VH1's 'When METALLICA Ruled The World' To Premiere This Month

A brand new VH1 special, entitled "When Metallica Ruled The World", is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, March 31 at 10:00 p.m. "When Metallica Ruled the World" tells the tale of the world's most dangerous band through the people who lived it. It brings you inside the nearly three decades of dramatic success, drunken debauchery and tragic setbacks that have made METALLICA one of rock and roll's greatest stories. Interviews include: James Hetfield - Lead Singer Lars Ulrich - Drummer Kirk Hammett - Lead Guitarist Robert Trujillo - Bassist Bob Rock - Producer Jason Newsted - Former Bassist Sully Erna - GODSMACK, Lead Singer Scott Ian - ANTHRAX, Guitarist Jim Breuer - Comedian Joe Berlinger - Co-Director, "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster"According to a posting on the VH1 web site, "When Metallica Ruled the World" is a one-hour-long documentary that will take the viewer through the band's tumultuous 24-year history and give them the real story behind the group's recent ups and downs, including James Hetfield's battle with alcohol, Jason Newsted's resignation, and the band's subsequent journey into therapy. The show begins in 1981 when drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield meet each other through "Musician Wanted" ads in a local Los Angeles paper and start a volatile relationship that will drive the band to the top of the heavy metal world and ultimately to the brink of destruction some twenty years later. In between; METALLICA's hard partying earns them the infamous nickname " ALCOHOLICA", they face the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton, become a worldwide phenomenon with the 1991 release of the Black Album and enrage music fans across America by taking on music-swapping giant Napster. ...Dave Mustaine is conspicuously absent from the line-up. Wonder why? And oh yeah, fuck Sully Erna!! As if nobody is gonna notice how blatantly Godsmack ripped of the mighty Alice In Chains, and the late, great Layne Staley (R.I.P.)...

They Still Rule the world. Metallica owns. Best Damb live act going today, and in my opinion that what makes or breaks a band. However Godsmack on the other hand sound rather generic. Every song sounds the same. Either way looking forward to this special.

Anyways, fuck them- a friend loaned me a CD by Lamb of God called "as the palaces burn". "Ruin" is playing right now, and it sounds pretty good. What can you tell me about this band?

...I was just a kid when Master Of Puppets came out, but it's been my all-time favourite record for yonks, so I'm pretty sure I understand, dude. Age is no barrier to great metal.

I am never gonna understand why people who hate metallica and are sick of reading the news about them actually click on the link, have you nothing better to do than bitch about this band??
I think that Metallica have certainly done some good and bad towards metal in general and at one point the DID rule the world, but the world has changed and whether they manage to change with it is something else completely. This will be a look back on everything that they have achieved (as already posted) - past tense. That doesn't mean to say that they wont rule the world again, it just means that they have to produce something extra special. No-one but them know whether they can manage that,

They (MetallicA) were once good and influential, now they're pretty much done, and I would say far from "ruling the world". Is anybody else tired of all this hype and ass-kissing being dedicated to them all the time, as if they deserve it so much? It's not like they were the only thrash band to revolutionize....shit....MegadetH (Dave Mustaine) did it harder and faster, anyway........ And let's not forget the other Greats. Rust In Peace will forever be the magnum opus of Speed/Thrash METAL. 'Nuff Said.
