ESQUIRE Magazine 'Makes A Joke' Out Of DIMEBAG's Murder: Page Scan Available

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Scott Whitt has sent in the following item: "I just bought the latest issue of Esquire, April 2005. The last page is an article 'This Way Out' by Brian Frazer. In it he makes a joke out of the murder of Dimebag. There is a pyramid of 'Recommended Daily of Vice.' On the top is a section 'Use Sparingly' and in it is 'Shooting ex-guitarists from PANTERA.' I think it is horrible for someone to make light of this tragic situation. We in the metal community should voice this. I sent an e-mail already and would hope everyone could do the same. There is not [an e-mail address] for the author, just esquire@hearst.com. ...how many members of the "metal community" would've chuckled insanely if it had been "skiing with Sonny Bono", "flying with John Denver" or "dieting with Karen Carpenter" instead? What was your first reaction to hearing S.O.D.'s "Ballad Of Jimi Hendrix"? It all boils down to "funny" being in the eye of the beholder. While Frazer's jest IS in extremely poor taste, neither Pantera or Damageplan are exactly known for going with the grain. I attended Chuck Billy's Clash Of The Titans a couple of years back and, during the S.O.D. set, it was all fun and games when the band did "...Hendrix", "...Freddy Mercury" and "...Michael Hutchence", however, Billy Milano was booed for suggesting they do "The Ballad Of Joey Ramone". Funny... or not? Parents/Religious groups/Whoever will never stop Phil Anselmo from blathering his incessant onstage rants and emails from "us" will never stop clueless journalistic assholes from saying hurtful things. Welcome to the other side of The First Amendment.

Was really a PATHETICALLY lame (albeit rather tasteless in the eyes of the metal community) attempt at humour than an attempt at outright shock. That said, it was still in pretty poor taste.

Good post. I can't believe there is a rational man around here. If anything the author is saying to shoot ex Pantera band guitarists SPARINGLY. Maybe he is a fan?
On the other end of the scale it's the sort of stuff that I'm guessing a good portion of metalheads imbibed/did/still doing? in their youth, or not so youth. It's a sendup folks. Yeah, he referenced Dimebag...but maybe it's not bad. Hell, the fact Dimebag made it into "mainstream (albeit shit) media" says a lot about his legacy.
For the record, I don't even think it's funny. Just kinda pathetic. Send an email if you want, rally the troops, but at least find out what the guy meant before castrating him.
This is the kinda stuff Priest went trough with the PMRC guys...only you're dishing it out.

If anyone out there would seriously care to find Brian Frazer, to personally let him know your feelings about his work (in a refined literary manner, of course), here are a few leads:
A simple Google search has turned up an equally dull-witted article on breakupgirl.net about picking up women in L.A. At the end of it, it reads:
"Brian Frazer has written for The Tom Green Show, David Letterman, and MadTV".
Then there's this limp, miserable junk I'd be willing to bet he wrote, located here:

fucking great! it's about time someone wrote something about it. He was a guitarist in a band that knowbody here knew. He might have been a great guy, personable etc.... but so was Joe Schmoe that is laying at your local coroner. He wasn't a serious national figure searching out peace, or a person who made a profound impact on the world, maybe your little worlds but not the world of reality.
Sorry but he doesn't deserve the pedastal you guys put him on.. he was just a guitarist in a band.. period.

I couldn't care less that he's dead... But the killer made one big mistake, he made a halfassed guitarist who didn't make the slightest difference to music what so ever, a legend...
He doesn't deserve that praise, his shitty band came at the worst time possible and contributed to the shitswamp of music which we all refer to as the 90's... Only 2 great bands came in the 90's, and those we're In Flames and Children Of Bodom... Both with much better guitarists than Dimebag could ever wish to be... This isn't even an opinion, it's a fact.
