MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY On Winning GRAMMY: 'Nobody Deserves It More'
- Mar. 17, 2005
|
|
MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister spoke to Jon Bream of the Minneapolis Star Tribune about winning his first Grammy after 30 years in the hard-rock wars. "It's about bloody time," said Kilmister. "Nobody deserves it more, although I'm too modest to say it." Of course, the irony is that the trophy for best heavy-metal performance isn't for MOTÖRHEAD's 21st and latest CD, "Inferno", but for a METALLICA song ( "Whiplash") that the British trio recorded for a tribute CD. That's OK — Kilmister isn't complaining. "I don't mind it," said the singer-bassist, "but it would mean more if it was one of our numbers." For a full-tilt trio that pioneered speed metal and prides itself on sex, drugs and relentlessness, a Grammy isn't going to make MOTÖRHEAD respectable. "There's not much chance of that; don't worry," said Kilmister, who will turn 60 on Christmas Eve. "It's too late for this band." Kilmister said he thinks that the Grammy will have no impact on MOTÖRHEAD's career. He has had mainstream recognition before: "We did 'The Tonight Show' many years ago, and our sales went down."

Wow,,,,,asskicking show.
If this bill is coming to your town, RUN, do not walk, and get tickets. It sold out in NYC and it was, in total honesty, a brilliant show by both bands.
But Motorhead/Lemmy are basically an institution by now. They wailed,,,especially with this Mikkey Dee man on drums,,,,I think he used to play on King Diamonds solo albums,,,,sick show.

I suppose it would have been strange if another band had done a jethro tull cover and it won over the metallica cover but all silliness aside a couple weeks ago on muchmoremusic they aired the classic albums episode on ace of spades watched some of that it was a good show cool to see phil and eddie again

Motörhead's sales went down after they appeared on TV? Most people do not know what's good for them.
Long live the 'head!

Lemmy's got no lack of ladies! I picked up my tickets at the will-call window for the Maiden/Dio/Motorhead tour a few years back and at the next window over was some 20 year old piece of eye candy wearing a a miniskirt, knee high boots, and a hand-made shirt that said "Lemmy's Bitch". She got to the window and said, "I'm (so&so) I'm on the Motorhead guest list"....Lemmy's doing just fine!

Motorhead has deserved a Grammy for years now. I have never seen a bad show by him in the last 15 years. I cannot wait to see them in the 9th!! Check out the newest issue of AP, it has an interview with him by Lars Fredrickson of Rancid. Killer, and it shows off his great sense of humor.

And he still kicks more ass than the majority of younger, bullshit artists out there. That's why Motorhead is my favorite band.
Pure, honest rock 'n roll...nothing less. Lemmy rules!

Lemmy rules, Motorhead rule. Inferno is their best cd. Yes better than "Ace of Spades", "Bomber" and all of their classic stuff. To me Motorhead are better now, with the Campbell-Dee-Kilmister lineup, that they ever were, both live and in the studio. You're free to disagree to each his own.

It's great, a lot of fun to read and extremely interesting. The man went through the hippie and punk eras, he roadied for the Beatles, for Jimi Hendrix, tried and teach Sid Vicious to play bass, did drugs with Dee Dee Ramone, fucked more chicks than Guns N Roses, Motley Crue and Aerosmith put together. A true legend, the incarnation of RNR.
