KISS Fan Dismissed From German Reality TV Show Over 'Nazi' Tattoo - Mar. 19, 2005
A 42-year-old KISS fan from Frankfurt was dismissed from the German reality TV show "Big Brother" because his tattoo of the original KISS logo was deemed too similar to the symbol used by Nazi stormtroopers during World War II.

In an official statement, RTL 2, the German TV station responsible for producing the "Big Brother" show, said, "'Big Brother' is family entertainment. When RTL 2 has reason to believe that wrong implications or inferences could be made in connection with this show, or that our viewers could be offended by the program, we have the responsibility to act."

To avoid being banned from touring or selling records in Germany, KISS were forced to change their logo on all German releases beginning with 1980's "Unmasked" so the lightning-bolt "SS" didn't resemble the Nazi logo, according to KISS fan site SKKK. KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, both of whom are Jewish, took great offense to the allegations that KISS were Nazis. Gene was born in Israel and his mother spent some time in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Ironically, at a show in Milan, Italy on September 2, 1980, a group of skinheads stormed through some barricades and descended on the band believing them to be their allies.

A Spiegel.de article (in German) on the "Big Brother"/KISS controversy can be viewed at this location.

You want more stupidity, here's another great example thanks to Germany: I was drinking a great imported beer called Warsteiner and on the label it actually said, "Naturally brewed according to the German Purity Law." I mean, I know that it is just referring to the brewing process and using all-natural ingredients, but do you think we can have better choice of wording next time? I laughed my ass off when I saw that.

I was on tour near germany a few times and I always thought that if my KISS tatto was visable I would get in shit. I kept it covered up but did show it to a few people from germany and they didn't mind it at all. This is the same thing as Green piece. Look if I went on TV and said the sky was blue , I would put money on it that some fucking group would protest and say it's not.

No fucking kidding, man. They put out a movie called "White Chicks" where two black men put on makeup to make them look white. If there had been a movie called "Black Chicks" with men in blackface, the NAACP would have had a fucking seizure.

they already made that movie back in 1986, it's called 'Soul Man', and nobody had a seizure. The movie is total crap though.

Nope, Ace Frehley came up with the idea of using thunderbolt "S" for KISS.

Depending on who you believe Paul either refined it, or stole the credit.

but I digress...

Europe as a whole has always been a bit schizo when it comes to barbarism.

When they're not out actually doing the killing, they're just sitting on the sidelines letting it happen (while making shitloads of cash supplying both sides).

No wonder my ancestors said fuck 'em 100+ years ago.

...it was SOMEONE in KISS that came up with it. But dude, if it weren't for Europe, there wouldn't be any America, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Interestingly enough, when it came time to decide the national language of America, German lost out to English by one vote. Just a little more food for thought.

But wouldn't it have been cool if the guy were just kicked off the show for being a KISS fan? That would have made a lot more sense. I have do deal with metalphobes on a daily basis at Jazz School, and because of my early Metallica/Maiden/Death roots, people assume at best, I'm an ignorant redneck. I played some of my classmates some Nile (the intro to "Unas, Slayer Of The Gods"), and it was fucking HYSTERICAL to not only watch their facial reactions (especially the chicks), but to hear their comments. Discrimination is a motherfucker, ain't it?

oops, me german... *ggg*
word, that this subject may be very delicate in certain circumstances here. (it's not about denial though -you go to jail for denying concentration camps, holocaust etc-, 99% of the germans still appologize for what happened. sorry for the rest... there is dickheads all over the world.).
and btw purity law; that indeed is ridiculous. should be changed; but ironically, it is a good laugh though *ggg*! becks and jever rule!!!

as for the guy that got fired from big brother: there is pictures of him in newspapers here that show his tattoo. the thing is, he doesn't have the full KISS-logo on his arm, he only has the double-s (original version, without the letters K and I) tattooed... so, as long as they didn't modify the photos, he shouldn't be surprised being suspected and fired...

The class I took was just English Comp, I had to do a "best ever" type paper comparing & evaluating. It was our choice of subject.

As for German beers - I'm for the Oktoberfest biers (Spaten, Paulaner) but the regular lagers are good. If you like dark, strong biers, I'd recommend Paulaner Salvator or Celebrator (which is kind of pricey), both are about 7% alcohol.

missyp - the purity law actually isn't a law anymore, but the brewers choose to follow it. The Frech fought the law, because it was effecting their beer sales, because they mostly brew ales. I do believe the Bavarian brewers have to follow it though.
I think they should follow it if they make lagers, it makes for better beer, just taste a Budweiser and then try Paulaner's Munich Lager.
It shouln't be a law for ales, because there are so many things you can do with those as far as style and taste.

about purity law: i was quoting too shortly in my other posting; what i meant was that the wording should be changed, because it actually is a little sarcastic, if you look at it like that... *ggg* i mean, that is monty python-like: the whole country is sorry for what happened but still prints "brewed after german purity law" on their beer bottles... *ggg* THAT is a real good laugh somehow... i never knew that we can be so black humored... *lol*
but nice info anyways from you!

idiots..........

The earliest swastika-like symbols preserved appear on pottery dated from around 4000 BC, as part of the "Vinca script". The Swastika symbol was also used as part of the Indus script from around 3000 BC, from which the later Hindu/Jain/Buddhist use of the symbol probably evolved. Pottery dating to ca. 2000 BC found at Sintashta is also decorated with the swastika symbol. Swastika-like symbols also appear in Bronze and Iron Age designs of the northern Caucasus (Koban culture), and Azerbayjan, as well as of Scythians and Sarmatians. In all these cultures, with the exception of South Asia, the swastika symbol does not appear to occupy any marked position or significance, but appears as just one form of a series of similar symbols of varying complexity.

In antiquity, the swastika was used extensively by Hittites, Celts and Greeks, among others. It occurs in other Asian, European, African and Native American cultures – sometimes as a geometrical motif, sometimes as a religious symbol. The swastika is the sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
