MANIC MUSIC To Make Cancer Research Donation In CHUCK SCHULDINER's Name
- Mar. 28, 2005
Manic Music & Distribution (Candlelight's U.S. promotion/sales partner) will make its first donation to the American Cancer Society in the name of late DEATH/CONTROL DENIED mainman Chuck Schuldiner. The donation is from proceeds generated by direct sales made during the first quarter of 2005 of Schuldiner's recently released unauthorized two-CD collection, "Zero Tolerance".
"We realize this record has many emotions tied to it (thus why it took us much time to consider the U.S. release)," Manic said in a statement. "This is surely a raw recording and one that, should Chuck still be with us, would never see release, as he was a perfectionist to his craft.
"Our final decision to make the recordings available was based on many of these recordings serving as Chuck's muse. And while they are surely not completed recordings, they are the best and closest fans will have into his final material.
"We wish to thank everyone that has so far dedicated review space to 'Zero Tolerance' and hope that our planned quarterly contributions will help in creating additional awareness for continued cancer research and treatments."

I had the opportunity in the early 90's. It was a good thing to see.

Had it cranked, what an awesome musician he was. One of the best in my book!
If anyone's read up on the "Zero Tolerance" records, which were just basically glorified demos, they'd know that the Schuldiner family were completely AGAINST their release. While it's a nice gesture to give money to cancer research, it's probably cold comfort for Mrs. Schuldiner and the rest of the family, and it doesn't change the fact that these releases were AGAINST THEIR WISHES. And I, for one, respect those wishes. Despite the bequest to Cancer Research, this is still a glorified cashgrab, and at best, reprehensible.
Despite their motives, the money is going to a damn good cause. Honestly, I give blood, and I donate what I can, when I can. If I get in a better position, I'll donate more. They're in the position, and even if it's for PR, they're donating to a cause that can save lives. So I can't find it in me to curse their name.

I've seen Death 4 times, also the last tour when their "popularity" was fading out. He played a small club, and even thoung his band mates truly sucked, he was still shining bright like the star that he is. Alone he "pulled the plug" on the audience. Leaving us speechless. Actually seeing him at a really small venue with like 200 people, standing right in front of him was really intense. He was a genious, a legend.....

that is all. I won't be buying 'Zero Tolerance', regardless. Chuck wouldn't have wanted me to hear it, so i'm not going to.
