed him the Megadeth gig; I'll give him that.
All in all - Glen is a capable player but nothing to piss your pants about.

FYI, Megadeth.com being down for a short spell had absolutely nothing to with what Dave said in his post yesterday, or by Dave at all.
Was a server/DNS issue. The Megadeth site and my business site used to be on shared hosting before I got a dedicated server for all my sites over a year ago. The old accounts were never actually terminated on the old server. Last night, that old server failed and all accounts were moved off of it to another server. Ended up that Megadeth.com and anthemwebservices.com pointed back towards the old server's DNS during this move and because the old server accounts were terminated, this automated "suspended" message appeared.
It was worked out through the night with Megadeth.com and my business site is still working it's way back to pointing to the good server; the one all my sites are on. Some of you will see the site come back quicker than others might. It sometimes takes a little while for the DNS to propgate through the web.
Sorry for inconvinience.

I'm blessed to be in the company of such hallowed people. It's obvious all the haters here bitching about Dave have never said a bad word about anyone in their life...
For anyone too dumb to work it out, that was sarcasm.
ANYWAY I saw several gigs on the UK Megadeth tour the week before last and THEY ALL KICKED ASS. I've been a fan since I was 11 years old - 15 years now. I've seen every Megadeth line-up since 1993 (was too young prior to that, before anyone bitches) and I can say that this line-up rocked. All kick-ass gigs, Dave and the guys looked really happy and enjoying the songs.
I was lucky enough to meet them at Manchester, two days before my birthday. They couldn't have been nicer, I was quite taken aback by how friendly and happy they were - ESPECIALLY DAVE! He absolutely made my birthday. James, Shawn and Glen were all nice, friendly and interesting, and all stayed a long time to talk to everyone. Seeing them play the last gig at London on my birthday just made it even better.
I'm glad Dave stepped up to defend James, Glen and Shawn. He picked the guys for the job, and I'm damn sure most of the people bitching about them haven't even seen them live yet, or seen the other line-ups live to compare with. If anyone was bitching about people I'd picked to work with me, I'd be as pissed off as Dave is now.
It's more important to have band members who ENJOY the music and who you can actually TRUST, than have fantastic players who are your 'friends' for years then stab you in the back.
Dave has brought in 3 guys who kick ass, do the job, and respect the fans. There were people on the forums debating the line-up, but also people having a stab at every comment and basically slagging the new guys off without reason. People like to hide behind their PCs on the internet, anonymous and unaccountable, to try and bring people down - they wouldn't have the jacobs to say it to the guys' faces.
I'm not surprised Dave got so annoyed.

good for you dave. it's okay for these liitle pricks to make their comments about you..but when you make comments about your "band/business" your just being an asshole....i don't think so. when any of these little fucks create a "megadeth" of their own - instead of tearing down how you've made it...then they can comment righteously.
