VINNIE PAUL Performs With ANTHRAX, DISTURBED During DIMEBAG Memorial Concert - Feb. 24, 2005
PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul joined ANTHRAX and DISTURBED onstage during Wednesday night's (Feb. 23) benefit show in memory of Vinnie's brother, slain DAMAGEPLAN/PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Vinnie performed PANTERA's "A New Level" with ANTHRAX before sitting behind the kit with headliners DISTURBED for a rendition of the PANTERA signature song "Walk", with many other musicians joining in.

The benefit concert, which took place at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, will help cover bereavement costs for the family of DAMAGEPLAN security guard Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, who was also killed, and medical expenses for DAMAGEPLAN crew members John "Kat" Brooks and Chris Paluska, who were injured during the Dec. 8, 2004 shooting spree.

02. Caught in a Mosh
03. Safe Home
04. Inside Out
05. Antisocial

How hard that must of been for Vinnie to look over his drum kit and not seeing Dime down there tearing shit up. He is a strong man, and I think he knows Dime wouldn't want him to hang up the towel. Stay strong Vinnie, we are all behind you with whatever you decide to do. They should release a dvd with 10 hours of Dime just jamming and getting up to his hi-jinks.

Now how about a Dime tribute tour that goes around the country!!

First, I'd like to point out this one is different because Vinny acutally played to help out his friends in the crew and I understand that it is a step in the healing process. The point is that the 'civilans' who got killed or injured in the shooting are being sidebarred and left in the dust and those families are probably much more in financial need than Dimes family. I truly believe that bands are seeing an opportunity in Dimes death and using it for press and that is f'd.

i was at the show, vinnie had tears in his eyes when they played a new level. but he still nailed it. when they played walk it was awsome, but it was kind of hard for me to swallow because the last time i saw walk being played was w/ damage and dime. as much as disturbed could have put on a show, scott and charlie from anthrax were goin nuts when they played a new level. the only things that were missing from the show were kerry king and zakk. hell, i had tears in my eyes when anthrax came out and did fucking hostile. rita was there handin out pics, and yes, she is the strongest woman i know. chad lee was there. to me, the show was unforgetable. i want to say thanks to anthrax and all the bands that played last night.!!!!!! dime forever

BLS? Dunno. Union Underground wasn't there because they broke up a couple years ago. Patrick has a new band, nobody knows what Brian or Josh is doing and John M. joined Disturbed as their new bassist.

I was there and that had to have been the best thing Vinnie Paul to do! All the bands there were just awesome and they got some many Dimebag chants going all through the night. It really must've been one of the greatest concerts I've been to also. I've got much respect for Vinnie Paul going up there on the drums again and playing. Hopefully this won't be the last time we see him on drums too. Zakk Wylde was even there too which was sweet. During "Walk", Pat Lachman and Bobzilla got up there and they played while Dan from Disturbed played with a signature Dean guitar Dime would use. To those who couldn't see it, you missed a really great show and I know everyone would love to be there!

What can I say about Dimebag that hasn't been said thousands of times....

He was a humble prophetic guitarist who lived his life to the fullest everyday. He gave more to people than he probably knew while he walked this earth.

A man immortalized as much by his personality as his music. He gave so much to his fans... His time. One of the most completely unselfish musicians, a hero, and keeper of the faith.

His brother Vinnie did him proud last night. Dime was evident every where that you looked. From the fans to the bands that paid tribute.

Thanks for the memories Dime you may be gone but you will NEVER be forgotten... Not by me or any that I saw last night.....

I was at this show last night. The turnout was outstanding, although I think that some of the crowd were teeny boppers that don't know anything about Dimebag. All the bands were outstanding, their timing was incredible!! It was very theraputic (sp?) to see Vinnie Paul up there on drums with Anthrax and Disturbed. He seemed happy to be up there. He did thank all of us for being there and his exact words were "don't ever let Dime die!" which was very cool.

RIP Dime

Don't really care what they say because everyone KNOWS that DIME was the fuckin' man!

Shout to Susan for the sentiments. My love to everyone who mourns his loss, wishes the best for his family and friends, and who f*ckin' JAMS Pantera and Damageplan!

Last thought, THEY TOTALLY should do a nationwide memorial tour and have like 1 or 2 local acts open up in each city. It's been said before, but Erin Halk and the bouncer who got shot have families that proably need cash more than the Kat and other D-plan crew. Not bangin' on them, but Erin had a toddler at home. That little girl's going to need to go to college.

I'm in Houston now, but I'm going back to Ft. Worth in a couple of weeks to visit my family and planning on taking a few shots at a cemetary in Arlington for Dime and a few more at the cemetary in Oak Cliff for Stevie Ray.

Damn I miss him!

Pantera songs nonetheless: it must be EXTREMELY hard for him. But of course he knows that his brother would NEVER want him to quit, and music is his life anyway. A really great drummer i wish him the best of luck for the future and i hope he starts a new thrash metal band. Vinnie Paul rules.

I was at the Dimebag tribute show in Chicago yesterday night, waited in the cold in line for a few hours, sipped a few blacktooths with two brothers/wives and good friends while waiting in line too!!

Let me just say...to see Vinnie Paul jamming up there again for the first time since Dime's death sent shivers down my spine and was the absolute high-point of the night...HANDS DOWN!! Worth the admission right there!! I screamed so loud during New Level that I had to consciously remind myself to take it easy, or else risk popping a vessel in my head.

Vinnie Paul is truly "Vince Paul the Brickwall" because it would take nerves harder than a brickwall to face the stage again without his beloved brother and one-of-a-kind legend, Dimebag!!

Message to Vinnie: First, thanks for the uplift and inspiration yesterday...unbelievable!! Second, I truly believe Dime would want it no other way...Keep on jamming, don't give it up!! You have friends and support out here in the metal world...I know for as long as I am able, I'd come out to see any band you were in!! You have been an inspirational drummer, before and after this senseless tragedy. Keep pounding those skins...you do it like no other!!

Also, hats off to Anthrax who had the class to kick out with a Pantera song, Fu@#ing Hostile!! They ripped the place up with that one!! I expect nothing less from this veteran metal band. Thanks gents!!

I know one thing: If I were one of those acts up there...I would have at least dedicated half, if not all, the set to Dime's music!! Disturbed is definitely to be complimented for putting that show on, but they should have focused it more on Dime's music!! David Draiman did remind us a few times whom the show was for, but I think it should have gone without saying!!

RIP Dimebag Darrell - You are missed terribly, and I was reminded of that in a big way yesterday!!

I mean, people have actually told me that they find it disturbing that i never get offended by anything like tragedies, or really sick shit, (not that im bragging, cuz its just how i am) but even i would have a relatively hard time gettin back up there. I mean, its hard to imagine, but i mean he saw his brother, who was also his best friend, and band member for over 2 decades get shot to death, so unexpectadly right in front of him. hell i gotta give him credit though, i mean id imagine alot of people would literally have flashbacks on stage if that happened and possibly like freak out or something. But I am glad to see him jammin, and enjoying life again, and personally wouldnt mind hearing some more kickass tunes from the man known as.......VINCE (cool drum roll) then dime's solo kicks in full throttle, anyone know what song im talkin bout...i bet you do!
