DEEP PURPLE, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT To Play Free Concert In Michigan - Mar. 9, 2005
Classic rock greats DEEP PURPLE and BLUE ÖYSTER CULT have been confirmed for the 2005 Fox Fest at the Ionia Free Fairground in Ionia, MI on Friday, June 17. They will be joined by up-and-coming artists KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD and Grand Rapids rock band BROKEN SUNDAY.

Rich Berry, sales manager for WBCT B-93 and WBFX-The Fox, the stations that host the Birthday Bash and Fox Fest, respectively, told the Ionia Sentinel-Standard that this year's musical lineup is stellar.

"(DEEP PURPLE) hasn't played in this area in decades," Berry said, citing popular "Fox" jock Aris Hampers as his well-informed source.

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT played at the first Fox Fest in 2002 and will be returning to the big stage at Ionia. SHEPHERD, a classic rock guitar phenom in his teens, and BROKEN SUNDAY will also provide a hip, newcomer vibe to the massive free concert.

"SHEPHERD, a classic rock guitar phenom in his teens"

Actually, I think Kenny Wayne is 27 years old; he hasn't been "in his teens" since like 1996. Evidently, this guy's sources are not as well-informed as he thinks.

I bet they don't even know Ritchie Blackmore is no longer in the band...

....too much fun.

Kenny Wayne Shepard is pretty stanard "Stevie Ray Vanna-be" material....

If you like that kind of stuff, I'd say Doyle Bramhall II is the man!!!! (....and alot less derivitive.)

I agree... who the fuck is this guy!? Kenny Wayne Shepherd is NOT up-and-coming.... he's a very accomplished artist.

And that comment about "phenom in his teens", I think he meant when he WAS in his teens. It could be taken either way... but if it's taken the other way, this guy is retard

It it was the wettest concert I have ever been to!It rained all day and eased up a bit in the afternoon......but came back after Danzig played!I'm really shocked that Metallica put themselfs at risk with the amount of rain coming down....but they did the whole set!

I'll have to think about this one before I make the drive!

Wow...small world! I was there too....you ain't kiddin- that was the wettest concert I've EVER been in. Totally drenched from the top down except for part of my legs because I was in the front row, packed in like sardines. It was a good show....but totally poured the whole time, and got worse as the show went on- sprinkled during suicidal, poured for Danzig....REALLY poured for Metallica- leaving was a zoo too because the whole grounds was a mudhole- saw plenty a 4x4 even getting stuck in the mud. Hosed myself off when I left, but still threw my clothes and boots away when I got home!!! Every outdoor concert I've ever been to,save Ozzfest 99 was a drenchfest- guess it's just my luck. Ahh- the memories...

Between ST and Danzig I was watching the hardcore "mudmen" jump over this huge mudhole on the right side of the stage.Somehow I managed to steal a rain poncho off of the fence surrounding the soundboard area.......and I'm glad I did because it came in handy protecting my tape recorder when the rain came down again!

I swore I would never go back....I might have to do it for BOC & DP!
