METALLICA To Be Immortalized In Computer Game

ContactMusic.com is reporting that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has confirmed the heavy metal band will be immortalized in a computer game.
Poking fun at last year's METALLICA documentary "Some Kind of Monster", Ulrich has also made it clear there will be no group therapy levels in the game.
The 41-year-old says, "With the computer game, there is definitely truth to that (appearing).
"It won't just be a game where you have to get Lars and James and Kirk through the tour without breaking up, or any of that horseshit."
However, Ulrich has dismissed the possibility of a METALLICA greatest hits album: "As far as a hits record is concerned, that's not something we're entertaining."

To the dickhead that said Lars hates Robert.... he didn't mention Robert for the simple fact that he joined the band AFTER the therapy sessions were almost over... and AFTER St. Anger was already recorded. Lars was talking about the therapy sessions in which Robert was not a part of.

....never ceases to amaze me. I remember being in the 8th grade when Master of Puppets came out. We used to skate and listen to that shit ALL day. I wore out 4 copies of that cassette (we couldn't afford CDs) before I graduated highschool. ...And Justice For All was also a crushing album.
Everything that Bob Rock has done with Metallica as sucked and I wish someone would clue the guys into it. Thank God Pantera kept playing good thrash. Well, too bad.....we've all heard enough of that.

If it truly was "anything for $", they would have released a greatest hits album, and they would have reissued all of their old shit... they would have remixed Justice (which probably should be anyway), they would have reissued St Anger as a dual disc with bonus tracks, they would have released a "Metallica Kasket", and shit like that. Think about it. All they did was sue Napster for putting a song on there that WASN'T EVEN RELEASED YET. Metallica were fully justified, and right in what the did in that case. Fuck the pussies who whine about paying for the music. Art should be payed for.
Could I walk into an art gallery and take a painting off the wall... say "I'll bring it right back"... go home and make copies of it and give it to all of my friends? No, I cannot... because that's stealing. Artists need to be protected.
Lars got a bit carried away after the Napster thing ended... but the fact of the matter is, the band NEVER had a problem with their live recordings being available for download... what they did have a problem with was COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL being available for free. I for one, would be pissed if I wrote a book, and it went straight to the hands of greedy bastards BEFORE it was officially released.
Who's greedy? The ones who want music for free, or the ones who try to protect their art?

But you know what, they earned every fucking penny!!!! Do any of them REALLY know how hard it is to build a band from the underground scene and knock the word on its ass? I'm pretty sure you know. I've been in several bands myself... and it's not easy. Even after Load came out, they deserved everything they got, because they did it on their own terms. They have one of the best record deals in the business... like 3 dollars per album sold. Elektra did that because Metallica are too valuable to lose.
The deserve every bit of success they have. Just listen to St Anger... the most non-radio friendly album I've ever heard from a mainstream act. That shit takes balls!!!!

I used to like korn when they first came out then he started producing them and making them all horrible. Did you actually watch the some kind of monster video. There is a scene in that movie worth watching where Bob Cock starts singing "humming" one of the riffs they are writing. This guy has no ear for metal and it is 100% apparent. you can also write a non-radio friendly album and have decent production at the same time. yeah, it's not their most commerical effort to date, but it's not exactly something that should deserve a lot of praise. i, being a former Metallica fanatic myself, am not impressed with the recent state of the band. St. Anger, with it's moments aside, is a HORRIBLE album. and i'm not talking just production or the sound of the snare drum. the songs are not very well written, many of those songs go on for like 3 minutes longer than they should, and the lyrics are the most stale lyrics i've seen come out of a band in years. now Metallica has never been known to have the deepest of lyrics (there are some very notable exceptions though) but i was writting better lyrics than the ones that appear on St. Anger when i was 12! (i've been writting my own lyrics since i was 12. i'm 17, almost 18 now. do the math!)
now you might be sitting there thinking, "well he probably hated Load and ReLoad too." in all honesty, no. ReLoad, i think is a pretty bad album but it's good songs are pretty damn good while the other songs are just bad. Load on the other hand i think is an excellent hard rock album. if they were to cut out a couple of tracks, i think it would be my favorite Metallica album.
St. Anger is just horrible.
the therapy sessions were a STUPID idea (there's bands that function better if they're dysfunctional and Metallica is one of those bands.)
i've personally lost faith in the band.
when your last good album is an all covers album (this is my opinion) then you really need to just hang it up.

Actually I've known about this game since it was originally announced in '03. I also have a trailer for it on my computer (doesn't show gameplay though). It is a driving/destruction game with a metallica theme, much like twisted metal. If anyone went to the summer sanitarium tour ( I think it was in '03... I cant quite remember) that I went to, there was a trailer for it on the big screen before metallica came on stage. Last time I remember something similar to this was when Destruction Derby came out for PS1 with Fear Factory songs and skins for the cars. Sounds like fun =)

If you wanna see the trailer I was talking about, go to www.ign.com and put metallica in the search bar, click the xbox or ps2 one and it has the trailer listed there to download.

It's mostly going to sell on PS2 and XBOX, so piracy will be a very very small factor.

Take time to think about it for a second everyone. If you were/are a musician, would you make music for yourself that expresses who you are and how you see things? Or would you just play stuff that everyone told you to play....how to sound.
Why is it so bad if Metallica does what they want instead of what "the old school" fans want. Why can't they do whatever the fuck they feel like? I know that's what I do. Whatever the fuck I want.
For the record, I don't like St. Anger and I don't care much for Re-load but it doesn't mean I hate Metallica. I own all the albums.....there's things I like/dislike about all of them.
