Folk Singer Covers OZZY's 'Mama, I'm Coming Home': Audio Available
- Mar. 1, 2005
|
|
21-year-old Massachusetts singer/songwriter LILY HOLBROOK has recorded a cover of OZZY OSBOURNE's "Mama, I'm Coming Home" for her second CD, "Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt", out now on Back Porch Records. Check out an audio sample of Lily's version of the track: Windows Media, Real Media. According to a posting on the Back Porch Records web site, Holbrook has been "captivating audiences for the last few years with her expressive, wistful voice and thought-provoking melodies on the streets of Boston and Los Angeles. People strolling through Harvard Square, Newbury Street or the Santa Monica Pier have stopped short to listen to Lily's folk rock, causing a pedestrian traffic jam with hundreds of people gathered, caught up in her musical web. She has built a strong and loyal following as a consummate busker and is featured prominently in the documentary 'Playing for Change' which is scheduled for spring 2005 airing on the Sundance channel and via NetFlix."

I thought Lemmy Kilmeister wrote it. From what I've heard Oz just hums a melody and gets a writing credit. He cannot write music, he cannot play music ;he is like a heavy metal Elvis - he just has his name put on songs for posterity or they do not end up on his album. Ask Bill Ward or some of Ozzy's old band members who got sacked after recording. Sad thing is that they think noboby knows....

You are right, that girl sounds like a bastard hybrid of Jewel and Spears, especially that "goat" thing she does with her voice in the beginning of words.

If we are on the subject of covers for a moment, you should seek out and hear The Chapin Sisters (Harry's nieces) minimilist treatment of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun." And while you're there, hear their take on Britney Spear's "Toxic." Don't expect metal - but listen....

The coolest cover of "Black Hole Sun"(and one of the best covers ever) was done by Cibo Matto. They gave it the "lounge" treatment...and sang it in French. Fucking incredible. suffersystem and SDMF04: Have you heard Shooter Jennings yet? He's Waylon's kid...real country to the core. He could definitely handle the job on covering "South of Heaven".
blessed be.

Vin & Dime...D.A.C. CD is called Rebel to Rebel.... Yeah I've heard Shooter Jennings...would love to hear him do that song. I love all that southern type metal...Pantera, C.O.C, Down...etc. I think those guys like Shooter could do a great metal tribute album....but you know they would invite Kid Cock to fuck it up.
