H.I.M. To Release 'Love Metal Archives Vol. 1' DVD In April/May - Feb. 24, 2005
Finnish goth-metallers H.I.M. will be releasing a new DVD, entitled "Love Metal Archives Vol. 1", in Europe in late April/early May. The disc will reportedly contain video or live versions of 53 songs, rare interviews and other special extras. No further information is currently available.

The new H.I.M. album, which is presently untitled, will reportedly be recorded at the Paramour studio in L.A. with producer Tim Palmer (OZZY OSBOURNE, SEPULTURA) and is expected to be released in September/October via Sire Records. H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo told the Finnish Iltalehti newspaper in early January that he planned to write 13 songs for the album over a two-month period, because "I do my best work under pressure," he reportedly said.

I don't know if their fan base is predominantly female or not, but seems that some of the women that I know really like to listen to HIM. I think it's a more "female-accessbile" sound as it has similarities to goth. On a another marketing note, I've noticed that HIM has really gotten into merchandising here in the U.S. I think that there's enough HIM merchandise at Hot Topics to warrant its own section!

The reason that this is unusual is that I didn't think that they were that well known in the States...the only reason I know them is that they would show up on Viva2 a lot when I lived in Germany.

I wish they recorded an album in the vein of To Separate The Flesh from the Bones, just to see the way their fans would react to that. I know they had Impaled Nazarene open for them in Finland once, and the goth girls in the audience looked extremely frightened.

They are a good band, not brilliant but they are good to listen to once in a while...I got 3 or 4 albums and the songwriting is solid, although not complex which for me is the down-point...But apart from that, they are quite enjoyable and are just sommat different. Thats just my opinion, i'm sure many will disagree

Him got popular IN THE USA because of Bam. They had success elsewhere before Bam. Besides..in the end what does it matter who promotes the band, record company, the fans,
your mother...

I know it's fun to mock bands that chicks seem to love ;)
It's fun to put some Sepultara in your cd player and fuck to the beat of the song Arise but let's face it...

You probably just don't like the kind of music HIM plays. For example I don't like R'n B a bit but I don't say that all the artists in that genre suck.
It's just not myt thing...
And now I know that crap is not yours...

i never really dug that whole self obsessed, love orientated "goth metal" except for of course Type O Negative, who somehow can play that style of music, but it sounds fucking cool as hell

In response to Hurricane Hugo's question:
What do you see/hear in this band that the rest of us don't?

I've only been a HIM fan for 7 months, and Bam had nothing to do with it. To answer your question, I enjoy their music because it's extremely different from anything North American radio plays, and we all know the crap coming out of those airwaves. The lyrics are unique & clever. HIM has their own style, sound and lyrics and no other band are like them, unlike so many bands here in N America. They all sound the same and it's sick already. True, HIM has a mostly-female fanbase and I wouldn't really classify their music as metal, although the first two albums were heavier. But then Bam discovered them and to me they have been more rock than metal ever since but I still love them and probably always will unless they change their style to anything besides metal or rock. Meh, that's my opinion/story anyway.

Just for the record, I gave up listening to any and all North American bands out of pure disgust and turned to Europe for new music. WOW that's where all the awesome music is and all the awesome music festivals. HIM just happened to be one of many new bands that I have discovered. Other bands I'm loving are Edguy, Luca Turilli, Rhapsody, The 69 Eyes, Demons & Wizards, Blind Guardian, Rammstein, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica just to name a few. We just don't get this kind of awesome music in N America and that's just really fuckin' sad.

just a thought on all the comments about Him being metal...
could it be that the band isn't calling themselves "metal"???
if you look at the titles of all their albums they all have to do with two complete opposites, ex: Greatest love songs vol. 666, razorblade romace, ect....
i know i've heard ville talk on more than one occasion about how he loves the idea of two opposites that are somehow ment to be together and thats where the album names come from... its love metal, not just metal
...anyway.. thats my take

I've been a fan since around '98 or so, when the first Wicked Game video game out on a Beauty in Darkness comp, which had Dimmu, Therion, and Darkside videos as well. I'm a fan of HIM because they really are talented songwriters, regardless of whether they're metal or not. If I'm in a mood to listen to metal, I've got my Immortal, Bathory, Moonspell, and Paradise Lost CDs in arms reach.
