BLACKFOOT Drummer JAKSON SPIRES Dies Of Brain Aneurysm
- Mar. 16, 2005
|
|
|
BLACKFOOT drummer Jakson Spires passed away this morning from a brain aneurysm in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
Spires, a founding member of BLACKFOOT, wrote or co-wrote nearly every BLACKFOOT song recorded from 1969 until 1986, including two of the band's biggest hits, "Highway Song" and "Fly Away". Between the years when the band separated and now, he has had several projects such as DRIVIN' SIDEWAYS, THE CONQUEROOTS and SOUTHERN ROCK ALLSTARS.
In addition to performing in America and Europe, he recorded numerous sessions with legends such as Benny Mardones, Phil Lynott of THIN LIZZY and blues greats Willie Dixon and Albert King, just to name a few. Jakson, also known as "Thunderfoot", ignited crowds with his powerhouse drumming and creative style.

Jakson Spires, Danny Joe Brown, and another shaft for Skynyrd getting into the (albeit a crock of shit) RnR Hall of Fame.
"Highway Song" did have a pretty kick ass lead break that faintly resembled some Skynyrd licks, but it kicked ass none the less.
Rest in Peace

I saw Def Leppard (High n Dry line-up) open for Blackfoot in 1981. Blackfoot was probably the best of the Southern Rock bands live.
Too bad Ricky Medlock and Jackson did patch up their bad blood before he passed away. Jackson was also married to Ricky's sister.
R.I.P.

...Blackfoot were a great band. Heavy blues/southern rock riffing galore. Saw 'em back in the day with Triumph, a strange but great double bill. Train, Train...

..when I was in my teens, I wanted to play lead guitar for Blackfoot. I figured, my blistering leads, and metal up bringing, along with the fact that I have indian blood flowing through me, I would be a perfect fit! ....God rest his soul. :(
