RITCHIE BLACKMORE's Manager Blasts RAINBOW Reunion Rumors - Mar. 10, 2005
A representative for Ritchie Blackmore's (DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW) management company has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to refute a rumor that RAINBOW are in talks about reforming for a series of live shows.

A report posted Wednesday (March 9) on The Dio Message Board indicated that Ronnie James Dio's wife Wendy's management company Niji Management is currently looking at getting the members of the group back together for a number of live appearances. The proposed lineup was said to include Dio (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jimmy Bain (bass) and Vinny Appice (to replace the late Cozy Powell).

Commenting on the report, Blackmore's management representative Carole Stevens told BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "There is NO truth to this rumor whatsoever. Neither Ritchie Blackmore nor his management has had any contact with Wendy from Ronnie's management company.

"We wish Ronnie well on whatever projects he is doing. They do not involve Ritchie Blackmore.

"Ritchie is currently recording his sixth BLACKMORE'S NIGHT CD and then will commence touring with BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. This is a project he enjoys. He is musically stimulated with his performance, producing, composing and arranging of the BLACKMORE'S NIGHT music. He has found success and happiness — a rare combination. Why go backward when you can be successful and musically fulfilled moving forward?"

Wendy has been Ronnie's Manager forever. Even prior to their marriage. Wendy is very cut throat and can hang with the best of them. This is a good example. A Rainbow reunion would do many good things for her client. By starting a rumour you develop a measuring stick to see how many people are interested in such a reunion. If the buzz takes on life it can be used as leverage to get folks like Ritchie to come to the table.

I was lucky enough to see Rainbow with both JLT and Ronnie. Fucking amazing shows!

"Why go backward when you can be successful and musically fulfilled moving forward?"

Um...Blackmore's Night is, like, a couple hundred years back. Rainbow would 'only' be 30 years back.

By the way, I think Dio would appreciate a Rainbow reunion, money-wise, a lot more than Ritchie. I mean, Ritchie probably gets more money just from "Smoke on the Water" royalties than Dio from everything he ever wrote.

This reunion thing was, indeed, too good to be true. I hope some day soon Candice will truly see the aging rocker that she spends her time with and find someone else to help her career. That way Ritchie would be available again to make some GOOD music.

Bottom line is that both camps say the same things. Specifically, 'we wish them well, but we're pleased with what we're doing...'

Realistically, Dio is booked touring for the remainder of 2005 and is (still) planning to complete his next album, which he maintains will be Magica 2 and 3. Neither Dio nor Blackmore need the cash, and both appear to enjoy where they are at this stage of their careers. I just don't see a reunion. Ever.

Of course, after Dio left Sabbath, I never thought they'd reunite for Dehumanizer, either... I'd love for it to happen, but IF it does, bet your ass that everyone would be all smiles on stage yet never acknowledge the others' presence off. Just like Crosby, Still and Nash... and the Sab's Dehumanizer tour!

I don't know about these wife/managers. But what I DO know is this - if a Rainbow reunion could occur, that is just a few steps away from a DEEP PURPLE REUNION ! Ian Gillan has told me face to face that they have no interest in it, but it could be almost as large as a VH reunion with DLR.

if it mattered ...any fool would know that ritchie is much wealthier than dio based on the huge worldwide success of purple back in the day and RAINBOW with jlt, very good commercially selling records....

but it doesn't matter. wendy dio manages ronnie, i have no clue who manages ritchie at this point but i would bet its his wife, singer manager who is well qualified since she used to drive the prize van at a classic rock radio station on long island which is how he met her.

So, Now that the management has issued an "Official Denial".
I guess the next step would be the "Official Reunion Tour" announcement.

Because, That's the way it usually goes.
Deny, Deny, Confirm.

Just look at Motley Crue, Judas Priest , Anthrax and Twisted Sister. A couple of years ago it was Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden denying that Bruce Dickinson was back in the band and Blaze Bayley was out.

I say the "Official Tour" confirmation will be released by Blackmore's Management company over the next couple of weeks.

oh well......hey fuck Blackmore and his renaisance fair, feudal, mideval, flute turkey leg chewing Hamlet tights, one leg hopping, jester, peasant wearing music!!!!!. I didn't buy it for one second simply because Ronnie is busy making the same Magica cd every year but the reality is that most fans just go to hear him sing the classics anyway. Its like Iron maiden should also just play the stuff from the first six albums but you tell Stevo Harris that. Its not an easy task....

Ritchie's manager may have denied the rumors but up until now, Wendy Dio hasn't, so maybe...

And let's not forget that Jayne Andrews (Priest's manager) kept denying the "rumors" about the Judas Priest reunion until the very last moment.

There's no smoke without fire.

but if RAINBOW ever does reform... it will most likely be with JOE LYNN TURNER on vocals...NOT ronnie. I really don't think the RITICHIE would ever work with ronnie again. and although we all want to see a reunion with DIO. they " soldout " a lot more records when JOE LYNN was in the band. they had no hit singles with ronnie. that has several with TURNER.

Lucifer Burns, don't forget, the last time they "reformed" he made a completely new band. Only Chuck Bergi remained from the previous album. I don't think he was chasing sales figures at that time and he certainly isn't now with Blackmore's Night, so I don't think that kind of thing will be on his mind anymore. He's been there and done that. I think a reunion with JLT or Doogie is just as likely as a reunion with Dio, but that is nothing to do with Hit Singles, but just because they are all very unlikely. ;p I think it would be more likely that he would form a new band, like he did for Stranger In Us All.

I would be happy for any kind of Rainbow reformation. As long as Ritchie is there playing his Strat, it'll be amazing, no matter who else is in the band.

Wendy is still his manager, but has not been his wife for several years, according to a Dio interview I read recently. Ritchie's manager his the mother of his girlfriend, who still isn't his wife.
