MACHINE HEAD's FLYNN Apologizes To SLAYER's KING For His Role In Ongoing 'Feud' - Apr. 18, 2005
MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn has posted the following message in the band's official forum:

"Been listening to SLAYER's 'Seasons in the Abyss' a lot lately. [I] don't really know why I went back to it... it's kinda hard to listen to in some ways... but, Jesus?! That record is just amazing. Absolutely fucking classic from start to finish. 'Seasons in the Abyss' is just about the ultimate metal album. Riffs, melodies, structures, energy... FUCK! What an accomplishment!

"After that began, I ended up digging through a bunch of stuff in my garage that I had to move, and I stumbled upon a shitload of memorabilia from those first two tours they [SLAYER] took us on. Flyers, posters, laminates, pictures... and it kinda bummed me out.

"Actually, it really bummed me out.

"I know I’m not supposed to say things like that, 'cause, you know... people think you're 'weak' when you say shit like that. But, despite things, I try not to let it affect my enjoyment of the music they create, since that band has been — and always will be — such a huge part of my life.

"From growing up as a teenager playing their songs at backyard kegger parties in Fremont... to watching them give the best live performance I have ever witnessed at the Henry J. Kaiser Center in Oakland... to having seen SLAYER live more times than any other band (before we toured together)... to them giving us the opportunity to tour with them for 5 ½ months, on 5 different continents... SLAYER has helped this band more than any other band out there, period. Kerry King, in particular, played a pivotal role in making that happen. It is something I will forever be grateful for, even if we never are friends again.

"So with that said, I am issuing an apology to Kerry for the role I've played in our ongoing 'feud.' To be honest, I can't even remember why it started. With every barb we trade, I feel like I'm losing a part of my youth, and with it, a part of who I used to be, before MACHINE HEAD came into existence.

"It's one of the strange ironies of the music business... that it would turn one of your idols, into one of your enemies.

"It really is a shame... sometimes the 'business' side of the music business has a tendency to suck the enjoyment out of the very thing you become a part of the music business for: music.

"Fuck that, man.

Well, in my humble opinion, that would mean you shouldn't post stuff like this. Making you issue known to everyone would imply that your trying to gain recognition, thus turning it into a popularity contest. Is anybody else tired of Flynn's shit?

I think that it is great that he is apologizing... BUT, what the hell, this site needs to actually post things about music, not the people in music. I don't give a fuck if someone apologizes for being an asshole, or that Slash lost his tophat or Ozzy smoked from Sharons ass... eww. I want shit that is IMPORTANT. What albums or concerts are going on. Not that some band stopped their tourbus to pick up an Ice Cream.

Anything over the last year about the dangers of inter-band feuds, and the way the media jumps on them? I'm glad Rob has, and here's hoping the two of them can meet up, get loaded, relive the good ol' days and put this bullshit behind them.

And as much as I dig Kerry King's music, those wristbands are really, really, really, really, really, REALLY gay.

flynn can apologize all he wants, but kerry said it best, you can't just like a guy because he apologizes. media has a tendency to stuff people into two categories: like each other, hate each other, when it's not the simple. kerry simply doesn't give a fuck about flynn, and flynn keeps acting as if they used to be married or something. why the fuck? just get over it.

"It really is a shame... sometimes the 'business' side of the music business has a tendency to suck the enjoyment out of the very thing you become a part of the music business for: music."

If Kerry King passes it up, at least we know. But, what does this knowledge do for us? Will any of us choose to NOT buy the next Slayer album? Most likely not. Why? Slayer rules.

He's a retarded meat head, who's existence on this Earth is for sheer comedy value, from stating how much he hates Rick Rubin (when the guy made his career!!) to slagging off nu-metal when he contributed not only to the Judgement Night's soundtrack but also played guitar with the Beastie Boys. If only Nathan Gale had been a Slayer fan...

Take back the apology, Rob. Apologize to Lombardo, Hanneman and Araya but fuck King.

it's kinda ironic if you think about it. not even robb and kerry, but the role of both of these bands. MH and slayer are like 2 bands passing on a road. machine head just released a terrific album, and has had a successful tour. slayer keeps puttiing out the same album, and when i saw them at ozzfest, they really looked like they were done. and i know the lot of ya are waiting to jump down my throat, but i was a slayer fan too, but they were terrible at PNC bank arts center, day one. they were taking breaks after like every song, they were winded, tom araya sounded shitty, and after one of the breaks, they came on with to south of heaven, and it was being played through the P.A. system. it was really ugly.

I haven't posted here in over a year, because everyone else usually hits the nail on the head with thier comments. So, I wouldn't climb up on a soapbox in this electronic village if it hasnt been said already. It seems like the majority of these fueds come from California bands. There is so much copetition out there, that everyone takes themselves very serioiusly. Shit you couldnt throw a beer can out your front window in the bay area without beaning some dude from a metal band. Bands are everywhere looking for thier chance to be heard. I think that speaks volumes for both Flynn and KK. They both clawed their way to the top. Flynn wants to squash the whole thing, good for him. I hope it all works out. If you agree or want to put me in my place, let me know. I like to hear from people either way.

I thought the whole 'fued' between these two started when KK called Flynn out for hopping on the rap-core, nu-metal bandwagon. Which I would have to say is pretty accurate.

Yes, MH jumped on the rap-metal bandwagon and yes, Kerry is an asshole. But that doesn't change the fact that:

1 - Slayer fucking rules
2 - Machine Head's new CD "Ashes..." is as good, if not better than "Burn My Eyes"...it's just as brutal but more diverse.

The media likes to keep these 'band feud's' going so they'll have something to write about besides MUSIC. They couldn't get enough of the Pantera feud... And look at the results. No Dime. No Pantera reunion. Fuck the media.

I respect Rob for being man enough to try and squash this bullshit. What is this, 'metal pre-school hour'? "I don't like your band, because you sounded like this on that album." Cry about it KK.
