Marine Metalhead Plans To Take Over METALLICA's Spot

Cpl. Tom Sloan of Marines.mil has issued the following report: Patrolling the streets of the insurgent infested city here is probably the last place most people would expect to find a rock 'n' roll star. However, that's just where you'll find Lance Cpl. Josh R. Barfield ( photo), lead singer and guitarist for up-and-coming metal band BLUE COLLAR. The 23-year-old Glendora, Calif., native and assault man with 1st Platoon, A Company, may not have reached international recognition for his music yet, but he does have a number of fans in his unit, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. Many of his fellow grunts consider him to be a top-notch performer who's destined for rock-star fame. "He's got great music," said Sgt. Erik D. Sphoon, a 26-year-old Salem, Ore., native and guide for 1st Platoon, A Co. "It's on my favorite play list. His band is awesome. I like how he mixes metal with jazz." Barfield's band, BLUE COLLAR, which includes four other members, currently has a demo CD out. They've also played a gig in Newport Beach, Calif. "He has definitely got a future in music," said Sphoon. "If you were listening to his band and didn't know who it was, you'd swear it was a professional group. I'd be real surprised if someone didn't sign him on. Barfield, who's been deemed by some of his fellow Marines as a young James Hetfield, lead singer for METALLICA, plans to make it to the big time. Beating Metallica now as song writers is fucken easy just ask Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, and God Forbid but being an all time great in their prime I think Metallica owns everyone, so far.
This guy thinks he is so great I'd like to see him try to be better than any band first before he can beat the old-school tunes of Metallica. I'm still waiting for some tunes from this guy

A guy makes a tongue in cheek comment about Metallica and alot of you people get pissy. And word to the wise...Marines don't decide which wars they want to fight in when they sign up. Whether the war is deemed "pointless" or "meaningless" doesn't matter. They still have to go and fight it. If Dubya declared war on Bozo the fuckin' Clown's estate and cited weapons of mass hilarity as the reason (and I'm not so sure he wouldn't), then they would still have to go fight. So lay off the troops and blame the politicians who send them to these places.

Excellent point... very true. Most of us are here because we love our Country... and believe it or not, the majority of people I work with are not Bush supporters. I joined the Military before Bush became President, and after he was, I immediately thought twice about what I was doing. At that point though, it's too late to turn back because there are lots of legal issues you have to deal with. Basically, I was still in boot camp when he was elected, so I would have had to have been insane and shit myself in my sleep or something to get discharged. Even if that happened, I would have a hell of a time getting a job. As it stands now though, I love what I do. I'll be going through SEALS training within the next year if everything works out okay. I go back to my hometown every now and then and I see guys I graduated with still working in the same gas station they worked in their sophomore year.... and I've been to 15 different Countries, I've been shot at, I've shot back... etc... I've seen a lot of shit go down that a lot of poeple wouldn't know about unless they were there. I do not support this war in any way, shape, or form... but I do have my fingers crossed that we will get a better leader and the U.S. will be respected again.

is that the military is a great way to get your foot in the door of the music industry. Recruiters are having the hardest time in history convincing young people to sign up for slaughter.
This story is designed to make young folks believe that they can put their real goals/dreams/lives "on hold" and go off to military service and everything will be okay-their lives will be waiting for them when they return. Sadly, this is not the case.
I wouldn't be suprised if this guy (if he even really exists-can anybody say "Jeff Gannon") gets the deluxe propaganda treatment and Blue Collar winds up making a record before too long to re-inforce this story.
Our military has been intertwined with the entertainment business for longer than anyone wiil admit. That's why we have so many "pro military" movies, and so many new artists selling tons of CDs with their flag-waving propaganda "country" hits. it's a little thing called "brainwashing" and studies show that it works on about 80% of he population.
DO NOT BE FOOLED. This story is as phony as Jeff Gannon, 9-11,
or Bush's military service history.

Hows it going, I'm the guitarist for blue collar. I was just reading some of everyones harsh ass comments towards the band. Well let me tell you something. Just because our singer thinks what he said, doesn't mean we all do, and don't voice a fucking opinion when you haven't even heard our shit, fuck you for that, just to tell you we don't sound a thing like metallica. All you motherfuckers and your "opinions" are fake and you probably all a bunch of talentless people that don't play an instrument and think music is nothing but a bunch of A F G power chords done by blink 182.
